Dr. Leara and his entire staff are wonderful! They're very warm, friendly and supportive- and provide excellent quality care for our 3 precious doggies. Dr. Leara is exceptionally knowledgeable, well experienced, gentle with our doggies; and also open minded about holistic care for them . He and his vet technicians are also patient and great with our doggies . The clinic in Kaimuki is clean and a good location for us - with parking lot in front their building . Thank you Dr. Leara & staff !

Please be careful. We took our Pregnant French Bulldog to the Animal Clinic of Honolulu for an Ultrasound on Thursday 7 March to confirm the age of the babies so we could schedule a C section for the delivery. On the day of our Ultrasound our pet experienced a discharge from her vagina. We brought the evidence of the discharge to the vet for examination during the ultrasound. The vet informed us that this was normal and nothing to be concerned about. The ultrasound was performed and the vet informed us they estimated the babies to be 58 days old and that the C Section should be scheduled for Monday so that the babies were carried to term (60 days) before delivery. The vet advised us to take our pets temperature and that anything under 100 degrees was a symptom of labor and she should be brought in for the c section. I asked, can we just schedule the C Section for tomorrow morning (Friday). The vet said no, the heart beats are a little weak and its best to carry them to term. We took the advice of the Vet at face value, proceeded to bring our pet home prepared to stand vigil over her throughout the weekend anticipating a Monday delivery of the babies. On Friday, we took the Mom's temperature no fewer than 8 times. Each time her registered temperature was over 100. About 6 PM we noticed she was repeatedly pushing. She didn't experience any other obvious signs of labor. Sure enough, on visual inspection, we could see a Paw in her birth canal. We rushed her to the nearest Emergency Vet. An Ultrasound was preformed and no heartbeats could be detected. Further, our pet was in extreme stress and suffering. Our three year old Frenchie left this world on Friday night. We are heartbroken and have to wonder why when presented with the symptoms on Thursday the vet consistently counseled us to wait until Monday... we will question this decision for a long time.

Please do not take your pet here. Our dog died through their consistent negligence and misdiagnosis. We are beyond crushed. We have gone ahead and gotten another dog and of course started with a different vet and the difference in professionalism, thoroughness and care is just beyond. When we took our dying dog to emergency veterinarian services they said the first thing they would have done at the symptoms we reported again and again was test for x,y,z... none of this had been done despite our consistently asking. If you love your pet, go elsewhere. Nothing can make up for what we went through.

We have been taking our dogs to the Animal Clinic for almost 15 years. We have moved locations with them, seen multiple vets and vet techs, and everyone from the reception staff on are always so friendly and professional, and just really great with the animals. We even went through cancer treatments to help our dog symptoms and they made the very difficult process about as easy as possible for us and for our pet. Thank you for your kindness and caring during that incredibly difficult and stressful time.

I've taken my dogs to this clinic for a couple of years. In the past 3 years I've taken them in for annual check ups, it's been nothing but horrible experiences. I am always waiting an hour + after they tell me that my dogs are ready for pick up. When I ask the staff when they will be ready, it's hit or miss. Some are nice, while others give nothing but attitude. When they finally come out, it's another wait to get their flee/tick meds. I would think twice before bringing your pets here.

Yesterday was the the second time this year that this vet office stepped up to take a cat for Youth In Asia with just a phone call. The first one was a feral cat that had been hit by a car. No vet wants anything to do with that !!! Yesterday was my beloved cat of like 14 years. I think she had a stroke and went blind. It was horrible and she was in distress. In any event, the vet that I normally go to was all booked up. Who needs a vet like that ???? Not me. Arms of Aloha which we have used for 2 dogs could not come till the next day ( today ) at 1:00 .... I think what people should be looking for is compassion for the animal. That is what makes a vet a good vet. This is the only clinic that seems to embrace that.

My first visit as a new client here was wonderful, however the second visit was absolutely terrible! Rude office manager (Amelia), disorganized, and three hour wait time. I rescued a 6 month old puppy that was malnourished and pretty beat up, so naturally she is skiddish. My second visit here was set up two weeks prior to my appointment and I confirmed over both email and text days before. They waited until just 45 minutes before my appointment to call me and say we were unable to see the same Vet as last time AND I wasn't allowed to go in with my puppy for the appointment. When I asked why I was just now being informed about this and why I wasn't allowed to go in with her Amelia, the Office Manager, was extremely unsympathetic and rude with her response of "I would expect you to understand given the day in age the world is in right now." Not only that, but my puppy would be seeing a Vet who I don't even see listed on their website. When I arrived.. I guess the Office MANAGER couldn't even communicate to the assistant coming and getting my puppy from the car that she had even spoken to me. The assistant was so kind and admitted even they were confused about the status of this appointment. And to top it off, they had my puppy for over THREE HOURS. They kept telling me that the doctor was with other clients and would be seeing her soon and giving me a call. Three hours later I finally get a call from the doctor saying what they did without any apology for the wait, miscommunication, etc. If you want to spend your limited off time dealing with the most confusing and disorganized animal clinic with rude office managers, than this is your place. But considering there a ton of animal clinics all over the island, I think it's worth the drive to go somewhere that actually cares about their clients.

We used the Animal Clinic of Honolulu for five years for our dog. The doctors are great and super friendly. Although I was happy with their service and I felt they had my dog's best interests in mind, it seemed he always needed a vaccine or a check up or a fecal test. The worst policy is they don't have a half day charge for boarding. I picked up my dog at 8am and I was charged for the whole day! They had just opened, hadn't fed him or anything and I was charged $50. I always felt like I was getting nickeled and dimed. The receptionist answering the phone always had to tell me he needed another shot or another check up to get his heart worm or flea and tick meds. They are conveniently located and run a clean office. They're good people and I always felt my dog was safe with them but they always wanted more money. I would recommend their service but caveat their business policies.

Covid curbside pickup has definitely impacted my experiences with most places, including at the vet, and has turned routine vet appointments into what feels like all-afternoon affairs, especially when there's a scheduling mishap (and it's implied you were in the wrong). I'm just glad I live close enough that I can go home, rather than having to sit in a hot car for an hour. Then after talking with the vet tech (who was very nice! unfortunately I cannot remember her name) it turns out that you CAN go inside if you have an appointment, information which isn't anywhere on their app.

Returned our puppy with a bloody clipped nail and when it was brought to their attention staff indicated it probably happened in the parking lot because of the rough pavement. Also said this tight clip happens from time to time which is an unacceptable remark for offering this service. Our puppy then came home and barfed twice after returning from the vet - that visit seemed to be very stressful for her.

Been coming here for years, Dr. leara is the best. You can tell he really cares about my cats, and doesn't over charges in the process of treating them. Even the staff is amazing, personal shout outs to Amelia and Hannah for being so damn good at their jobs. We drive here from Waipahu to give you an idea of how amazing we think they are. Willing to risk that traffic after heading west, just so our cats have the very best care! I wish I could give them more than five stars, so I try to remember to bring Malasadas when we can :-)

My husband took our cat Max in for an ear infection and now he is gone. Dr O called to say they would install drains for the ear infections, then they called to say his lungs have fluid and he needed to be in an emergency room which they did not have. To add insult to injury they made my husband pay the bill before they released Max so he could get him to an emergency room. The emergency room Dr said there wasn't anything they could do. Max would have been here tonight if we just hadn't taken him in to Animal Clinic.

Vet care was good, but customer service is terrible. Numerous times they have told me my dog was ready and would be coming right out, only to leave me waiting in the parking lot for 20 to 30 minutes. This has happened to me personally at 4 times and have been told by other customers it's a normal thing. They have zero respect for their customers time. They blatantly lie about the length of time things take. When you complain they are rude and never apologize. There are numerous other vets nearby, who I'm sure offer similar vet services but actually care about their customers and don't blatantly lie to them.
