Rainbow State Paint is a long drive for us, but it is worth the trip because they have people like Dan there that know and have actually used their products. Dan spent a good bit of time with me on the phone to be sure we got the right product for our job. Try calling the Home Depot paint folks to see if one primer will sand better than another, or is actually in stock...We drive past 3 Sherwin Williams stores to get to RSP.Last visit, I learned that RSP keeps files on every order you've ever placed including an actual paint sample of what you bought. Dan pulled our file from 5 years ago just to be sure we got the same tint, then he tinted our primer to improve cover by the topcoat, showed us (all 4) color matches, and boxed up our order for the long drive back.Exceptional service.Also, BM "Advance" trim paint lays out as slick as anything I've ever seen.Aloha

I went to Rainbow State Paints in November of 2022 to get a gallon of paint to touch up my livingroom walls. The store is now located in the Kaahumanu area of Pearl City - where Safeway and City Mill and Starbucks are located. I brought with me pictures of the labels afixed to the outside of the old can - with that they can mix the exact same paint color. There was an older woman working counter that was incredibly sharp and knew exactly what she was doing - very impressive! 10 minutes later - my order was ready! Look for them - right next door to City Mill!

Prices were mostly typical island expensive, but there were some legitimate good deals, with many better priced items than Lowes or HD. Paint staff was helpful and friendly.

My homeowner's manual noted Benjamin Moore paint as the brand we need to get in order to "paint match" the walls in my apartment. I stopped by Rainbow State Paint to get the brand and color listed, but it turns out that PPG Paints is actually the original mixers of the paint on the walls (which is where I ended up after I found out). However, in my venture, I fortunately only spent a small amount on a quart of paint that is not of use to me since it didn't match perfectly. Hopefully there will be things we can use it on in the future. The reason I'm giving this place a 5 star review, however, was less around the color match (since that was a homeowner's manual issue) but because of my interaction with Lenny and the team. I ordered some Scuff-X paint based on a recommendation from Lenny after explaining my situation of easily scuffed walls at my place. A friend had also recommended repainting which I thought to be an exhausting effort, but with all the remodeling I had to do thus far, painting a wall would probably be the easiest piece to take on at this point. Paint that is ordered comes in about a little over two weeks time. I have the Scuff-X paint in my possession and the team always throws in a new paint key and mixing stick which I really appreciated since the last one I got with the other can was misplaced. The gallon can was also reasonable in price compared to some other places you might go that have it readily available. Lenny also gave me tips on how to prep and paint which I found helpful and I'm excited to get at it this week. Regardless of how it turns out at this point, the service and expertise of this crew is kind of just phenomenal and I really appreciate the help I got. I would recommend hitting this place up whether you have a project in mind, repainting a room, or home. They got some great people working here.

Getting ready to give our home a fresh coat of paint. It's been long overdue, but that's life right?! Something always comes up unexpectedly and you push things off until later. We have been going to Rainbow State Paint for years! We just found out that not only did they move their location to Aiea, but they also were purchased by City Mill (a long-time locally owned family business). Still carrying all the Benjamin Moore paints that we have come to trust for the durability. You pay a little more, but you get what you pay for. Hopefully the paint job will last for many, many more years! Probably the kids will be taking care of the next paint job in the future. The staff has been there for years and are very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The store has everything you need for all your painting needs.

Just made a special trip all the way to this store based upon the prior reviews and brought all my renovation samples with me. I asked if someone could assist me with making a few selections so that I could pick up some samples. The representative at the front repeated several times that they were in the process of moving, and they don't help people choose anything anyway. She then plopped several paint chip books in front of me. I was very disappointed with the service and told her I'll go somewhere else.

I purchased Benjamin Moore paints for the entire interior and exterior of my house. Leni was super helpful with selecting the right paints and sheens. They've logged everything in their system so I have of record in the future. Thanks Rainbow State!

Over the TOP service! Called and spoke with Matt on Friday, went in on Saturday morning... he'd remembered my questions from the day before, and had the 'swatch' card ready for us to view and then took us step by step to ensure that we got the right finish, etc. The other rep. was also so courteous with ringing up our purchase, and sending us off with all the extras from the paint can opening tool to the wooden paint stir stick, and overall, the exceptional service! This has nothing to do with their prices but customer service. We are redoing our home and don't know anything about paint. The owners (husband and wife) were so kind and took the time to explain to me everything . It didn't feel like a sales pitch and there was never any pressure to buy.If nothing else, I trust them and that goes a long way now days.
