The store is well-kept and the shelves are usually full. They offer rain checks for items that are out of stock when they are on sale which is awesome. Catchy music in the background making it fun while you shop . The managers know what they are talking about and are very helpful. Customer service could use a little bit of help though. The cashiers are friendly and usually knowledgeable about the sales and how to use the app. They deserve a lot more praise than given. Some people can be so cruel to them. Especially on $5 Fridays. If you want to make a big deal about bagging your own groceries, or not using the app correctly, they have a self checkout line and customer service.

I like this Safeway for the convenience of being open 24/7 and they are always fully stocked! Not crazy busy compared to the ones in town. Plenty of easy parking. Usually come by on Fridays for their extra $5 Friday deals. Download the Safeway App for extra discounts/deals too. I've found a variety of meats, produce, and snacks at a decent price. Cashiers are usually pretty nice and helpful too.

I have ordered a few times with both the Foodland and Safeway apps. Frankly, the Safeway app was a little confusing and I decided I would stick with Foodland. My wife started the order on the Safeway app and I was too lazy to delete and re-order from Foodland. There was a problem with your app so I called your store and ended up talking to Tyler. He walked me through what I needed to know and it turns out the problem with your app was a picnic problem. (If you do not know what a "picnic computer problem" is, Google it). Tyler told me hang on he would look over my order while he had me on the phone. He came back on the phone and asked me why I don't like money. "Huh? I like money." "Well these are on sale if you order instead of what you ordered." He saved me almost $6. Just to be clear, your employee cost Safeway $6. If he kept his mouth shut Safeway had an extra $6 at the end of the day. Tyler then walked me through how to notify Safeway that I was on my way to pick up my order and how to let them know I arrived. When I pulled in Tyler was already waiting for me with my groceries. He was polite, professional and I was in and out of there in under 90 seconds. Literally I was in and out in less than 2 minutes. So Tyler trained me on the app, cost your company $6 and got me in and out in 90 seconds. I deleted the Foodland app when I got home. See you next week.

What is going on? Shelves are in disarray! Produce is out of Romain lettuce, Alfalfa sprouts and more....anything left is all picked thru! Refrigerator areas full of condensation and also missing many items! Lots of shelves empty in Soda area and other aisles also. Only 2 Cashiers open at 6 pm on a weekday??) Store is not in good shape? What's going on?

This is the Safeway in Hawaii Kai. The store was ok. You can tell that it's not one of their newer stores. I was here the day before Christmas and they were out of a lot of items. The cheese section was depleted and the cereal that I was looking for was gone. I asked the stock guy and he told me that he brought out the last two boxes from the back earlier and someone bought them. I do love that they have a sit down area sectioned off for the Starbucks in the store. In town, they only have the kiosk for Starbucks. The sit down area is on the outside. I saw a lot of people converging in the center of the store. It turns out that all the Christmas candy was 90% off. That's right, 90% off. The Hershey's bags that are usually $5-$6 a bag was less than a dollar. I got seven bags for around $5. It was definitely the best deal in the whole store. They have a branch of the Hawaii State FCU in this place if you're a member.

Store manager Dane is hard working, personable and friendly. Been here many times. Good layout of Store, easy to find items. Came here for $5 poke bowls, deli ham off the bone $5#, Maui chips 2/$5. Normally go to Costco in the shopping center next door, Hawai'i Kai. There are 6 self service check outs, which is very convenient. Parking lot is Normally busy. CVS, McDonald's, Bale, Texas 808 are in same shopping center

I was shopping in the Hawaii Kai store to check out the Sale items! There are so many good deals! We're having Turkey for Christmas Eve and Prime Rib for Christmas dinner. Here's my list to buy: 1. Yams $1.99 lb 2. Celery $1.99 lb 3. Russet Potatoes: $5.99/5lbs 4. Pillsbury Buttermilk bisquits. The BEST deal is the USDA Choice Beef Ribeye Roast Bone-In. $7.97/lb. It was only Wednesday and didn't need the Roast until Christmas day. Will there be any left? Should i buy it now even though i have no room in my refrigerator? Wow, they have so many sizes all ready to go! While i was contemplating on what to do? This kind and patient Safeway worker asked if he could help me? Joey is so nice, friendly and personable! I asked if i could order my roast even though it was on sale? He is so terrific as he pointed to the order sheet! He even helped me fill it out as my husband wanted a 6 pound roast. He patiently explained to me that i would have 2 bones which is perfect since my husband loves the bones! Joey took the time to help me and i think he was ending his shift! What Awesome Customer Service! Kudos to Joey. I hope Safeway recognizes Joey for his hard work and Excellent Customer Service!

Difference in good service ... a male clerk wouldn't take the time to help with the digital coupon vs a female clerk would! Why the extra step for a digital coupon anyway if you have to be a club member?

When I need flowers, this is my go to! James is always so helpful, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure the customers are satisfied. It was my friends birthday and I needed balloons and other things, James was very helpful with cutting the flowers and making the balloons supper special. It's nice to see the workers actually provide excellent customer service consistently!!

The key words are..$5 Fridays. I think this is the probably the busiest day of the week. The lines to order hot fried chicken is pretty worth it. For this Safeway I feel the deli and hot bar is the draw. I have ordered their $10 lunch combo plate and that is totally worth it..chicken tenders loaded with sides like Mac and cheese and jojo fries. So yummy!!! In the day the parking on Fridays is super tight with many seniors in the early morning hours. It's nice there's a Starbucks located within so you can grab a drink while doing your early morning shopping. Safeway employees are friendly and it's family like as they assist with using the app for discounts. Store is bright and clean. The biggest complaint I do have is the annoying app and how to get additional discounts you need to scan a member code on the app. The code does not always work and so it's better to self service scan. The check out person Lance is super helpful.

I always shop at Safeway, I'm probably there at least 3 times a week. For the most part I'm very satisfied with prices and the products that they offer. My complaint is with some of the cashiers. Like others have mentioned some of them act as if you are inconveniencing them, with straight faces and poor attitudes. It makes me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. I always try to avoid them if I can and look for the cashiers that are always pleasant and helpful. But sometimes you have no choice and have to go to them. Just recently I had a cashier named Jill She didn't say anything and a very unhappy look on her face. I had my own bags so I helped bag one of my bags and she did the other. Most cashiers try to look at your items and place them in the bag carefully. I have NEVER repacked a bag that they had done. But I saw how she rushed and carelessly put my items in the bag and left a few things out for me to do. The bag wasn't full and they were small items so it wasn't because she thought that I didn't want them bagged like toilet paper or a large box of soda. I think she felt like she had "helped" enough. I looked in the bag and saw that the oysters that I bought that were in a styrofoam tray and wrapped with plastic wrap had ripped and now there was a large hole in it and it was sideways. So I took a few things out and tried to place them in the bag where the oysters wouldn't spill onto the rest of my groceries or in the bag. There was an another customer behind me waiting to be rung so I didn't say anything and tried to hurry. The cashier saw me and said " oh sorry.." I just said "oh, it's okay" and didn't complain about the way she pretty much just threw my things in with no care or explained why I did it. I just tried to rearrange it quickly and be on my way. As soon as I started to leave I heard her and the man behind me start laughing and shaking their head. Like they were saying "some people.. ". That was so rude and unprofessional!! I wanted to go back and let them know why I had to rearrange some of my items. But it wasn't worth it.. That was such a bad experience and made me feel so uncomfortable and upset. That's not the way you should make your customers feel.

Kudos to Safeway management. Recently returned to Safeway and was pleasantly surprised by the staff. All seemed much nicer and happier. Whatever they did to make their staff happy seems to be working. Keep it up!

Just ordered a couple sandwiches from the deli and I just wanted to say that this young man named Josh was fantastic. He was very personable and social and made the best sandwiches for everybody and everyone was so happy anyways, just an absolutely great guy all around he definitely deserves a major promotion!! Honestly he's too good to be making sandwiches at Safeway. He should be a waiter at it. Really nice fine dining restaurant lol anyways thanks Josh 1 million for everything it's sad that it's hard to come by people like you anymore especially at Safeway's deli making sandwiches they're usually grumpy lol Josh, Josh, Josh. Yay for Josh!!

I often shop in the evening because it's so much less crowded but the shelves are often empty especially in the milk section. I usually have to find someone to check if they have more stock in the back which most of the time they do. Tonight they had a really good sale on organic milk but they were out of the whole milk. I couldn't find anyone to help me so I went to the produce section and asked the person there and he said he couldn't help because he worked in the produce section. I took a different milk and proceeded to the cashier. This cashier always seems like I'm inconveniencing her when I come up to her station. There were no other customers in line. I asked her if someone could help me so she called someone to come out. He checked in the back and the milk was out of stock. I went back to the cashier and asked for a rain check. She told me she couldn't give me one because she would have to see the product. I asked if I could go back and take a picture of the sign so she could write a rain check, and she said no, she would have to see the product. We stood there for a minute. Then she said the guy that helped me would have to write up the rain check. She then asked if I wanted to ring up my groceries, and I responded that yes, I want to ring up my groceries, but I also want the rain check. She rang up the groceries and called the guy back out. He came out and looked up the product on his phone and said the sale is on for another 10 days so do I really need the rain check? I said no and I left. I don't understand the big deal about a rain check. The cashiers at Longs do it all the time when they run out of sale stock. The whole experience left me frustrated. The store was empty but I felt I was really inconveniencing them. There are friendly cashiers and staff who are helpful but obviously not all. And they need to keep the shelves better stocked generally. Unfortunately they are the only grocery store in Hawaii Kai.
