Just a reminder, a four star review for me is not a bad thing. Four star reviews are typically better than most average comparable businesses in this category.
With that said, the Safeway is probably the main grocery store in Hawaii Kai. The only other comparable store is Costco, but you need a membership. Plus, at the latter you have to buy in bulk.
The Safeway has a pretty wall stocked deli section and isn't as crazy busy on five dollar Fridays compared to some of the other locations. They also have a good meat/seafood section and a hot bar.
Typically, we will just stop in here for groceries. Their prices are pretty reasonable, especially if you download the app. So keep that in mind before your next visit.
The location isn't rundown or dingy and has a pleasantly cool air-conditioning system. The staff here are nice and helpful if you ever need them.
As far as parking goes, there's a ton of Apple parking in the free parking lot. Yes, there are a ton of restaurants and other establishments nearby that might cause some congestion. However, this year amount of stalls ensures that you'll probably find something without circling for too long.
One thing to note is that this location does not have a pharmacy unlike some of the other locations. So if you're looking to get a prescription filled, you should probably head next-door to Longs.

We had gone to Costco to buy supplies for our week in Waikiki, and realized we needed additional supplies they did not carry. We asked a local and they said Safeway was close and would have everything we needed. They were right! It was feasibly priced, well laid out, had friendly and helpful employees, and we were able to find everything we needed.

Prices are fairly good for the amount, store has many food options (you'll find cooked & warm food 🍗, cold food like sushi and several cake options, and canned food). We even decided to have dinner from here to pack and enjoy at our resort.

Good store, but the prices of some items are unreasonable. Example limes for $2 each.

Customer service needs a lot of improvement in the bakery department. I was standing at the bakery looking to buy a cake. I saw a young man working behind the counter and decided to wait until he could come help me. He went about his business without saying a word to me as he was walking by I decided to ask him if he was available and he completely ignored me and kept walking. Then he almost immediately came back and looked at me without saying a word. I was a little confused thinking he might not be well. I asked him about the cakes and his answers were short and without any more detail. I noticed he started tapping his fingers. I decided to grab the cake anyway while I was being given the opportunity.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time that I am ignored when I had the need to ask a question at the bakery. I believe the employees need training. In the meantime, I will be driving a little extra to Whole Foods.

The store is well-kept and the shelves are usually full. They offer rain checks for items that are out of stock when they are on sale which is awesome. Catchy music in the background making it fun while you shop . The managers know what they are talking about and are very helpful. Customer service could use a little bit of help though. The cashiers are friendly and usually knowledgeable about the sales and how to use the app. They deserve a lot more praise than given. Some people can be so cruel to them. Especially on $5 Fridays. If you want to make a big deal about bagging your own groceries, or not using the app correctly, they have a self checkout line and customer service.

I like this Safeway for the convenience of being open 24/7 and they are always fully stocked! Not crazy busy compared to the ones in town. Plenty of easy parking. Usually come by on Fridays for their extra $5 Friday deals. Download the Safeway App for extra discounts/deals too. I've found a variety of meats, produce, and snacks at a decent price. Cashiers are usually pretty nice and helpful too.

I have ordered a few times with both the Foodland and Safeway apps. Frankly, the Safeway app was a little confusing and I decided I would stick with Foodland. My wife started the order on the Safeway app and I was too lazy to delete and re-order from Foodland. There was a problem with your app so I called your store and ended up talking to Tyler. He walked me through what I needed to know and it turns out the problem with your app was a picnic problem. (If you do not know what a "picnic computer problem" is, Google it). Tyler told me hang on he would look over my order while he had me on the phone. He came back on the phone and asked me why I don't like money. "Huh? I like money." "Well these are on sale if you order instead of what you ordered." He saved me almost $6. Just to be clear, your employee cost Safeway $6. If he kept his mouth shut Safeway had an extra $6 at the end of the day. Tyler then walked me through how to notify Safeway that I was on my way to pick up my order and how to let them know I arrived. When I pulled in Tyler was already waiting for me with my groceries. He was polite, professional and I was in and out of there in under 90 seconds. Literally I was in and out in less than 2 minutes. So Tyler trained me on the app, cost your company $6 and got me in and out in 90 seconds. I deleted the Foodland app when I got home. See you next week.
