Toys r Us in Hawaii is set to close in May 2018. What does that mean? Liquidation sales!!! Now it is sad to see this once mighty retailer close their doors, but their discounts are less to be desired. 5-10% off majority of the store and I couldn't find anything for 30% off (despite the sign stating the entire store is up 30% off. Now ironically the small discounts almost makes toys r us the same price as their competitors, now I said almost take another 20% off and you will get there. True the prices may go lower as we near May, but everything will probably gone by then. Now some information about this store in particular. Well they took over the old Aeropostale location. But I think they were a bit lazy to become open, they kept the lighting and even left up the model pictures on the wall. You can even see the old cash register desk and the dressing rooms in the back. So anyways, bye Toys R Us. You will be missed, but only for the nostalgia and not your prices.

Had such a pleasant experience today that I needed to make a review. This was the first time in years since I set foot in a Toys R Us, and I'm so glad it was a positive experience. Came in for the Pikachu Christmas ornament promotion. Before heading down I called the store to see if they were participating in the promotion. Dillon (I believe was his name?) was great to talk to. Went to the store a few hours later and had to ask my cashier about the promotion again. She was nice! But Dillon happened to be next to her and provided excellent customer service that went above and beyond. Dillon, if you're reading this, thank you SO much, you really made my day. I'll definitely have to go back to that location for any toy/gift needs.

We come to the mall a lot and every time my daughter asks to go to Toys R Us. It's a good size toy store (not as big as the pearl city one) and they have a good selection of toys. Their prices are a little high but what's nice is they will price match their website as well as some other stores such as target, amazon, etc. However, when we stopped by today I overheard one of the workers (a younger local girl) telling a customer that she couldn't price match amazon prime prices because it's a subscription, which really surprised me because I have never had problems getting a price match with amazon prices. The customer even asked the worker if she was sure that's how it works and the girls told her that she knew what she was talking about and had been working there for a long time. My first thought was "this is really bad customer service" and then when I got home I was thinking about it again and wondering if amazon prices are different for prime vs non-prime members. Since I don't have prime (but my mom does so I usually order through her account) I went into my account and tried putting something in my shopping cart and found that the price of the item was the same as prime members but I have to spend at least $25 to get free shipping, whereas prime members get free shipping. So yeah, I'm not really sure what that worker was talking about... but if you happen to go here don't let her tell you they don't price match prime prices!!

This location is smaller than others, but they really maximize their space and jam pack it full of toys. Was on a mission to find some Vegimals from the Octonauts cartoon on Disney. They are only manufactured by Fisher-Price and available at Toys R Us or online. Sooo happy to have found a small collection available at this store, purchased it for the kids immediately. Didn't realize that they do online price matching?!? Only after the sales associate at another location said they do. Oh well, it was only a savings of $1.00 or less.

I was at Ala Moana on the specific mission to bring home a birthday present for my youngest, she was turning 3. I had been to Barnes and Noble earlier and picked up a few things, a coloring book and a Moana sticker book. Okay, good - but I need one nice, big thing. Ok, Toys R Us, off we go! I get to Toys R Us and I immediately become sad at all the plastic boxed toys and the not-quite-joyful feeling of walking through the store. Nothing here is working for me. There just does not seem to be anything special here, nothing stands out. I remember being at the same store in Japan and the products were more numerous and varied. I quickly exited and remembered the Disney store upstairs.... I'll review my much better experience there soon.

Express-a-ton~ Of course, the biggest outside mall in the US has a Toy's R Us Express. It is a smaller version of their usually gigantic store tucked away in the top upstairs floor. All I was looking for was dinosaurs of any kind. I was happy to find a few options. The first was a tiny action figure sized dinosaur that was under $5 towards the middle section of the store. The other ones were towards the back right where they had a few gigantic Jurassic Park real action figures that roared and spewed noises up the wazoo. Then if you ventured a little bit further from that area you would find yourself crossing over a cage that held giant dinosaurs that were huge! They were as big as your arm! I almost got them but I ended up getting the medium sized dinosaurs in the middle of the store to welcome my nephew when he came in town to visit me in Waikiki.

Express location in Ala Moana Shopping Center. Nice having a another option for toys and kid things in the mall. Fairly good variety of items considering it's an Express store. Friendly staff. Prices are on par for a brick and mortar store in the mall.

I was on my way to Claires when I passed by Toys R Us. I was actually super surprised to find them here, so of course the kid in me had to walk in. There were a couple of female workers but no one greeted me when I came in. But I guess I'll let that go since sometimes I'm apparently unapproachable. They're located on the 3rd floor. If you're facing the center stage Toys R Us is on the 3rd level on right wing of the mall. The store is small, tidy and there's some cool stuff here. The prices were alright but if I remember correctly, Toys R Us was always a bit pricey anyways.

I'm so happy there's a new (hopefully) permanent Toys R Us Express in Ala Moana. I thought I was lucky to have LEGO and Disney Stores so close, but am also happy to have a general selection toy store. Located on the top level near the main escalators and elevator, it's easy to find and get to. The store is clean, new, and well lit. All the staff I've interacted with so far were friendly and seemed happy to be working there. Selection is about what one can expect from a mall small toy store, but it has potential. My only issue is Toys R Us generally high prices coupled with Ala Moana's premium and Hawaii on top of that- everything is very expensive for what you're buying. But sometimes to the collector or youngling, it's worth the few extra bucks.

So one day I was walking by around Ala Moana specifically on the 2nd floor level area on the I guess west wing of the shopping center and all of a sudden... NOSTALGIA! Seeing a Toy's R Us Express reminded me of KB Toys and stuff and I remember it being at Ala Moana long long time ago. Anyways, it's cool to see another toy store at Ala Moana one with this time having a broad range of toys from the marvel superhero and pro-wrestling action figures to the barbie dol collection that they have. The store itself is not that big but they can it an "express" for a reason. The prices for everything is decent. The staff and customer service is ok, we weren't greeted or anything but I guess that is trumped by the excitement of just being in the store and looking at toys and feeling like a kid (again). The display and layout is just like what they had a long time ago.

Went around 8:45pm one night. Quickly got what my child was looking for and went to cash register. No one was at register so I had to walk around the store to find a staff to ring me up. The price rang up was higher than sticker price. I informed staff and he quickly made the change. Nice to have a location at Ala Moana Center. Limited selection compared to main Pearl Ridge store but its the convienence that is nice.

Toys! Great toys. Toys that are way better than when I was a kid!!! Wow. Picking up toys for tomorrow's yelp hooplah!! =] Continuing to the review, this place doesn't quite fill that hole that KB toys left when it packed up and disappeared but it has quite a substantial amount of toys.

I love the fact that there's a store filled with nothing but old school toys and candy for the holiday season. You can practically walk around and find a gift/toy for both girls and boys for all ages. From Angry Birds to Legos to Dolls to Boats...you will definitely find something for your loved ones and kids in this huge store....for toys...I think it's a pretty decent sized store. Some of the toys will bring you back to your childhood and that's what I think it's awesome. Prices are decent and the staff are nice and helpful. There's even Christmas wrapping for purchase if you forgot/need it. This is a store that I'll come back to for convenience and selection...especially since you won't have to fight for parking and you can do ALL your shopping at this mall without running around for kids toys.

This store just opened. They are right next to White House Black Market or across Ann Taylor.
