Cancelled insurance policy over a month in advance before coverage even began. No update. No refund. Sent out a complaint to BBB.

Pure greed! They jacked up hurricane insurance. It literally cost as much as my home insurance, absolutely makes no sense. Luckily I found an insurer that was 3-4 times less. What's even more unacceptable is the fact that Zephyr took so long to process my cancellation and refund etc.

I am a current customer and have been trying to call Zephyr to get another quote. Apparently they don't answer calls. Can you imagine if there was a real catastrophe and what it's like trying to find someone?

Our hurricane insurance policy renews early next month (February 2024.) Of course, we received our policy renewal invoice in the mail, on time just like we have over the last several years. However, this time our policy premium increased almost 75%!
We've heard of premiums increasing 20%, 25% - even 50%. But 75% is a HUGE increase without explanation or ever having filed a claim. This type of increase is like the ones we've seen on the news in Florida!
We understand inflation and that replacement costs are going up - we get that. Zephyr's exposure is enhanced with potentially higher paid claims.
In an effort to understand the premium increase, we tried to contact Zephyr via email (4 attempts - no reply) and via phone (too many calls with no answer.) Perhaps, like many other businesses, they are short staffed or too busy? Not sure. What I do know is, from a customer's perspective (soon to be former customer - yes!), it seems like they just do not care.
If you peruse their Yelp and Google reviews, you will notice they have not replied or commented to any of their 20 customer reviews since July 2015! And the company representative that posted back then is now the President/CEO of Zephyr Insurance. Translation: Zero reputation management - they don't care about their customers.
To be clear, this review is not a complaint about their customer service because we did not receive ANY service.
In the end, the following was our quagmire vis-a-vis Zephyr Insurance: If we cannot engage them via email or telephone with questions regarding our policy NOW, how can we engage them when we really need them during a potential claim in the future? The clear and simple answer to this question is why we changed hurricane insurance providers. We implore you to do the same.
There are at least 10+ other hurricane insurance providers here in the Hawaii market. Do your own due diligence and make a decision that is right for you and your family. Good luck!

If I could give negative stars I would. By far the worst experience I've ever had with an insurance company. I had water damage claim and they called me to say my coverage was denied due to an accidental discharge one day then called and said it was denied for another reason 4 days later when I disputed it. Crooks. Changing carriers immediately.

They should record the number of the customer calling in case they hang up on them by accident, and call the customer back. Or even follow up with an email Two representatives hung up at different times and neither called or emailed

It is sad, I called and asked for the local rep, they said they would leave a message with the agent. Z661008 to call me since the rep could not handle Hawaii questions. That was a week ago. It sucks when you call the local number and you get mainland people and they cant help you. The local rep never returns calls. I call again today and all i get is "please wait, all reps are busy", been on wait for over 20 minutes, Why? I even tried different numbers, all the same. i cant even leave a message because the voice mail is full. Zero communication. You need to find a different company and not go here. I am.

This company is everything you would think a awful insurance company would be. Poor communication and Customer Service. you file a claim you'll be dropped with no prior notification. Filed a $600 claim and was told when I called the agent to see why I was later dropped. "May have future claims" imagine being dropped from an insurance company because they my actually have to insure you. I was notified by my mortgage company that I was no longer insured. "This letter is in follow up to the claim you reported as indicated above. Our investigation revealed that the shower plumbing did result in water damages occuring to the other unit below, #XXXX That resulting property damage to unit #XXXX will be handled separately under your liability coverage. We found no resulting water damages occurred to your dwelling, as discussed in our conversations, repairs that were made to the plumbing are not covered under the policy." CANCELLED

Had a terrible home owner water leak claim experience in Hawaii. We used them as a result of the broader Geico relationship and referral. Unfortunately their service quality did not stand up to the test and we will definitely switch.
