I went to go buy a Ted Dailey stingray ring on Thanksgiving day from Sunset Traders in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. This is because my youngest daughter and I went and swam with the stingrays at night, and I wanted a momento to remind me of it. When I went, they were closed and the person next door at his shop took my phone number and the store owner Fran contacted me.
She sent me pictures of the rings and I gave her my size and picked a ring out. When I got my ring it was a little big, and she was more than willing to let me return it. She found the perfect size that fits me. I love my new ring, and I am very grateful that Fran was willing to go the extra mile to help me get this ring. It is beautiful and it makes me happy wearing it to remind me of my trip to Hawaii with my daughter! Thanks so much to Fran, and I highly recommend Sunset Traders!

There are so many places to shop when you’re shopping in Kailua Kona but you definitely want to shop Sunset Traders! So much to choose from!! Sizing from the smallest to the tallest! Tees, dresses, stickers, coffee and so so much more. We will definitely be back!!! Had the pleasure of meeting the owner and she’s super friendly and helpful!!! Can’t wait to put our new Christmas ornament on our Christmas tree this upcoming Christmas.
We had the opportunity to make it back to Kona and had the pleasure of shopping here multiple times this stay. We love the selection and the quality of materials. From the owner to everyone working with her - they’re all very knowledgeable and friendly.
As with any small business owner - in a vacation destination - dealing with everyone touching and not purchasing is anything but helpful. I imagine everyone has a bad day here or there - but if you’re an actual customer you’ll know that shopping here is quite an enjoyable experience.
Oh, and the fact that they have sizing up to 3x for my husband is fantastic!!!

This shop and the staff were awesome! The staff was very welcoming and helpful! They were very helpful in getting me the size I needed! This was a one stop shop for my families souvenir shirts! The clothing is very fairly priced and great quality. I highly recommend checking Sunset Traders out!

You have so many choices of where to shop when you come to the Big Island but after walking into Sunset Traders you won’t need or want to shop anywhere else! From the minute you walk in you will be greeted by the kindest people! Terri & Carl were so friendly! They helped us find everything we needed without ever making us feel pressured to shop. They gave us our space but were nearby when we had questions.
This store has everything! I wish I had taken more photos but I was just so excited bc who wants to waste time shopping at a bunch of different stores on vacation when they can find it all in one place? The variety ranged from the cute Christmas ornaments with Santa & turtles all the way to handmade, beautiful one of a kind jewelry. Sunset traders has items for every budget too! Stop in & grab a few postcards or buy a quality shirt that won’t fall apart after a few washes. We left with exactly what we needed, smilies on our faces & great advice on local beaches / restaurants that we should try out from Terri & Carl! They were the perfect example of Hawaiian hospitality & the Aloha Spirit! We not only enjoyed shopping in this great store but the view out the front door is beautiful! It is also conveniently located next door to shaved ice! So, shop, take photos of the ocean right outside the front door & then grab dessert! Mahalo to Terri & Carl!

OMG! This place is awesome. They have such a great variety to choose from. The best thing is if they don't have your size and if it's possible to get it, they will. It's so refreshing nowadays that when someone says they will do something and they actually follow through with it. We were in Hawaii on vacation in March this year 2024. We went to their store and I found two shirts that I wanted but they didn't have my size. The person waiting on me said she would take down my name and number, and the owner would call me. Much to my surprise, they did call and said they would be ordering more shirts, and they would order the size I needed. They got one at first, and we decided to wait for the second one and to ship them both at the same time. They went above and beyond what most businesses are willing to do for their customers. I Love my new shirts. Every time I wear those shirts, they will remind me of the excellent service and friendship I received. I highly recommend stopping in their establishment to do some shopping. Tell them Rick in Florida says, "Hi"

Great customer service and the lady that owns it is so friendly and goes above and beyond.

I would give this shop zero stars if I could, just like the other reviews the lady in the store kept barking at everyone so you felt like you have to walk on egg shells inside the store. Then all of the shirts and hoodies we bought shrunk a whole size down and some more then that. We asked if anything shrunk and the lady said no, I would have just gotten the next size up and it would have been no big deal. But now nothing fits and the zip up hoodies zipper is falling apart and it hasn't even been worn yet…… ABC store shirts/hoodies are better quality then what this store has. For the price and quality this store is a joke.

I'm a big gift shopper and I always find something at Sunset Traders. They added a whole selection of beautiful made in Hawaii jewelry, like shell and gemstone jewelry by BeachGoddessShells and Manta Ray jewelry by designer Ted Daley, so cool! I get my dad Kona shirts and Hawaii shirts there and they have beautiful stickers. Check it out when you are in Kona there is a free parking lot right behind it. The ladies are so nice and they always help me find my sizes and paw through all of the cute jewelry.

Rude and obnoxious lady “greeting” customers. She told us multiple times her instructions on how to pick up t-shirts. Avoid!

Great shirt selection, most of the shirts actually say Kona. Nice quality shirts, not junk.

Very unfriendly lady who doesn't help you in any way. So I didn't buy anything and I found another store.

Unfortunately 1 star is too many. I agree with every review that speaks to the lady that either works or owns this store. She is incredibly rude, barking out her demands about not touching the shirts without her assistance over and over and over. Make it stop!!! It’s called browsing and people want to touch and handle things before they buy, it’s part of the experience. This lady should not own a business where interaction with people is part of the job. I live here and I’m embarrassed by her behavior towards other locals, tourists and people in general, there is not one ounce of aloha when you enter her store. Move on lady and get another job or sell your business to someone who knows what retail is all about and bring back the aloha feel. Very sad.

This place usually has great stuff and friendly staff, but the woman working there announced five times while we were there that she would help us with shirts. It took me that long to realize that she was directing her comments at me because I was picking up shirts occasionnaly to see the design and feel the fabric, before refolding them and putting them back as neatly as I had found them. I had no idea I was doing something "wrong." When she wasn't implying that we should not touch the shirts, she was muttering under her breath, saying repeatedly how annoyed she was. We left without purchasing anything. We walked by a few hours later and heard her berating other customers.I've worked in retail and understand that it can be very challenging dealing with people all day long. However, her behavior was completely uncalled for and somewhat concerning.

Jarringly unwelcoming vibe compared to the rest of the stores on this street. I watched the woman who works at and possibly owns the store (see every other negative review) berate an elderly man examining a hat in front of her shirt display because she thought he may have touched a shirt? Made me want to leave immediately. No alohas here.
