From Gyotaku by Naoki

Naoki Hayashi is a self-taught artist based in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Gyotaku is the traditional method of Japanese fish printing and dates back to the mid-1800s. It was used by fishermen to record their catches. Naoki uses the same direct printing method to creating one of a kind pieces, each reflecting his signature style. Naoki’s art preserves meaningful culinary and fishing experiences; each piece is a memory of a prized dish or a great catch, and tells a captivating story through a life-sized, hand-printed work of art. As Naoki puts it, ”We fish to eat, and we print what we fish to remember and share the experience."
