I can’t express enough how wonderful my stay at Gingerhill Farm Retreat was! It turned out to be the ideal spot for my first time exploring the island. I arrived after dark, but Kiki's prompt and friendly assistance made me feel right at home from the moment I got there, she even helped me get to my cabin. I got the chance to get to know a few volunteers on the farm and they did not hesitate to help me feel right at home. Vicky even hand-picked me some fresh fruit!I stayed in Bamboo Cabin for three nights. This cozy room was exactly what I was looking for, and it exceeded my expectations with its comfort and thoughtful amenities. One of my favorite features was the outdoor kitchen and the hammock, which added a unique charm to my stay. The nighttime atmosphere was magical, with the sounds of the forest—crickets, frogs, and other wildlife—creating a peaceful, almost otherworldly ambiance that contributed to the best sleep I’ve had in a long time. Honestly, I miss it greatly now that I'm back home.I have nothing but good things to say about Gingerhill, the grounds of the farm are stunning, lush, and meticulously cared for. Wandering through the property, I felt completely at peace, soaking in the natural beauty all around me. I felt connected with nature, which is a unique Airbnb experience compared to most. Mornings were especially delightful, spent sipping tea and interacting with the friendly farm animals. Iris even brought over some fresh farm eggs, which was AMAZING!My time at Gingerhill Farm Retreat was filled with joy and tranquility! I wholeheartedly recommend this retreat to anyone looking for a serene and memorable getaway, especially if you're a big fan of nature and getting away from the hustle and bustle :)

My husband and I stayed for 6 nights (our first 5 were in the jungle canopy, last night we had the garden cottage)Let me start with how incredibly gorgeous their farm is, it's so picturesque! The canopy we stayed in was so clean with everything we could ever need in our kitchenette, plus the cedar shower at night was magical! We spent nights at the common house just to see the incredible sunrise and sunsets during our stay. Anything we asked for they were right on top of it (which we needed very little as they truly think of everything)As a side note to showing how amazing gingerhill is, I booked for 5 nights not realizing I actually needed a 6th, when I contacted them about my mistake they made us right at home and accommodated us without question for our last night! I truly hope anyone looking to visit Kona Kailua will stay here and support the incredible efforts they put forth into their organic farm and sustainable living lifestyle. Our friends stayed at another cottage on the property and waking back and forth was such a delight with all the lovely foliage and scenery? My husband and I are already looking forward to coming back and visiting the incredible individuals at gingerhill plus their outstanding fruit and coffee!!I can't wait to be back and highly encourage you to book your stay with them as it was truly a life changing trip for us Rooms: Our room had everything we needed, a giant luv sac was in the room and great for a comfy lounge in the morning. Our bed was heaven on earth, so wonderful I had the best sleep and woke up to the birds and wildlife feeling refreshed and well rested everyday.Nearby activities: So many little shops, antiques, restaurants, markets alone and more within only a few miles plus cute lol coffee spots.Highly recommend the Kona boys to rent kayaking equipment and snorkel gear for captain cooks monument as the water is out of this world! Plus they have awesome clothing/ hats, shorts etc for your sunny beach day! I also love their stickers Safety: I felt incredibly safe our entire stayWalkability: It is a farm so you have lots of little trails etc you can walk, there is a lot of incline walking if you are looking to venture about the property but just take your time and enjoy the nature safely as it's magical!Food & drinks: The coffee is out of this world!! When I asked for addition beans (grinder on site with a French press) they dropped off more without question, the fruit brought to your accommodations are the best freshest bananas etc you could ever ask for!Noteworthy details: You can walk to the market up the rd only about a mile away if you want to get some local amazing foods plus anything you night need to cook while you're staying at gingerhill!

Big Island is a unique and magnetic place, and small family farms like Gingerhill are exactly what make it so special. Stayed here for a week and got to enjoy wonderful peace and quiet close to nature. This isn’t your conventional vacation rental and that is fine by me. Iris and Zach are wonderful hosts who really strive to make a sustainable homestead. I’m so happy to have found this place of refuge. I will be back!

Great area, lovely and secluded. Makes you feel in nature with the sounds of nearby wildlife. Close to Captain Cook which has fun hiking trails and coffee.

If you're looking for a cross between camping and a hotel - if you like the idea of being surrounded by avacado, ginger, banana, coffee plants, palm trees and other flora, if you want to be immersed in a tropical forest soundscape at night - if that is your idea of heaven - then this is for you. We are those type of people and it was amazing and we could not give it enough praise. We stayed in the Garden Cottage with outside shower and kitchen, the room opens up on a porch (with kitchen) about 8' off the ground so there's a nice breeze and a nice view. If you like what I just wrote and want a Hawaiian experience like no other - well my friend, you've come to the right place.Zach and Iris supplied us with local coffee, a decently appointed kitchen, beautiful art, a simple but nice bathroom and wifi (although social media seems out of place here). My wife and I were in heaven. However, if you are the type of person that wants the hypoallergic, hyperclean, sterile environment of a hotel with a TV and a microwave and without any evidence of insects or wildlife, and you just want to look at nature but don't want it too close (like in a zoo) THIS IS NOT for you.We, however, are definitely coming back.

Beautiful place! Love the effort to reduce print, however, compost toilet need to be attended more often by the crew as most people are not very experience with it.. and refill water filter in the evening so guest will have water in the morning - the filter is super slow. Beside, we loved this place!

Beautiful and relaxing place located not far south of central Kailua-Kona. Situated on a hillside, it has a very natural and rustic look. There are some small cabins on the lower part with a shared toilet and outdoor shower. The upper places I believe may have indoor plumbing and showers. Also there is a really nice communal kitchen with lots of gear! There is a a nice deck off the kitchen where you can see the ocean. I also enjoyed the livestock there, a giant hog, some goats and chickens. Also loved the frogs and insects singing at night?

We stayed here for 5 nights in the Monkey Pod. It was wonderful! The farm is absolutely gorgeous, very much a retreat from our usual lives. We had breakfast every morning on the kitchen patio and that view was incredible. Our bed was super comfortable and our tent/yurt was very private. The shared amenities (bathroom, kitchen) are clean and never busy. We fell asleep every night to the frogs, birds, wind sounds. They supply beach towels (THANK YOU!) and masks/snorkels which came in handy for the two days we enjoyed snorkeling at Captain Cook. We hiked down to the reef: its a bit of a slog but totally worth it!Many excellent restaurants within walking or short driving distance: check out Kaya and Black Rock Pizza!Would absolutely stay here again, highly recommend it!!!

What a delight! Stayed in the Cottage and was more than we could have hoped for. We didn't want a normal hotel stay on an island as beautiful as Hawai'i so we took a chance on Gingerhill Farm Retreat. We felt like we were on a tropical island to ourselves. The greenery, the sounds the birds, everything was exactly what we had hopped. Feeling like we were in our own part of the island but also anytime we had a question there was always a prompt answer. I would recommend Gingerhill to anyone who wants a getaway feeling like they are staying in a tropical paradise.

My partner and I stayed in the Bamboo Canopy room for two nights while on Big Island. The property was beautiful! We loved falling asleep to the sound of the coqui frogs at night. The staff on site were super helpful with showing us to our room and around the property. This was our favorite place to stay while traveling between the Big Island and Maui. This is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for sustainable accommodations on the Kona side of the Island.

Thanks Gingerhill for such great and peaceful stay! This has been a really wonderful experience for all of us? we enjoyed watching sunsets from there??? Hosts are very friendly and helpful ✨The best place in Kona to explore Big Island, close to town, a really good spot for snorkeling really close by (Also thanks for borrowing us the snorkel gears, it was perfect) and It’s on the way to Green/black sand Beach! Thanks again, wanna come back soon♥️Rooms: The rooms are very comfortable and cleanNearby activities: We went to some cool coffee shops around, captain cook (a snorkeling spot) is really close, the green farmers market on Sundays, The black rock pizza (The best place for pizza in Kona)Safety: This place is very safeWalkability: It’s good, it has some areas to walk and see animals around but it’s not good for people who have problems to walk or have to use wheelchairs, because the land is not flat it’s irregularNoteworthy details: A very peaceful place?✨

In a word, magical! I was seeking beauty, peace and tranquility and Gingerhill did not disappoint! Upon arrival, we were greeted by our gracious hostess, Sylvia, who welcomed us with true Aloha spirit. We were exhausted & disoriented from our long trip and almost immediately collapsed onto our comfortable beds in the Sunset Suite, but not before watching the most astonishing sunset I have ever seen. Later that night I awoke to such bright light I actually thought it was morning! I pulled back the curtains and to my amazement, it was the stars! The deep black sky was bejeweled with trillions of bright lights; some small, some so big and seemingly close, I felt I could pluck them right from the heavens! It was so mesmerizing I stared into the sky for 4 hours that first night! Although we spent most of our days exploring the island, we would return to the farm every night just to watch the sunset and await the lovely chirping of the coqui frogs that would begin around dusk and eventually lull us to sleep. There is a gentle but powerful peacefulness that cradles, heals, and reminds you who you are - if you let it - and it's palpable at Gingerhill Farm. Just go! It will change your life. I will definitely be coming back. Mahalo!

Exactly as described. Host was very friendly and welcoming. Got there just in time to see an absolutely amazing sunset from the kitchen patio. Bed was comfortable and fell asleep to the sounds of frogs and a fresh breeze coming in from the open concept cabin. If you’re into more glamping style accommodations then this is the place for you.Did not stay long as I just needed a place to stay after night snorkelling with manta rays and morning snorkelling at captain cook before catching my flight. Ideal location for all three. My only regret is not staying longer and leaving early in the morning so I wasn’t able to fully experience everything this place had to offer. Would definitely stay here again!
