Do not join this bank! Trust me. This bank reasoned that because some thief used an email similar to my name, to make a fraudulent purchase from my bank account, (as in... "
[email protected]")... that the purchase was mine and refused to cover it. I mean, I could probably open a Gmail email account with George Washington's name on it. I guess this bank would start calling me, "Mr President"... HOW STUPID CAN U BE?!While this was happening, I had to literally yell to make the bank clerk stop from preventing my own access to my money. Once I raised my voice, she finally heard what I was saying but, it would have messed things up for weeks. Also, when I had this fraud, I needed a new atm card. But, even though I requested it, it was never ordered. I didn't know that and waited the customary two weeks without ATM access. At that point, I went into the bank and searching for the new ATM card, discovered it had never been ordered for me. Two more weeks without ATM access. They don't just give you a replacement card then and there. You have to order it and wait for weeks. My business receives checks from law firms... for absolutely no reason, they have held these checks for up to six weeks without explanation... SIX weeks saying they have to verify the check. From a law firm. Can anyone explain why it took six weeks to verify this check? NO!! But it wasn't just the one time, they've held checks for four weeks before. I'm charged for everything. Overdraft fees are $30 a day. ATM charges are five dollars each. However, even if I use the first Hawaiian Bank ATM in another town, AT the bank, I'm still charged the five dollars. So, using my own bank, I'm charged ATM fees. They just make stuff up to charge you for. This is the worst bank I've ever experienced in my life! Absolutely do not join us bank! They're the REAL thieves!!

I went in to see about a service charge on my account and the lady wanted to change my account to save $1 but it would change my ATM etc..I SPECIFICALLY stated I did not want to because the last time my number changed on debit and took over two weeks to get...come to find out, she did it anyway. Not worth the $1 a month to screw up my account and make me change everything that I pay online. Got a call apologizing but it screwed up everything and when I spoke with the branch manager (Karen), she would do nothing to help.Lost my account, my debit card no longer worked, etc all because of their customer service negligence. They wouldn't even take off my service fee due to losing my direct deposit because of the fire...changing banks immediately. I told you I would do this....you guys blow.Terry

This is the best bank I have used in the past 20+ years here. I won't keep my money anywhere else. Highly recommend this bank!

Their hours just don't work for people who work. Lines are slow and long! Deposits can't be made on atm

I cancelled my safety deposit box and they continue to charge me for it. I have called six different times, sat on hold for at least 30-45 mins and each time was told 'it will be resolved and someone will call me'. Still not resolved. Still haven't had a call back. Disgusting customer service. Waiting for it to be credited and then I am cancelling my account. I had been a FHB member for 22 years. Had my business banking with them. Personal banking. I will not recommend them. Yesterday I spoke to a supervisor at their call center who 'assured me he would speak to the General Manager at Kihei FHB and they would call me today'. Still nothing....

Not only are the staff at this branch extremely rude and unhelpfulFHB in general needs to come out of the 1990s. We will be closing our business and personal accounts after misleading information from their staff.

This place has gone downhill with service. The Wailea Branch was much better. This branch in Kihei needs to expand hours to serve the customers when is convenient for us!

Absolute worst customer service ever. FHB in general is extremely behind the times - website is always down and there's huge limitations. Things other banks make easy on apps and websites FHB requires in person at the branch for. Kihei specifically has been the worst bank I have ever dealt with.

The bank clerk Tess made it very easy to take our business somewhere else. Thank you! Keeping there customers with First Hawaiian is not a priority.

I came in to have some documents notorized today. There was no sign up sheet, just a clear acrylic stand with a sign reading “Make An Appointment For Notary” without specifying where or how to. I took a seat and a woman came out to help but apparently there was a guy in front of me (had no idea there was a line, as there was no sign up sheet). Okay. So I waited and once they were done she motioned at me to sit at her desk. I needed to have some documents notorized and she gave me the run-around. She kept asking me if I had an account there - what difference does it make? I was willing to compensate her for her services irregardless of my bank account status. I actually had a truck loan through FHB in 2014 and I have an active credit card account thru FHB. Does that not count? Anyways, she refused to notorize my documents and she wasn’t very helpful in telling me what exactly did I need to procure for her to stamp my documents. Nothing what she was telling me was anything like what was written on my documents.I give 2 stars because the AC is always cranking in there. Helps keep you cool after losing your cool. There used to be such nice tellers that worked there 10-12 years ago. Not anymore. I’ll take my notary business elsewhere.

I’m 100% positive all the bad review are from transplants who don’t belong here and should go back where they came from. Stop complaining and deal with it. Or go back home. Simply as that

When we first moved to Hawaii in 2004, we had issues in trying to cash a check. At that point we did our business elsewhere. In 2019 we got an auto loan through First Hawaiian Bank. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, we have had to move back to the mainland in December 2020. In February 2021, seven months ago, we paid off our auto loan. We still have not gotten our title slip. They have one excuse after another. We are not in Hawaii so it is hard to follow up. Calling them seems to go nowhere. Supposedly, the person that was working on this quit and there was no follow through. Very disappointing and upsetting.

Poor customer service, fees around $10 a month just for "online account/service fee", and horrendous call wait times. I also bank with Valley Isle Community Federal Credit union and have never had any of the problems above.
