Honua Kai is a great place to stay. The grounds are incredible. The beach was great. And our room was immaculate. Having pool side service from Duke's was also a big plus.

Maui is still recovering from the Lahaina fire. Some services haven't returned yet. Residents of the area are ready to welcome tourists back to their businesses. These people are very friendly and resilient.Honua Kai Resort is beautiful.Walkability: Lots of paths around the complex for walkers and joggers.Food & drinks: Duke restaurant on site provides excellent food and service $$ - $$$.

We had a two bedroom suite with ensuite bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room and a large balcony. Very nicely decorated and furnished. Duke’s restaurant is also onsite.

The condo was awesome, but could have had a few additional kitchen tools and prep items like large mixing bowls, a pitcher, and cookie sheets. Otherwise, it's really nice, very clean and

We rented 2 units (6A and C) for a week for our family of 13 in the Luana Garden Villas through Maui Resort Rentals. The units were exceptional and exceeded our expectations. They are beautiful, spacious, and well-equipped (although they did not have exactly the same kitchen utensils and servingware-6A had more both in terms of variety and quantity of than 6C). We had 2 very minor issues (dishwasher and internet) that were resolved immediately. The communication with the rental agent guest experience was excellent from booking more than a year ago to departure. We can’t say enough good things about the units or the guest services! Both outstanding. We chose these particular rentals because they have access to all of the Honua Kai resort amenities and facilities. We’d give 2 stars to the Honua Kai Resort. Our disappointments were related specifically to the services and amenities offered by the resort. Non-working towel dispensers and tepid hot tubs in the Enclave pool, the children’s water slide closed at times due to “security” or “staff” or other excuses, no “sand beach” entrance to the kids pool as advertised and the lazy river doesn’t actually move. Tiles falling off the pools.Staff at the pool/hotel/restaurants gave conflicting answers about who was responsible for responding to a concern or problem. The resort could definitely be more family friendly - there is insufficient shade or umbrellas near the resort pools and the space surrounding the pools is not really adequate for the number of guests.Beach umbrellas and chairs are $100/day, pool cabana rental is $375/day.Apple Pay was not working at restaurants or pool shack and because we were renting through Maui Resort Rentals we couldn’t charge to our rooms. Inefficiencies at the Aina Cafe-created 20-30 minute waits to order and get food because they are understaffed and disorganized.Final words - we loved our specific units and working with Maui Resort Rentals and would happily recommend both but would be unlikely to consider renting at this particular resort again. It definitely definitely needs a refresh.Rooms: The Luana Garden Villas situated on the property were extremely spacious, well-equipped, beautifully appointed with high end appliances and large lanais with built-in gas grills and outdoor refrigerators. They are the newest accommodations on the property. All 3 bedroom, 3 bathrooms that can sleep 8.Food & drinks: Limited to Duke’s Restaurant and the very small limited menu Aina cafe.

I rented 2 of the 3 bedroom villas for a family trip. The Villas were lovely and very nicely appointed. The Villas were perfect for families, although if getting multiple Villas I would suggest the 1st floor Villas. We had 2 - 2nd floor villas and had to go out side and around the front or back to get to each one.The negative for us was the long walk to the beach and not having beach service. You can rent umbrellas but this service was inconsistent and not always reliable. You had to trek from the villas with all your own towels; chairs; boogie boards and kids toys. Also While Duke's restaurant was very good; it was the only one in the resort. All the pools were nice and much better located from Villas than the Beach.I booked through AMEX Platinum and it is not the quality of other places I have booked through them.

Amazing 3BR with Ocean view and nice layout (5 stars for that).BUT SERIOUSLY OWNERS… for what we paid - get your you know what together and fix your refrigerator/freezer - it operates at less than 50%. Had a lot of waste when it fridge went warm. Ice dispenser broken (Maui Rentals brought a tabletop ice maker which was nice) but it was too hard to rely on throughout the week.Kitchen had just the basics and not enough cookware. We bought our own stock pot and a few cooking pans.HOA has to get the cockroaches under control. Our family in another unit had an exterminator come in day 1. When we actually looked at night there they were. Made it so we didn’t want to cook, and had to wash everything before cooking and eating bc they were in every cabinet.Other than that it’s a gem of a spot.

So...location was excellent, some great snorkeling a couple hundred yards down the beach. Not my thing but the pools were great for the kids, plenty of them. Duke's was convenient and food was better than average. The rooms were laid out nicely and the kitchen and w/d were handy. But...we found cockroaches in 2 of our 3 rooms, all rooms had a faint smell of smoke and our room just outright stank. One of the kids said it smelled like used cat litter. Carpets were stained. They cleaned one room for cockroaches and supposedly treated our room for the smell which made no difference. They also have the rooms rigged so the AC shuts off if the balcony doors are left open (to air out the room). Disappointing considering I paid for 3 rooms for 10 days! Recommend for the location - just don't book room 438 (or 444)!

Beautiful resort located in Kaanapali. Plenty of pool options for adults and kids. Stayed in a 3 bedroom-full kitchen suite. Made feeding children so much easier. Would do it again.

Villa 7D was the best experience with a large family. Location and amenities were top notch. Villa pools were not crowded making a great time for kiddos. The villa itself was modern with exceptional layout. Each room felt soundproof. So much space and balconies for 5 star experience. No better way to stay in

The service to this place is very bad. Currently I am staying at this resort. In first two days I had two bad experiences. 1. There is no first aid kit in the building. The security keep the first aid kit and it takes more than 30 minutes to security to come over and bring the first aid kit if needed so if you decide to stay here bring your own first aid kit.2. If air-condition to your room does not work and then you get only excuses from the front desk, it does not get fixed and no effort has been made to address the issue. Only apologies and excuses. They spoiled my two days.I still need to see how many bad experiences I will need to experience here during my stay. But surely I will post here.

My family rented a three bedroom/three bath, that could accommodate six adults, via Marriott Homes & Villas. The unit was less expensive on Expedia, but with my Marriott points, the price was reduced significantly. Although I booked through the Marriott website, their "trusted partner" was Maui Rentals which was responsive to my questions prior to our visit. I reserved a pack n play and high chair at no additional cost. The unit touted its well appointed kitchen and because we had a toddler with us, I wanted to book a place that included a kitchen, since we planned to eat most of our meals there. Before our arrival, I was told that we could use the bellmen to help with our bags and there would be five "bracelets" (to be used for towels) waiting for us. When we arrived, there were two bracelets and no one would call Maui Rentals, but gave us the phone number (?). I called and was told they would bring over the additional bracelets. They were not delivered so my husband had to walk to another location to pick them up. Strike One. We had also been given the combination to our room for keyless entry, which we received via email. When I got to the room there was no combination display so again I had to call someone and experienced yet another delay. Finally someone called and said that our floor hadn't been set up yet for a combination entry so we should use the bracelets, which at that time not everyone had. Strike Two.When we finally entered the unit with the bellman, everything seemed fine at first glance. Then we opened the glass door to the balcony and ran smack into the dining table and chairs which were in the way and very tattered (no doubt a result of the placement of the chairs and table). It impossible to avoid hitting the chairs, much less fully open the door. We had to physically move everything in order to do that. The kitchen was visually impressive. Viking appliances, wine refrigerator and even a Vitamix blender. Unfortunately, it was NOT well stocked. There were plates, cups, cereal bowls, glasses, flatware and a few small pots and pans. No prep bowls, pitchers (other than a small one for water), platters (which I had planned to use for the communal BBQs) or covered storage containers. The toaster was half broken, as was the ice maker in the freezer. Needless to say, it was not what was represented to us. So began a number of calls and texts to Maui Rentals. They delivered two large bags of ice and offered to "shop" for whatever we needed. We were told that the unit was individually owned but clearly it was commercially "stocked." I was asked to give them a list of what I needed.Initially, a few items were delivered. I then spoke to a rep at Maui Rentals who shamed me when she said, "Well, most people come for vacation not for cooking!" That's why you advertised such a wonderful kitchen complete with a wine refrigerator and Viking appliances? That was more than Strike Three, and we ended up spending a lot of money on food which we was not in our original plan. I was told that they would "go shopping" for things we needed, which they did, but after going back and forth, many kitchen items weren't available in Lahaina (i.e. platters to move food to the communal BBQs), so we gave up.At least one of the community pools was blocked from use (and for two days there were two pools out) during our entire stay at Honua Kai except for the day we left. Two different pools had pipes break which looked like sewage (it wasn't), however they worked on the big one and it was cleaned up in a day or so. The other pool had problems during the entire week until our last day. As others have pointed out, there was a lot of construction going on, however we didn't see much in Konea, the building in which we rented.Because of the kitchen misrepresentation, I wrote Marriott's CEO and the VP in charge of Homes & Villas requesting my points be returned since we spent a significant amount of money eating out but received 10% of what I used...

Stayed here for the last two nights of a 14 day vacation with my wife and kids. This part of our vacation was unplanned, but the room was prepared and made available to us on short notice without problem. The room was just the right size for our family of six and very clean. Very happy with our stay!! ?

Lovely place to stay but rooms need checking prior to arrival for missing and cracked crockery and cleaniness. Otherwise a perfect room to stay.Lovely location and beautiful beach where you might catch a glimpse of a turtle . Julie on the desk in the Honua tower was so helpful and very knowledgeable about the island , she deserves to be employee of the month.Enjoyed our 10 day stay. ?
