January 2024 by Violet H.
It's early January 2024 and Kahana Beach Resort is now open. Rooms are being "refreshed." I'm not sure how much longer it will go on. My room refresh just finished and now they're working next door, but the noise hasn't been bad. I only heard footsteps upstairs briefly each morning. I heard doors closing and other noise from the hallway. The property is off of the old highway, so there isn't much street noise.I am in a studio. The doors are light and this is an issue when there are wind gusts. The doors rattle loudly and it sounds like someone is jiggling the handle and banging against the door to get in. The first night I was here there were lots of winds gusts and the loud rattling of the door repeatedly kept me from falling asleep. Gone are the Murphy beds; now there are regular queen beds. The mattress is firm but there's some give. There's still a pull-out couch; it's comfortable to sit on, but I didn't try sleeping on it.There are plenty of pillows, bedding, dish towels, and bath towels. All the basics are provided (pots, pans, dishes, utensils, dish soap, iron, etc., etc.). There is laundry on certain floors and they provide detergent. The machines accept coins, which you can get at the front desk. Please note: The machines have WashConnect stickers, but WashConnect does not work here. I contacted the company and they said that Kahana Beach Resort is not one of their accounts. All rooms have a lanai with tables and chairs. My room was in the corner on the mauka (mountain) side, which was fine with me, but I could see the ocean from the lanai. And the beach is literally right behind the building. There's a pool and hot tub, plenty of lounge chairs, two BBQs, and some tables and chairs by the grills. Parking is in front. There is a ramp right next to the five stairs in front.I never turned on the A/C or heat; I opened the lanai door when it was warm and put another blanket on at night when it was cold. There's a large flat-screen TV that seems to have tons of channels, but it really doesn't. There are no premium channels. But I found two Korean channels and one Japanese channel I watch a lot at home, so I was happy. BTW, there's a lag when you press any button on the remote; give it a few seconds before giving up. Theoretically the cable should always be on and you only need to turn the TV on and off (so said the instructions), but I always had to turn on the cable box. While there is plenty of room for two bathrooms sinks, there is only one. Personally I don't think this was a good move, but it saved money, and provided me with ample counter space to put out my things. Tons of mirrors; you can see your front and back, whether you want to or not. The large closet is behind the sink. (There's also a dresser below the TV.)The toilet and walk-in shower are in a separate, tiny, poorly-designed room. It's good because one person can be in there while someone is out at the sink. But you must close the bathroom door, even if it's just you there. The TP holder sticks out from an awkward spot behind the door. The walk-in shower does have a low barrier you must step over. There a cool rock design on the floor of the shower. There's a rainfall shower head and a smaller detachable shower head with a hose. Both have multiple settings. And they provide a non-skid shower mat! Hooray! I didn't have to use mine. Most places don't have these anymore and they should, for safety reasons. There's a dining table with four chairs in front of the couch. But, IMHO, with the removal of the Murphy bed, they should have moved things around so it makes more sense since the bed is always there now. As it is now, one edge of the bed is less than four feet from where you will be cooking your eggs or stir-frying your vegetables. The current arrangement also wastes space. The couch could go to the right of where it is now, the bed goes where the couch is, and the dining table goes where the bed was. That makes sense because then the table

OMG!!! Wonderful lil hotel on MAUI, LAHAINA NOT OLD LAHAINA THAT AREA AT THIS DATE 12/2023 is blocked from the public and is being restored. This is just a little past that resort area...still resortish. Such a little Gem. Very comfortable spacious privet room, looking smack out into the beautiful ocean from your queen bed dining area and balcony. . There's also a hidabed that appears to be a queen. This room looks very nice and clean. The shower and such are sufficient plenty of electrical plugins. . I must say it's sad that there has been so much loss in Lahaina. However there are plenty of businesses and restaurants and ABC store all the usual still seem to be available. . Fine dining , it's all around here. We aren't using a car, we just Ubering..looking for a local church and Ukulele. Store. .found a native Hawaiian Mike who sells them, lost his business burnt to ground. Going to show some support to this community in some small way. I hope all you will too. By the way...it is 74°-89° with a constant breeze to wind some sprinkles then sun. December is beautiful here. Reminds me of Alameda Calif.only more chill.

Beyond our expectations- currently under renovations which are definitely needed, but you can't beat the beach front location. The staff is beyond friendly and helpful. The amenities include a fulle equiped kitchen and towel service, which makes the Kahana beach resort a more affordable and family friendly travel option. Highly recommended.

I give the place 5 stars for being right on the beach. I know of no other resorts that have a lanai for the ocean view rooms that have a view that you can see the sunsets into the horizon. My wife & I have been to the resort a number of time and will be back in July. The rooms very (THIS Review has been updated and the studio rooms have been renovated & there are no more murphy beds along with a new whirlpool A+) and and the studio’s are efficient with a kitchenette & a pull down bed. Some units have a Mountain View and or a partial ocean. Some are right on the ocean so be aware of the room you are purchasing. The 1 bedrooms are great and are situated on the corner of the building and are very comfortable with 2 lanais & a full kitchen. You can hear the sound of the waves along with a nice breeze from the “oceanfront” rooms. This resort is more of a condo so don’t expect someone to carry your bags to your room. If you arrive late you will have no one at the front desk so you will have to call the “Sands” next door by to get your keys. The studios are good because they are reasonable priced and if you are out most of the day, why pay big money to not be in the room? All units have AC which is critical on hot days so that is a bullet point for me because so my places don’t have AC so beware if you don’t like hot temperatures. There is a beach right in front of the resort along with chair to relax, a whirlpool right on the beachfront , a cold swimming pool and a barbecue area with table to sit. The place is private compared to a full scale resort which is nice if you don’t want to be crowded. Beautiful beaches are all around so if you are in the know then don’t limit yourself to the hotel’s beach. It’s fine for a day or two or a relaxing short dip or snorkel. Next door is the “Sands” hotel where you can grab a great breakfast or a drink at a nice bar.The rooms are cleaned mid week and there are washing machine and dryers on certain floors. I prefer a high floor because of the magnificent views of Lani & Maliki in the near distance. To me everything is close. Front Street, Blackrock & top notch diving, golf and restaurants right in the area.Food shopping is easy so the kitchen is nice to have in so many ways. When it comes to price, I find great value in staying there. Also, you can see plenty of whales breaching the ocean during whale season along with turtles abound.Mahalo

Update: they are refreashing the rooms. I posted pics of redone room. Main differences are the bath area has been redone with walk in shower, i think flooring and carpeting is new, and they got rid of murphey bed in studio. I like the concept of murphey better than always out normal bed espceally since it is right next to kitchenette. But the prior mattresses were not great. Bed matress is better. They did not make a full kitchen still no oven or dishwasher and still super small. The view is still wonderful from pretty much any unit. The location is pretty good although it is a bit of a drive to most conveniences but it's right on the beach. The resort is older although it seems to be up kept pretty well it has a pool which is small and a hot tub but no real area to lay in the sun. The room was clean there is a minimal kitchen area small refrigerator microwave and cooktop but pretty limited as far as size and supplies. I had a studio with a Murphy bed the mattress on the Murphy bed was thin and pretty uncomfortable.

Gorgeous beach area just outside. Pool, chairs, hot tub all here.Rooms: Remodeling during the visit, but most guests are out all day, so there is no inconvenience.

Never have I felt so unwelcome in any place before. I witnessed screaming matches with staff and customers. Pool, Beach access, and lounges were all prohibited for no reason. You actually had to walk on the street to get the the beach. This is because they wouldn't let you sit or lay out in their chairs or walk through the back to get to the beach. I have travelled a good bit, I will never go back to Hawaii again because of this place, and my experience. They completely ruined a trip.

This page is pretty awesome. We stayed in a studio apartment. The views are divine. The sounds of the waves crashing on the beach will put you to sleep. The staff are all very friendly. The only draw back is the beds, they feel like you're sleeping on plywood. That won't prevent us from coming back yearly.

The rooms are average & the beds (we had a pull out sofa and a Murphy bed) are definitely not the most comfortable. Our room was clean (my sister found a cockroach in hers but left the balcony door open at night) and had everything we needed, including a kitchenette with a small stove, which was great because we were there for a full week and didn't want to eat out every meal. They also have nice gas grills on the property for guests to use. It was quiet and really nice until our last night and then some young people came and were screaming in the pool until 10:30 or 11 pm and in the ocean screaming and yelling directly outside our room at 4 am. I'd have probably been more annoyed if it didn't happen at the end of our stay. The view was INCREDIBLE. I can't say enough about it. This place is all about location location location.

One of the best vacation clubs we have stayed so far. The Room is spacious and the balcony views are simply amazing. We had a sofa bed as well as a murphy bed , kitchen utensils, coffee maker oven and all basic amenities required for a comfortable stay. Parking spots are limited but very unlikely you will have to park off street.

Our view was extraordinary and location was convenient. Not too overcrowded but the pull down bed was a bit uncomfortable. Besides that, we enjoyed our stay.

We knew that we were staying at an older and less expensive property and had embraced that concept. The location is beautiful and the beach is really quite nice. Parking is free and the room was fairly clean. We would definitely recommend not checking into any of the 01 or 02 rooms on the first few floors. We had the very poor experience of having room 102.This room should be a storage room or office but not a resort room. Its has a very small through the trees* view of the ocean. Most of the rest of the view is of the adiacent resorts utility cribs. This room is also at ground level and on the path for ocean / resort access. Therefore many people pass by and look into your room if your lanai door is open. The toilet smelled of sewage and the pullout bed was dirty. We had ants in the kitchenette. We asked to move to another room or for somecompensation. Management would not budge. My family can see the value in the ocean-fronting rooms 03 and above. However room 102, sandwiched between the elevators, concierge desk, and bellhop carts, is an afterthought. It is essentially a part of the lobby with all of the implied nuances.

We enjoyed a studio room, 7th floor with a wall of windows overlooking the ocean. Sunsets every night, full moon setting in the morning, turtles on the beach. Easy to park and get to everywhere we wanted to go. Yes the rooms are dated but very comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful.

This place had a million dollars view. We were able to see sea turtles, surfers, and whale watch right from our balcony. The rooms are decent for the price, it's great on a budget.
