Our family just returned from a week at the Westin Maui, and unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations—especially for a property positioned (and priced) as a luxury resort.
While the grounds and setting are beautiful, the service across the board was shockingly poor. From the office staff to housekeeping, the concierge, and the front desk, the prevailing attitude was indifference. Requests were met with shrugs, questions with blank stares, and follow-through was rare. It felt as though staff were either undertrained, poorly managed, or just didn’t care.
Public spaces were consistently dirty—hallways, elevators, and pool areas often looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in days or weeks. Communication was lacking at every turn, and attention to detail, whether in room readiness, food service, or amenities, was nonexistent. We had to chase down basics like towels, clarification on charges, and even housekeeping service.
It’s clear the resort is in need of a leadership overhaul. There’s a beautiful property here—but it’s being wasted under the current standard of service. With better management and a commitment to hospitality, it could be a truly excellent destination. Sadly, right now, it simply isn’t.
I would not recommend the Westin Maui until significant changes are made.

Great place to stay, especially for those with children. The staff is super friendly, the views are immaculate, and the restaurants are great. Also in a fantastic location, just a short walk to good restaurants and Whalers Village Shops.

Feels like a scam. We booked a room for 4 adults. At checkin they tell us we need to pay an additional $90/nt because we have more than 2 adults. Basically they want us to pay more or go somewhere else.

Location is this “resort’s” singular redeeming quality. Aside from location, the hotel is pedestrian at best. The hotel grounds were consistently overcrowded. Beyond the front desk, the grounds also weren’t particularly clean, which extended into the actual rooms - also not particularly clean.
Generally (but not all), the people who work at the hotel were not friendly or helpful. Overall, the whole hotel experience was underwhelming, which was a shame because it’s such a beautiful island. I highly recommend spending your hard-earned money and time someplace else.

The rooms and service were amazing. Everyone was so attentive. The shuttle drivers, top notch and one in particular, Rafael-a veteran driver, gave us great information about nice spots to eat and hang out. I enjoyed staying here and sitting out on the beach. The caveat: Too far away from the airport.

Very dirty hotel, roaches in rooms. Don’t stay here.. if you want luxury, go to the Four Seasons.
Booked an expensive suite in the “luxury” Hokupaa tower, expecting a high level of service.
Upon check it, it took over an hour and two phone calls to get our luggage into our room. We had a luau to get to at 5pm and were late to it.
Worst of all, the room is DIRTY, doors don’t close tightly and bugs crawl in. I found a huge cockroach in the room (see photo) called for help and was told someone would come up immediately. Waited 30 minutes and no one ever showed up. Once my husband got back to the room, he took care of it himself. After complaining, the person at the desk said she would talk to her manager and come back with options to make it right. That also never happened.
This morning the kids pool was filled with garbage, including beer cans.
Really kicking myself for not booking the Four Seasons as I normally do.

Happy hour with my girlfriends was nice, beautiful view of the sunset, only downside the champagne we ordered was not cold and I wish they would have let us know before opening the bottle

We stayed at the Westin Maui Resort and Spa from July 13-22. We really enjoyed the property and loved the ocean views each morning. The location was perfect as it was a very short walk to Whalers Village for shopping and to grab quick items from the ABC store. We want to recognize the cleaning staff (Evelyn) for doing an outstanding job on our room! It was always clean and stocked with fresh linens. She was very friendly and welcoming.

Stayed here for my honeymoon and it was absolutely AMAZING! 💯 Terrific view right on the water and just an excellent resort...couldn't have asked for a better spot! Thank you for making our Maui-moon so wonderful Westin! 😊

This is a very nice, but outdated hotel. The staff is friendly and always willing to help.
The food menus in their restaurants are limited.
The chairs in the pool area are insufficient and they have few umbrellas.

The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka'anapali is so wonderful in every way! Their staff is professional, warm and friendly...from the front desk, to the restaurants, and the maid service. This Westin does an incredible job at all guest touch-points. I really don't know how such a large resort does such an excellent job at making its guest feel so cared for magical and special. I also want to point out a few exceptional Westin employees that made our family vacation extra special. Cameron Moreno at check-in welcomed us with so much care. He went above and beyond in his greeting us and getting us situated to the several rooms we had booked for our family. He was so kind, accommodating, and caring after our long flight to Maui. Cameron made us feel so welcome and excited for our week at the beautiful Westin Kaanapali! And Lori was also exceptional at the check out desk with her beautiful smile and Aloha spirit. Cade another employee standout who made our trip special with his kind and gentle Aloha spirit. This is a truly special Westin who is doing a stupendous job in every area at creating a lasting magical memory for its guests. We will be returning again and again!!!
