This wellness retreat resort nestled in the serene, verdant mountains offers a truly unparalleled experience. For those seeking inner peace and tranquility, this destination surpasses expectations.
Superior amenities include lush gardens, a rejuvenating spa, refreshing pools, and invigorating outdoor hot tubs. However, dining options are limited and service can be slow, reflecting the leisurely pace of Lanai culture.
Lavenda's warm hospitality further enhanced our stay, from airport pickup to check-in, offering a personalized tour and insightful explanations of the facilities.

My wife and I, live on Oahu, chose the Four Seasons Sensei on Lana’i to celebrate her birthday, seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu. From the moment we arrived via Lana’i Air, we were enveloped in luxury and warmth, thanks to the welcoming staff. The resort, nestled amidst lush gardens and exotic flora, evoked a sense of tranquility akin to being in a rainforest.
The staff’s professionalism and genuine care ensured that we felt truly embraced throughout our stay. The eight Onsens provided serene relaxation, complemented by a serene and uncrowded pool. Our immaculate rooms boasted exquisite decor, and the thoughtful turndown service added a touch of charm to our evenings.
Moreover, the food was a highlight of our experience. Dining at Nobu was a delight, with delicious breakfast offerings sourced from local farms, providing a fresh and flavorful experience. The opportunity to feed the koi fish was an added joyful touch to our meals. While we wished for more dining options across the resort, this minor quibble did not diminish our overall satisfaction with our stay. These little touches only served to enhance the magic of our experience.
While the shuttle service to other Four Seasons properties and the town was convenient, the allure of Sensei was so compelling that we were reluctant to venture elsewhere. However, we did make our way to the Lana’i Cat Sanctuary, which is a must (for cat lovers) if you visit Lana’i. In our opinion, this stands as the pinnacle of Four Seasons hospitality across the Hawaiian islands. Heartfelt gratitude to everyone at the Sensei who contributed to our unforgettable experience. We eagerly anticipate our return to this remarkable resort.

Stayed here once. I regretted the experience after learning that the entire island has been owned by billionaires for about a century.
Billionaires are often successful people that earn their wealth, but no one deserves to have power like this.
No one should be able to own almost 100,000 acres of HAWAIIAN LAND.
It was never the right of anyone to outright take or buy this land!

Sensei has reset my understanding of luxury!! This is a beautifully appointed resort, on a fabulous campus, with incredible customer service, all focused on the guests well- being. The resort is spacious and clean, artfully decorated with wonderful spaces to be. The rooms were super comfortable, luxurious bed and sheets, a wall of windows that lead out to a private veranda. They offer all the amenities you could want for your stay, a Toto bidet toilet, and laundry service at no extra charge. The landscaping is beautiful with plants brought in from all over the world. There are pathways throughout the campus. They offer hales: private bathing with steam rooms and saunas, onsens: warm pools with privacy created by the mass of plants separating them, yoga, exercise and fitness rooms, and of course the spa. There is so much attention paid to each of these areas to make them exceed expectations. The people we met were incredibly helpful and exude friendliness- starting with the flight to Lanai as part of our stay package, until we were placed in line for the ferry to Maui. The wellness teacher were informative, the experience assistants set us up with a great calendar, the activities were well organized- absolutely nothing went wrong. This whole visit fulfilled our desire to relax and reset.

Friday was a great day. Kristin and I rented a jeep and drove up to the Garden of the Gods on Lanai and it looked like Mars—soooo cool with incredible ocean views. We then proceeded to off road it to a beach where we drove over deep gully’s Sensei is a tropical paradise. They have plants from all over the world there. As they brought in new species they’d have to quarantine them for a year to see how they grew with the other plants. There were flowers there I’d never seen before. Had a delicious lunch at their restaurant, Nobu, situated on one of the many ponds on the property. Afterwards they gave us fish food for the koi fish. We enjoyed walking the peaceful grounds where every turn was beautifully landscaped. They even have natural spring stone hot tubs with waterfalls so we opted to relax in one. We even went into their natural looking wrap around pool.

Just a small amount of research on Hawaiian history and colonization wrecks the fantasy of staying here.
This luxury comes to you on stolen land.
Free Hawaii.

The FourSeasons/Sensei resort on Lana'i is a luxurious retreat with an emphasis on "wellness". The entire property is beautiful, although the obvious caveat is if you are looking for sun, surf, and sand; this isn't the place. The resort is more like a glorious lodge, up in the mountains. The grounds and landscaping are stunning, felling like a throwback to old Hawaii. There are multiple ponds and a lake, as well as a beautiful large and winding lava rock pool with three jacuzzis. Do not miss the Onsen spas. These are little private hot pools hidden next to a babbling stream or small waterfall. When you arrive, you need to pause and take in the amazing lobby. It's so well appointed and comfortable, you'll want to spend some time here. The service levels here are over the top. Everyone greets you by name and is so sincerely friendly it almost takes getting used to. They all seem to really enjoy their jobs and this totally comes through to the guest. If you want to feel an almost tangible sense of "aloha", spend some time here. The food here is very good. You can have in room dining, eat at the one restaurant, or dine at the Garden Bar. It's all quality driven, and the waitstaff is incredibly attentive and competent. There is a Nobu "Sensei" here, and the menu is a little bit different. Food was tasty, with the Onaga and the quail being two standout dishes. We also dined at the Manele Nobu, and that venue offered a more typical Nobu menu. Dining there while on Lanai is a must. Everything is good. Don't miss the Miso Cod, Shitake Salad, or the Crispy Rice Cake with Spicy Tuna. One restaurant that really left an impression was "One Forty". While something described as "Steak and Seafood" can strike you as somewhat mundane, this place is anything but. Again, incredible service, but this chef is amazingly accomplished. Everything was excellent! The scallop and corn appetizer will not leave the culinary part of my brain. I also had what was possibly the best steak of my life. Sorry Canlis, and apologies to all the lauded New York steak joints. This was simply perfection. Tender, perfectly cooked, and possessing the exactly correct seasoning. You have your choice of sauces and the tarragon Bernaise was good, but the steak alone was a reward for a life well lived. A few things worth mentioning. The lower resort on the water (Manele) has an amazing golf course, beautiful beach, and the aforementioned restaurants. As a Four Seasons guest you can use these but you can't use the pool. There is a shuttle that goes between properties every hour, and takes about 25 minutes. Sometimes this takes some planning. There are many spa treatments available at Sensei. The emphasis is on wellness. We did a couples massage in which post massage you get to utilize the Hale for half an hour. This is a beautiful 1000 sf building (there are 10) that has a landscaped yard with waterfall, cool pool, hot pool, outdoor shower. Inside is a steam shower(amazing!), infra red sauna, bathroom. This was insanely expensive, but we are glad we did it. I am starting a gofundme to do it again. The hotel rooms are spacious and lavish. I only wish it had a better coffee machine. Here is how we got to Lanai from Seattle: when we arrived in Honolulu, someone met us at baggage claim. We never touched our bags again until we got to the room. We walked out of baggage claim and a car pulls up to take us (5 minutes) to the Lana'i Air hangar. You sit inside for about ten minutes and are offered a beverage and small snacks. You then get on an 8 seater plane for a 20 minute flight to Lanai. A shuttle picks you up for the 15 minute ride to the hotel. This was all great and a pretty amazing experience. When you arrive at the hotel, you have a sit down check in, orientation, and tour. I honestly felt this took too long, and after a long day of travel I just wanted to get to my room and get out of those travel clothes. All in all, it was a great trip. It's not for everyone, but it is a pr
