Hours: The Kauaʻi Humane Society is a nonprofit organization and the island's only open-intake animal shelter. It is dedicated to fostering compassion for all animals and enriching lives by nurturing healthy relationships between pets and people. Their dedication is evident, and they deserve all the financial support they receive and more. A highlight is their fantastic dog field trip program, often described as a blast and so fun, acting as an instant hike enhancer. Participants take a dog out for the day, which helps the dogs find a home. The dogs are reported to be wonderful, gentle on the leash, and great with people, making the program highly recommended. Visitors are reminded to upload photos and information using a provided QR code to aid adoption. The staff receives praise for being very patient, passionate, professional, and knowledgeable, especially during rescue operations. However, some feedback notes that current procedures, like requiring escorts and limiting direct access to see all animals, may limit the adoptable animals' exposure to the public. Despite this, many are happy owners of adopted alumni from the shelter.
