Open Gate Hostel Hawaii is the only accommodation on the whole east of the island. It is a very cute place in a cool, off-grid location on the lava rocks with impressive views over the lava fields and town. The surroundings are stunning, peaceful, and remote with no light or noise pollution, perfect to unwind, relax, recharge, and stargaze. It is not a five-star hotel but has all the basics, including a shared kitchen and clean shared bathrooms and showers. There are lots of shared sitting areas, a stargazing porch on the roof, cool murals, an area with games, and a TV watching area; it is really like a treehouse. The atmosphere is really calm and friendly. The people and guests are super cool, awesome to hang out with, really friendly, pleasant, and respectful. The manager is amazing, incredibly kind, welcoming, helpful, and informative, providing great recommendations for local events, beaches, and nature to explore. Guests enjoy the free breakfast, bonfires, freshly made pizza, sleeping in hammocks, and the nice atmosphere and talks. It is the perfect spot to chill and see the Hawaiian experience.
The location is the best as it’s the only accommodation in the whole east of the island. The manager is amazing, Marisa. She’s super kind and helpful. The location of the hostel and the views to the town over the lava fields are impressive.

everyone involved at the hostle was super cool and awesome to hangout with/meet! cool location on the lava rocks, off grid quiet location. perfect spot to just chill and go around seeing the beaches and nature. cant wait to come back one day

Had the most wonderful time at the open gate hostel stargazing, sleeping in hammocks, bonfires and eating the freshly made pizza.
