I brought my cat in because he had been vomiting and nobody else could squeeze him in that day. We waited for 3 hours (mind you, I had my 1.5 year old daughter with me too as my husband is deployed & have nobody to watch her-extra fun!) for the vet to come out and tell me basically nothing, that they weren’t able to take vitals because of his temperament (hissing and scratching, YEAH he’s a sick cat, I thought that would be pretty standard). Then said they wanted to do bloodwork. Waited another half hour before someone came out and gave me an estimate for $3200 and wanted a deposit of $2400 before doing anything but advised I should not leave with my cat because he was very sick. How they would know this, I’m not sure considering they didn’t even TAKE HIS TEMPERATURE! I left with my cat after paying $200 for I guess people to just stare at him, and took him to another vet the following day. They squeezed him in and treated him for nearly 1/4 of the price for everything. INSANITY. I’ve been a pet owner my entire life and my father is a veterinarian, he told me I should leave as well. Don’t go here unless your pet is about to die and there are no other options.2 stars instead of 1 because the front desk and techs were nice.

I wish they would answer their telephone. Their automated telephone system offers no clear option for those wanting to make or check an appointment. They just dump your call.

Our baby was throwing up blood so we took her to this ER. Dr. Justine Y. was very honest letting us know she needs to do some procedures to fully determine what’s causing the vomiting of blood but can give her anti-nausea and fluid to assist with her symptoms. She recommended a few procedures but wanted to prioritize ultrasound. Unfortunately, ultrasound wasn’t available until the day shift so she recommended for us to return in the morning or sooner if symptoms worsen. Symptoms were a bit better but she was still throwing up with blood until 3 in the morning so took her back to get the ultrasound. We got there around 6:30, Dr. Justine Y. immediately came out to take care back. She informed us there’s a wait for the ultrasound but expect a call back between 9 and 10. Unfortunately, she had the night shift and was not able to follow-up but since we were given a great treatment from the night shift staff, we trusted that our baby will continue to receive good treatment. However, it was past 11 and we still haven’t heard from VCA so I called but was told the ultrasound wasn’t completed and that to just wait for their call. After 12:30, I called again as I haven’t heard from them. I was informed then that the ultrasound has been completed and that I would be receiving a call within 10-15 minutes. At 2pm, I still haven’t heard from the Vet so I drove there. Upon arrival which before 2:30, I immediately approached the front desk requesting for them to release our baby so we can take her to another vet. I was told to have a sit and wait for the doctor to call me. It’s 2:50 and I’m still waiting. They are holding our baby hostage without any assistance! This place shouldn’t exist with the way they are treating our baby. The day time front desk just told me that I should just keep waiting until the doctor is free to give me an update. Horrible!

I’ve been to a few vets on island and the doctors and staff at VCA are the best. They are compassionate and I felt very confident that my dog was getting the best care possible. I never felt rushed, things were explained to me in detail and the staff knew how to handle my dog. The last vet I went to put a muzzle on my dog just because of his size. They didn’t do that here because they know how to handle animals. I highly recommend this place.

I don't want to give less than 5 stars but my wife was just told that we have to bring our dog in for an annual checkup before being able to get an allergy shot. Mind you, he was hospitalized there for 3 days 2 weeks ago and we spent over 4 thousand dollars. This is a vet tech appointment to get his cytopoint injection that he has had a lot of times, but they will not help our dog get relief from his constant itching and gnawing of his paws. So now, we are told he has to wait until March 10th for his appointment, and maybe then can he get relief. Incredibly disappointed.

Overall pretty good experience here. I took my dog here for cancer treatment and the doctor was very honest in her diagnosis. It wasn't news I wanted to hear, but it was what I needed to hear.He is on his first round of chemo now and just be warned, it's NOT cheap. I would suggest only getting tests done that are absolutely necessary because the cost adds up fast.Overall, I feel like my dogs and y needs were taken care of here and we'll be back!

VCA Pearl City, Dr Teddy and the Onc team are the best! They are clinically excellent, caring and compassionate to their patients (my dog) and their owners. You give me the strength to be the best pet owner to my dog. Thank you b

We had to bring our senior boy in on Christmas night and found out he needed emergency surgery. Unfortunately, after needing to stay a few days, he wasnt healing and we had to make the most heart breaking decision every pet owner faces. We know the staff did everything they could to save our boy and could feel our pain and grief. They are caring and compassionate people who truely care about animals and highly recommend them for your fur baby needs.

I've been bringing my dog here for about a year since they are pretty much the only place on the island that can treat his current condition. With that being said I have had numerous appointments that have been all day appointments with a drop off time in the morning for them to conduct a variety of labs, x-rays and ultrasounds and then they would contact me in the afternoon when he was ready for pickup. The drop off time has always been between 7-8am. Well today I had another one of his all day appointments and went to drop him off at 7:45 and the assistant told me he needed to be there at 7am and that I would have to reschedule for the following week. I mentioned to her that he would be there all day and wouldn't they just be able to work him in for his labs, ultrasound, and x-ray to which see said no. Well its known to both myself and VCA that he has cancer and I am trying to get him taken care of to give him the best quality of life but I think it is pretty ridiculous that they can't get him in that day and work him in throughout the day in order for him to get the care he needs. As to what others have said about their prices I definitely agree that they are very pricey. Maybe it is because they are one of the only animal hospitals on the island so they know they can get away with it but I find it pretty absurd that myself and I am sure many others are consistently paying $1500-$2000 for some basic labs, x-rays and an ultrasound. Heck an ultrasound on a human costs nowhere near the price they are charging. You pretty much spend everything to find out what your pet has and then have no money left to spend on the treatment plan. With all that being said the staff are very friendly with our little guy and do treat him extremely well when he's there so I do have to give them at least two starts as I do think customer care and kindness is very important and if I was rating a company solely on staff's attitude VCA would get 5 stars all day long but taking care of the customer and price has to be considered when factoring in a review and based on my experience today, taking care of the customer and price is where VCA is failing.

I have struggled for weeks with how I have wanted to handle this situation and what to say about VCA. Bottom Line: over ~3 days, we spent nearly $8K for our dog to suffocate in this vet clinic surrounded by people who seemed indifferent and unable to properly care for him.Our dog, Wilson, was referred to VCA from Waipahu Waikele for an upper respiratory issue (which was suspected to be pneumonia). After reading the reviews, my spouse and I questioned if this was the best place to take Wilson, but it was recommended by our primary veterinarian and seems to be the only emergency care facility in the area (we are new to the area).Wilson spent from Nov 6-9 in VCA. He received fluids, antibiotics, and glucose monitoring (he had diabetes). The veterinarians tried an antibiotic on day 1 and another antibiotic on day 2, but this did nothing. His upper respiratory issue became worse and then stagnant (not improving or getting worse) for about 1.5 days. I cannot help but question why he was never put on oxygen (which was one of the main reasons we were referred here), and it was never questioned if he had a fungal or viral infection (especially given the fact that he was not responding to antibiotics). The day Wilson died has played over in my head for weeks. I went to see him that evening between 4-5 pm and the veterinarian and I talked about how he was doing. She mentioned that he was about the same as previous days. Later that evening around 8-9 pm, I received a call from the evening veterinarian telling me that she was concerned about Wilson and was going to put him on oxygen. Within 5 mins, I received another call from her saying he was coding. She performed CPR on Wilson for 20 mins to no avail.I have a really hard time accepting that Wilson’s condition progressed so quickly in 3-4 hours. That he went from not needing oxygen to immediately passing away when the veterinarians considered putting him on oxygen. I also find it interesting (and convenient to say the least) that he just suddenly became so much worse around shift change—the morning crew didn’t care enough to look after him and made it the evening crew’s problem. Frankly, I think they knew he wasn’t going to recover because they knew Wilson would not receive the care or attention that he deserved, and they deceived me to keep paying. I think they are understaffed, inefficient, and cold. When he passed away, I never saw another veterinarian. I didn’t receive a phone call/email/letter from the veterinarians or staff. I have had to cancel his food subscriptions and the companies have the courtesy to send a condolence message. If you have your pet cremated, the crematorium is the one that supplies you with the condolence material, not VCA. I will NEVER own another pet while I am on this island because you are paying a luxury cost for incompetent, subpar care and the people and their pets of this area deserve more than to be targeted for their money just because they live here.As a final message to the pet owners—there are a lot of reviews here about how expensive VCA is. I am fortunate enough to be someone who could afford their insane costs, but there are others who cannot. As pet owners, we want to believe we do everything we can for our pets, but I’m afraid you are very limited because of location. So, if you are in the difficult position of deciding if you can afford the care for your pet to have a 'chance' or have them put down, just know that even if you do shell out an insane amount of money, the odds that they are going to make it are slim because you are taking them to this facility. I almost beg you to be there for them as they pass versus suffocating in a cold kennel surrounded by strangers like Wilson. His last day will haunt me my whole life and I wouldn’t wish this feeling on my worst enemy. Lastly, you have the option for veterinary malpractice lawsuits (if applicable) and/or to file a complaint against the veterinarian with the Hawaii Board of Veterinary Medicine. To VCA—I am not interested in your response.

Don’t come unless it’s an emergency. Best to find veterinarian you can trust. All they want is to charge you for x-rays, and ultrasounds, the medication is overpriced. After paying my $4,300 bill for examination, one night hospitalization,x-ray , ultrasound, bloodwork and urinalysis which took 5 days to get results. They still couldn’t give me an answer about my dogs swelling on his back paw. They prescribed antibiotics and told me to come back for bandage change everyday @ $73 per change. After the fifth day they determined that my dogs toe was broken and needed to be removed. Their estimate was $ 2,300-$3100. Which could not be done right away, next available appointment was 2 weeks later I went to my veterinarian which he did the operation for 1/3 the cost 4 days later. The only reason I went to VCA was that I could not get a appointment soon enough at my regular veterinarian. Other than that the staff was nice and courteous.

My prior dog was a VCA patient at the Waimalu clinic, but our experience was not positive, so we transferred to another veterinarian. We have a new puppy and are visiting from out of state, and our regular vet had surgery and was unable to accept our dog for an emergency, so they directed us to the Waimalu clinic. I was cautious at first, but I put my furry babies' health ahead of my previous trauama experience. I am delighted to tell that Dr. Miyaski was the finest! She was meticulous, and her bedside approach was friendly and pleasant. She explained everything to us so we could understand what was wrong with our dog, and she recommended preventive and ongoing therapies. Dr. Miyazaki should be your primary care provider for your pet if you want someone to look out for their needs and care for them the way you do. We will surely pay her a visit if we are unable to attend our normal veterinarian here in Hawaii. Dr. Miyazaki, thank you for your talent and kindness while we were stressed after returning from a flight to Hawaii with our dog. You put us at ease and gave us the impression that our worries were being handled.

On my original review I cited good service, clean facilities & good Doctors but price was high! Well in retrospect it's like the old saying "you get what you pay for". These guys are worth every penny! Dr. Lam that did the surgery for our puppy was a Champ! Great care doesn't come cheap anywhere so I highly recommend VCA if your pet is in need of serious care!

The night veterinarian on staff along with his assistants were very helpful in stitching my dog after he was bitten by another dog. Thank you all!
