Great location but for the price you can find other great options. The electric went out for 2 days and thankfully they agreed to offer a refund but they’re very strict about their no cancelation or modification policy. The rooms are very dated and could use a deep cleaning… shower has good water pressure though! It’s easy to walk around to the store and the cafe. The food was good at the cafe.

Rooms = bungalows, that I found charming & comfortable. Short walk to everything; Restaurant & General Store (has liquor), volcano crater, woods, tennis/pickleball court, internet & TV. If you want isolation & relaxation this is a Great PlaceRooms: Individual bungalows with fridge & kitchenettes. Nicely furnished - fireplace.Safety: It is a Military installation, with military conduct & rules... and personnel. Trails are paved & unpaved - precipitous cliffsWalkability: Sidewalks, paved & unpaved hiking trails. Compound looked wheelchair friendly to me. Plenty of parking near scenic overlooks. But paths to overlooks not all paved, wheelchair friendly

LOVE Kilauea Military Camp, rich in US Army history. You must be a DOD ID card holder or a Veteran with ID Card to Reserve a cabin. Highly recommend Chain of Craters Road, Lava Tube experience, all hiking trails, suffer beds, and Kilauea Crater.Rooms: Cabins are all equipped with heater and fireplace. 2, 3, 5, 6 & 7 BR's come with full kitchen+kitchen ware. Single Cottages have a microwave & and a small fridge.

Very wonderful experience staying here for our wedding and honeymoon. What a fantastic experience to stay on the edge of Kilauea! We even had some tiny earthquakes which was cool. Our cottage was great. We LOVED the jetted tub. Definitely recommend getting a kitchen though if staying for a while. I do have to say that if you have back problems the bed is quite hard so plan accordingly. Towels and linens are very nice. Otherwise comfortable and everything else you’d need. Laundromat worked great! The general store has pretty much anything you’d need and it’s quite handy having gas and restaurants right there too. They are understaffed so we had trouble getting through on the phones. Just keep trying or email them. The office is staffed 24/7 so you can go in and ask for stuff too. All the employees we encountered were friendly and helpful! Food is inexpensive and good variety. Pool tables and bowling were fun too. We appreciated being able to rent beach equipment right there too. Lots of places to walk and hang out. Beautiful Ohi’a trees everywhere. We are very happy with our experience and can’t wait to come back!

What a wonderfully relaxing place! A wide range of lodging options, friendly staff, and amenities; including a bar, cafe, mini-market and even a bowling alley make KMC a must visit for those who can.

Awesome resource for military beneficiaries. Non-military can use it as long as sponsored by a military beneficiary. It is located inside Volcanoes National Park. Besides the cabins, they also have open bay dorm style accommodations for group trips. Staff members are friendly and helpful.

We stayed for two nights as we made our way around the Big Island seeing the sites. Had a cozy one bedroom cottage with a sofa sleeper. Being retired Army, I thought the accomodations were pretty good as I have lived and slept in far worse conditions in my time. That said, the cottage could use some freshening up with some updates to make it a more pleasurable experience. Even though we didn't use it, loved the fireplace in the room. We had dinner twice and I thought for the price it was a pretty good deal. General store was well stocked and nice to have a self-serve laundry so we could do a load while were there. Location was unbeatable - lovely walk past the flagpole and on the crater rim trail. Having a self-serve gas station available was very convienent. Check in and check out was smooth with very nice staff. All in all an enjoyable stay that we'll remember for some time.Walkability: Located right next to the crater rim trail - walk across the road from the Camp. Enjoyable walking around the Camp - not much traffic.

I’m updating this review. At The Kilauea Military Camp, the food at the cafe was awful and they had barely any good choices for the buffet portion of the cafe but the only good food in the cafe was from the kid's menu. I hated the texture of the food and how it was cooked. The food in the buffet tasted like it was frozen for way to long and finally brough out now to be cooked. When me and my family first arrived in our house/condo it looked like there was blue and green mold on the flooring. We weren't sure if it was mold or not but there were definitely unidentifiable stains all over the flooring and furniture. The TV they were provide looked like a relic from the 1930's and it was very difficult to watch because I am sight challenged. There was an unidentifiable smell in the refrigerator it wasn’t even stocked with anything we had to buy our own food from the market that was inside the compound, and the food inside the market is pretty expensive. It is impossible to see at nighttime I tripped and almost fell at least 5 times because there was barely any lighting on the outside, they only have tiny lanterns Infront of already lit buildings and very little streetlamps and lanterns spread out throughout the property. The pull-out sofa bed was very stiff, and I got scratched at least 10 times on my foot and arm because of my height. The sheets and bed also smelled like crap and when I went to go test out a bed to see if it was more comfortable it was even stiffer than the pull-out sofa bed. The laundry mat had outdated laundry machines and the only thing they had that actually looked nice in the laundry mat was one stainless steel dryer. The recreation area was pretty fun though with the bowling alley, pool, food, and even arcade games. Although the recreation area was pretty nice the Arcade machines were pretty expensive. Some of the arcade machines costed 50 cents just to play, pool costed $1 in quarters, and there was even this truck driving game that didn’t even do anything but steal people’s quarters. I think the only thing I like about this place was the recreation hall.

Not really sure how the rating is so great but I’d say the only excellent characteristic is the location (which is absolutely unbeatable). But for the price you can get much nicer outside of the park.Rooms: Very outdated and dirtyNearby activities: You are in volcano NP. That can’t be beat.
