We loved this rain forest hideaway. There is no A/C but we went in February so temps were mild and it was quite comfy. We actually used the gas stove in the mornings to warm up. It was super romantic and cozy. Stayed in the Mauna Kea room which was a great size for 2 adults. Really loved the ambiance and location. So convenient to go to VNP. Staff was very responsive. Would definitely stay again.Nearby activities: Volcano National Park is less than 15 minute drive.Safety: The area was nice and felt safe.Walkability: Lodge is not really within walking distance of other places.Food & drinks: Lodge provides breakfast the day before and you can heat it up in the morning on your own schedule which was great if you want to get a quick start to your morning to go hiking/exploring. Kīlauea General Store is nearby. We went there on our way to the park and got fresh-made sandwiches and snacks to take to the park for picnic lunch. So good and convenient and saved $$$$. There are several restaurants nearby for dinner options but make sure to get there before 8pm as things close early in town.

We stayed in the Haleakala cabin which was super private and set in a beautiful garden like location. The room was very comfortable with a good amount of space. It has an open, airy feeling with windows all around looking into the forest. The staff was very attentive and provided a very nice breakfast and made a personalized meal for a special diet. We spent some time in the hot tub which was clean and warm. The location was perfect, only a few minutes from Volcano National Park. We highly recommend Volcano Village Lodge.

Both the accommodations and everyone in the lodge are spectacular. Coming from the city, living in the heart of the forest was very special. Waking up everyday to the sounds of the birds and the silhouettes of the trees made my day! John is especially welcoming and will go over and above to make you feel at home.

We loved our stay at Volcano Village Lodge! We stayed in the Hale Kilauea room and loved every second of it. Lisa was so accommodating and helpful when it came to suggestions for food and things to see. So close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park! The breakfast everyday was DELICIOUS and such a great way to start our day. The property is lush, private and really set into the jungle. Can't recommend this property enough!

This was our first trip to the big Island and I am very happy we chose Volcano Village Lodge. Our main goal was to see Volcano National Park and you could not get closer to the entrance unless you stay inside the park. The property is so lush and beautiful. The jungle is so dense around each lodge you have complete privacy with amazing views everywhere you look. We were contacted a few days prior to going to the lodge by staff. She wanted to know if we had any needs for our stay, in room or dietary. My wife explained that we are both lactose intolerant, and they made sure we had non dairy creamer for coffee and our daily breakfast was made with oat milk. The coffee was also great. They provide a full size 12 cup coffee maker in room with the best fresh ground Kona coffee every morning. The town of Hilo, Black sand beach, and some amazing waterfalls are also a short drive. when you fly in I would recommend flying into Hilo, it's under an hour to drive. Kona airport is about a 2 hour + drive.

We stayed in Hale Kilauea and we had an outstanding stay. We enjoyed the hot tub and especially enjoyed the large selection of DVDs (nothing high tech here, which we kind of liked!) and complimentary hot chocolate, popcorn, and other snacks. The room itself was beautiful and had a nice private view of the rain forest out the center window. We could see the other couple buildings out our left windows (you're not as secluded as the website looks), so we kept our shades closed most of the time for privacy, however, the shades are not completely opaque (when the shades need to be replaced eventually, I'd suggest making them fully opaque).I suggest bringing an eye mask and some earplugs to make your stay in hawaii more enjoyable, as most places throughout the islands do not have room darkening curtains (just get up at sunrise!) and you can often hear coqui frogs (they sound like someone saying "cookie") and other animals. You get used to it though.A couple current issues for improvement, but did not impact our stay significantly: WiFi did not work. It would work for about 10 seconds and then stop working for a few minutes. Very inconsistent. It seemed like they were newly renovating their WiFi system though and it wasn't fully online yet, so hopefully that improves drastically. Also, the pillows were too thick for me and propped my neck at a weird angle, resulting in a sore neck. Our bathroom also had a leaky showerhead, but we didn't really think anything of it. We just removed the wand and placed in on the floor of the shower to prevent it from making noise.Nearby activities: Volcanoes National Park is about 5 minutes drive away.Walkability: You can't really walk anywhere as the lodge is far away from anything you'd want to go to. As you drive, you'll see people walking their dog on the street, but that's about it.Food & drinks: I wasn't expecting much from the description of the breakfast on the website, but I was blown away by the quality and tasty food we received. You reheat them in your microwave, but they were tasty! We had breakfast burrito, a quiche, and french toast for our three breakfasts. The french toast was tasty but not as filling and energizing as the others. I'd suggest adding something to go with the french toast for some added protein.

Although picturesque and charming, it was also death by a thousand paper cuts, which is why I give it 3.5 stars. Considering the price, the cons should not exist. Tip: the birds and frogs are very loud so if it bothers you, definitely bring ear plugs Pros... and their cons: -beautiful surroundings, but you can't walk around the property, so the beauty is only what you can see from your room -super soft bed, but the second bed is extremely noisy and rickety -friendly staff, but no way to give them the gratuity or key if you check out before opening hours -close to the National park, but the neighborhood is rough -down the street from a few restaurants and a market, but the food and service was awful, and it's more like road trip pit stop -hot tub and towels provided, but there was a lot of dirt in it and you couldn't use the jets because water would spray out of the tub because parts were broken -large and beautiful bathroom, but only one small mirror and my 6' husband was a head taller than the top and couldn't see himself unless he crouched down -fireplace, but the fan on it is incredibly loud Pro: robes, awesome breakfasts, extra pillows and blankets, lanai

I don't have the words to describe want an amazing experience it was to stay here. When I first arrived, I was met by staff member Lisa. Lisa is a gem! She is so friendly and kind and took a couple of minutes to get to know me and offered all sorts of wonderful advice on food, sights and what to expect. She is a darling. The room / lodge that I stayed in was magical. It was warm and inviting, clean, cozy and comfortable. It really felt like home away from home. The staff checked in with me regularly to ensure that I had everything I needed. I didn't catch the lady's name that checked me out upon leaving, but she was wonderful too. The breakfast provided each morning was so good!!! It is made fresh daily and left in your fridge and only takes a moment to heat up. Best breakfast I had in Hawaii hands down. I loved the ambiance of my room. The rainforest noises were gentle and soothing. I loved the porch too, I would sit and enjoy my morning coffee there. I would stay here again 100%. Thank you to the staff for one of the most enjoyable stays I have ever had

An absolutely beautiful spot - in the rainforest, secluded, romantic, and so close to Volcanoes National Park (easy to drive and enjoy the night time talks - check the park schedule). There is also a super relaxing hot tub that can be accessed by any guest (not connected to a specific unit).I love night noises so the frogs + rain was perfect.both mornings of breakfast was absolutely delicious - even when simply warmed in the microwave. This was a fantastic spot. We would for sure stay here if we were to return to the Big IslandNearby activities: Volcanoes National Park. check schedule of night time talks as it is so close!Food & drinks: pickup dinner at Tuk Tuk's thai food truck at the end of the main road...add a bottle of wine you picked up at Volcano winery and you will have a fantastic dinner in your room!

We loved our time at Volcano Village Lodge! It felt like our own private cabin in the rainforest. It was exactly what was advertised, so cute, and very romantic. It was what we wanted - to feel immersed in nature as you look out your window onto bamboo trees and hear the frogs at night. The distance to Volcanos National Park is a huge bonus, the breakfast was very yummy, and the staff was so helpful and sweet. The only minor thing was that the pillows were very thick, so if you are not used to that, it was a little uncomfortable. However, we were so pleased with everything else there that we did not even consider this a huge deal. We hope to visit again!

Cool vibe and literally 10 minutes from Volcano National Park. Excellent and friendly service. You are basically staying in the rain forest. If being serenaded by tree frogs as you fall asleep is your thing, or if limited internet access is a feature and not a bug, Volcano Village Lodge is your jam.

This is a rustic lodge. We loved our stay here. We had breakfast daily. And it was yummy and filling. Our lodge was a decent size. We did share the bathroom with a spider. Didn't have it in me to kill it. She stayed on her web the entire stay so we got along. Don't look under the bed-lots of dust bunnies. The grounds are pretty. And you hear the frogs (coqui) sing at night. But really, I would return. Everyone here was friendly and helpful.

This place is extremely unique and beautiful. I will only stay here when I stay in Volcano. The food was amazing and the rooms were almost an immersive experience. Adam was the best and very kind :)
