Waialua General Store is a beloved local spot known for its fresh and delicious food, especially its poke. Visitors often highlight the high quality of the ingredients and the skill in transforming them into flavorful dishes. The Shoyu Ahi poke is frequently praised as one of the best on the island, with many recommending to skip the rice and just enjoy the poke and BBQ chicken by the pound. The store offers a variety of poke options, including favorites like Kaarie—a blend of ahi, cucumbers, imitation crab meat, and avocado with spicy sauce—as well as Sweet Areya Oyster Poke and Shoyu Poke. Alongside poke, the store features Filipino dishes such as chicken adobo, chow fun, pancit, and the sweet cascaron, a Filipino donut made of deep-fried ground glutinous rice, grated coconut, and sugar, which makes for a great dessert. The friendly aunties behind the counter are known for their kindness and generosity, often offering samples to customers. The atmosphere is warm and family-like, with positive energy and aloha vibes from staff. The store is tucked away in a small strip mall behind the Waialua Public Library but is considered a must-visit on the North Shore for anyone craving top-quality poke and Filipino food. Whether for lunch or dinner, Waialua General Store consistently earns high praise for its tasty food and welcoming environment.
