We have stayed at the Fairmont Orchid twice and have a trip planned for later in 2024. It's rare to go back to the same hotel 2 or 3 times but there is something that feels spacious enough that we have not wanted to go elsewhere. On our last trip we found a new, great amenity and that was to rent a 2 person Cabana for the last day of your stay since check out time is 11 and most flights back to the mainland leave in the evening, the 6 hours or so is sooo pleasant in the cabana. You can relax, shower, eat, change etc for mush less than the price of a room!

UPDATE: Barbie the Director of Quality took prompt action. She came down to visit us at dinner to apologize and check on us. She also took care of our daybed reservation the following day, which I really appreciate . All together this stay was alright. I do not believe that this is a 5-star hotel. The rooms have thin walls, we could constantly hear people opening and closing their doors it the hallway and hear kids running around above us. The towels given at the pool were stained/dirty (yellow and rust stains). The bathroom wasn't super clean. I don't believe this hotel meets the standards of a 5 star, maybe 4 or 3.5. The best part of the stay was most of the staff (besides the front desk the first day) and the LeLabo soaps. Everyone is friendly, nice, and welcoming. Shout out to the bellmen and waitress at Binchotan. 2/5 rating: Currently staying at this hotel and had a very poor start to this vacation - specifically the check in process. At 12:09 I call the hotel to see if we can check in early, the nice receptionist said "yes, if you come now we can expedite the room to be ready."She even asked me how far away from the hotel we were. As if she was going to make sure the room was ready when we arrived. We check in at 12:30 and we're told that our room will be ready soon and to wait around and they will text us. At 2:30..still no text, I went up to the front desk to inquire on status and the employee responded with "yeah we're busy. It's not ready yet" not until 3:15 were texted that our room was ready. Complete waste of time. I understand that it was an early check in but we would have really appreciate transparency, so we didn't spend almost 3 hours just sitting in the lobby expecting the room to be ready "soon". We'll see how the rest of this stay goes.

Great experience and service! I booked through Expedia. My husband dropped me off to check in, lovely welcome fresh orchid leis. To my surprise when we were checking in we got upgraded to Fairmont Gold. (BONUS)! We were escorted to the Fairmont Gold wing, which had its own concierge. Included breakfast and canapés. When we checked in we were offered some bubble. We were then shown to our room. Room was spacious and very clean. Large bathroom with both shower and tub. Balcony was also spacious we faced the garden with a pickaboo of the ocean. Bed was delightful, house keeping was on top of everything, and would come by at night to see if we needed anything else or if we were gone, turndown the room. Nice little touches. Overall the service was amazing!!!! If we needed anything or help staff went above and beyond. The resort itself was nice, I wish they had a bigger pool, nice calm private beach, amazing sun sets, great options for food several restaurants and cafe. The resort also had shops. I used the gym numerous times it's pretty good but to my surprise always super busy, even at 5am!!! We had a fantastic time, we love the Fairmont it's pricey but with the upgrade felt it was worth it. There is a $47 resort fee per day, which I thought was a lot.

This is visually the most beautifully landscaped hotel I've ever stayed at. Obviously, a lot of money and effort is spent on the beautiful landscape, flowers, and walking paths. The paths are designed to maximize the space by creating circular routes that have you pass by waterfalls, pools, bridges, manicured lawns, and exotic flowers and vegetation. We were at the hotel with a group tour arranged by Carousel Travel, in conjunction with a local TV show, "Twin Cities Live." As part of the package, we had access to an very good breakfast buffet that included eggs, fresh fruit, granola cereal, bagels, and a variety of breads. Our room overlooked the lush gardens and we heard the sound of the waterfall every night, which was very pleasant. The noise from the open patio door was minimal. The room itself was very nice, but not luxurious. They did give us an excellent metal, insulated thermos to use (and keep). The thermos could be filled via various bottle filling stations with excellent, cold water. Eating options at the hotel included a variety of restaurants and snack areas, although all options were very expensive. We did not eat at any of these restaurants for dinner. However, we ate a few lunches at Brown's Deli, which was expensive and meh in terms of quality. The highlight of this hotel definitely are the grounds. If you want to spend a lot of time at the hotel in the sun, this would be a great place to do it. If you are looking for better value, in terms of room and food, I'd seek out other options.

Very pretty hotel and beach. Had couples massage was very relaxing. The hotel lets you use snorkel gear and the beach area had turtles very close by and lots of fish.

Probably nit picking here. Grounds are beautiful. Rooms were nice. Ordered room service one night and had bit of a mis adventure (ordered 2 poke bowls and they only brought one and then when they finally brought the other they didn't bring soy sauce). Main issue is with the "partial ovean view" room. Partial is being generous. If you are 6'3" and crane your neck while leaning out over balcony you can maybe see a sliver of water in the distance. See video. I do not consider this partial ovean view. I've had partial ocean view at other resorts and could readily see the ocean unlike here.

I stayed for one night with my bulldogs. Got a great garden room. Very convenient for my dogs to walk pee and poop. The service from the valet bellman front desk agents and room service people were amazing. Always cheerful polite and kind. Very welcoming to my dogs. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family

I spent a couple of nights at the Fairmont Orchid for my birthday. I chose this resort because it looks like paradise in the photos, I love the Fairmont brand, and I wanted a relaxing and quiet place to stay before staying a few nights in town. The Fairmont Orchid is fairly overpriced, even for a Fairmont. We went with the Gold upgrade so we could justify some of the price with a decent breakfast and pupus in the early evening. The food in the Gold Lounge was great, as was the service. Alcohol is not free in the lounge - they have an "honor bar" which I dutifully signed every time even though I observed several guests who did not. Otherwise, the bars are $$$, basically 2 mai tai's plus tip will cost you roughly $50. So if you enjoy having a couple of drinks at the pool, I highly recommend stopping at an ABC store before arriving. We didn't have a car so found the resort to be a little isolated. My main issue with the resort was the inconsistency with the quality of food. We ate at 3 of the restaurants and overall, I just can't really recommend any of them. The gift shops had some fabulous clothes, but I'm not gonna spend $500+ on a resort wear dress. The pool is good, I don't think it's heated, but I appreciate that there is a cordoned off area for adults. We were going to rent a cabana but they were so incredibly overpriced, I just couldn't bring myself to do it (there were only 2 of us). The holiday hula history/presentation was excellent (December 15). Overall, I really liked aspects of this resort but for me it was a one and done.

I went to the pool and there was no sign saying no kids on one side and they came over to my daughter a teenager and they said she can't be in here because she might touch the damn plants! Like geez she was siting down talking with me not splashing or yelling and they said to get out the pool and embarrassed her.

A great oceanside resort to relax and unwind for a low-key vacation. This resort is part of the Fairmont chain and if you've stayed at others it is a bit unique from the chateaus you might have experienced prior. The grandeur is there but through a Hawaiian lens. The resort can get a little pricey. It's a Fairmont afterall. It is located about 30ish minutes outside of Kona and is about the only thing in the general vicinity. There is a small shopping area with a grocery and coffee shop which serves breakfast and lunch items which are about 1 mile away and walkable. Otherwise, I would highly consider having a rental car for your trip here. There appears to be a Hertz office on site for assistance if you decide to forgo renting one at the airport. There were quite a few children at the resort when we went. Not much of a problem but if you're highly averse to relaxing with children around be warned. We didn't have any problem being able to relax by the pool and enjoy the ocean breeze and refreshments from the pool restaurant. There is a great pool or an ocean lagoon option for sunning and swimming. They provide some snorkeling and water recreation rentals for the ocean as well. The resort itself is in a need of a facelift to be honest. It is showing its wear and tear and could definitely use a little TLC upgrading. We were told that there is a plan place to do just that during 2024 in multiphase approach. This is why I give it 4 stars at the moment. The restaurants on site were all great. We did the breakfast buffet 1x because it really isn't worth the price. Do room service or Brown's Deli. Brown's Beach House was really amazing with great food and views of ocean. The Luana Lounge has great drinks and amazing looking sushi. There is bartender at the Japanese restaurant (Jessica) who is one of the best and most knowledgeable bartenders I have ever come across. Check her out and ask her about some interesting whiskey history. Drinks across the resort average $15-$20+ each depending on your taste. Food items depend on the outlet/restaurant and are generally priced at what you'd expect for a Fairmont. Overall it was pretty nice experience and provided some much needed recharging and relaxing. I would consider returning but will wait probably until after the updates and see if the facelift has improved some of its features and signs of age.

Booked my 3rd trip there last Feb., and just got back last night. If I could stay anywhere in the world for a week, this is THE place. From the great service, beautiful grounds and oceanfront property, it is the BEST! You can read all the other reviews to see how great it is. Of course, the food is super expensive, but that is to be expected. I wanted to give a special thank you to Maxine at the front desk,. Super helpful, and very accommodating. All the other staff is outstanding also. I will return if possible. You will fall in love with this "slice of paradise!"
