The techs don't care about the concerns of the patient. The physician's assistant blames mishaps on the patient, including things out of the patient's control. You can't voice your private concerns to the doctor because everyone is out in the open on the clinic floor and within earshot of each other. The vascular surgeons don't care about the emotional, social or psychological trauma of an AVF placement. The nurses are only empathetic to your face, yet they never stand up for the patients rights and their most genuine concerns when it matters most. The nurse practitioner talks down to you in a very condescending and belittling manner. The social workers are required to do regular quality of teatment questionnaires, and yet, the patients can't answer them honestly and truthfully without the horrible UNOS system clocking every little "complaint" as a compliance issue counting against the possibility of a future transplant surgery. I wish for nothing but everlasting agony on each and every one of the staff at this facility. Until then, the only logical way around this would be for dialysis technology to finally catch up with the 21st century. ESRD has been put on the backburner of the medical community for far too long, and until something changes then it's going to be impossible for all dialysis patients to live a good quality of life with ESRD.

My husband was REALLY hoping to avoid dialysis. As unhappy as he was with needing it, the staff at DaVita have really made the whole process as painless as possible. I have gone to all of his appointments with him. His assigned nurse, Jennifer, is wonderful. She has trained us on all the aspects of doing in-home dialysis. Each month, hubby meets with a whole team that includes the doctor, a nutritionist and a social worker to make sure everything is going well. Regular testing and medication adjustments keep him on track. They have a top-notch program. All the supplies are delivered to our home and the stock is rotated by the delivering associate. He has also been a delight to work with. Hubby had an issue with his dialysis tube one day, and they were able to squeeze us in to get it corrected. Does anybody really want to be on dialysis? Probably not. But thank goodness that kidney failure is something that can be treated these days! This clinic is not the closest one to our house, but it feels like home to us.
