DO NOT TAKE YOUR STUFF HERE: I took in a travel golf bag that I flew with once and Delta Airlines ripped off the outer strap. I purchased the new plastic clips and brought them in. I took off the old ones myself. I needed 2 new clips and to reenforce the stitching to make sure it wouldn't rip in the future. This is 1 pass with a commercial sewing machine. I was told it was $190.00. The bag itself costs $149.98. I left and verified what something like this should cost from competitors. This is a $25 job, that would take no less than 15-20 minutes. I then bought extra strength thread and used my own sewing machine to do this. It took me (who has no idea what I am doing less than 30 minutes to complete it). I am all in for the plastic clips, thread under $15 for materials. This is robbery, price gauging, and most off terrible ethics. How many others have been ripped off by this place? Don't just agree with someone who tells you what something costs. Do your homework. Do not do business with them. How can 1 pass with a sewing machine on a simple strap for a travel golf bag cost that much. They are terrible.

I really wanted to love Guate Upholstery, but unfortunately I am disappointed. I dropped off a vintage leather Eames office chair to get the worn out arms replaced. I had gotten quotes from other upholsters who explained it was a complicated job and quoted me quite a high price. When I reached out to Guate for a quote, it was a fraction of the cost of the others. There was a bit of a language barrier, but I wasn’t too worried because all the other upholsterers had all said the same things to me about the specific seams and type of leather. So I assumed it would be obvious to anyone skilled in upholstery. I explained what I wanted done and he was quite agreeable. He also seemed quite competent and eager to work on it. Oddly, he had me fill out my information on the work order and gave me my copy without and itemized quote for the work or even a description of the item. That should have been a red flag for me. He initially said it would be a few weeks but surprisingly, he got it done in 6 days. I was out of town, so I had to wait a few days to pick it up. When I dropped in to pick it up, it was explained to me that it was offsite and unavailable for pickup until later. When I was able to pick up it was clear why the quote had been so low and done so quickly. Ultimately the work is acceptable; the arms were replaced in black leather with a piped edge as I had requested. The leather wasn’t an exact match, but it’s not unreasonable considering the age difference between the original.
What really disappointed me though was the lack of care in the detail work of the piece. The piping along the top of the chair arms originally had nearly invisible French-seams tucked into the back of the arm. The seams on this reupholstery job are placed randomly and the piping seam is raw-edged. Because it’s a chair I use everyday, I immediately noticed it. This is a chair that retails new at over $5k. If I was ever to resell the chair, I would need to get this upholstery job fixed by a professional. At the end of the day it will work, and the arms are much better than they were when I brought it in and I paid a lot less than I would have from one of the other shops. But I would not recommend Guate for high-end detailed work. If you are looking for an acceptable upholstery job at a rock-bottom price, this is the shop for you. But for your valuable or heirloom pieces; stick to the pros; they’re worth the extra cost.

The quality of their work is top notch. Customer service is over the top. And their prices are very reasonable. We found a small cut in 1 of the seats of our kitchen stools leather. They reupholstered the seat and when we showed a picture of an extremely small flaw on the back of another chair. They wanted to redo it also. I thought the flaw was so small it would not cause a problem but wanted them to know if we had problems in the future with it. These guys are fabulous.

Re Upolstered the leather seat bottoms in my 2006 Sequoia. The color match, the material quality, and the workmanship is superb. All at a very fair price.

We needed repairs on an 18 year old Benchcraft leather sectional. I reached out to local upholstery shops and they referred me to Guate Upholstery. Luis was responsive and communicated clearly via text, making an appointment to see the pieces in person before making an estimate. He replaced the cracked vinyl -match on the chaise with leather matching the original bomber jacket finish, built up the seat there and on the corner section with new foam and repaired the recliner switch on a third piece. The cost was far less than replacing the sectional, including the charge to pick up and deliver the pieces. The work was also completed in just a couple of days when we expected at least a week. We will use Guate Upholstery again and recommend them to others needing leather or vinyl furniture repairs.

Luiz was very responsive and helpful. I had an outdoor patio sofa and club chairs. I was able to bring in the Sunbella fabric I purchased and they did a great job creating all new cushions including outdoor foam inserts, at a good price. I would definitely use them again.
