I think Optix Media epitomizes the inept Rexburg work ethic and incompetence more than any company, customer service rep, or organization I've had the displeasure of being in contact with during my time in this town. I have been forced to use Optix for the past 2 years. It's the same story in every college town. All the housing complexes go with the cheapest possible option with no regard for how it will affect their residents. This leads to the small town ISP being the "best" and only option, forming a monopoly, and completely eliminating the incentive for the ISP to provide any kind of quality service.Right out of the gate, Optix's "security measures" prevented me from being able to use any Google Home devices, play games online without lag due to their strict NAT type, and provided a constantly iffy wifi signal with an absolute peak of 30mbps (it usually hovered more in the 0.5-10 range).Optix only offered wifi at my complex, and had installed 2 access points for 4 apartments that were barely putting out a signal that can reach from one side of the building to another. After getting through to customer service, they told me that my landlord would have to pay for Optix's self-caused problem. Over the course of 6 months I worked with my landlord to hound Optix over and over again until they mustered the willpower to come and hook up one of the ethernet ports in my apartment (which were already in every room), at which point I went from getting about 10 mbps download on a good day to a true fiber optic 1000mbps connection. It was fabulous, and, despite probably 15 outages during a 6 month period (this is comparable to how many we'd have in a week before), I haven't had to think about Optix since. Then, two days ago, Optix came by to do "upgrades". I left a note for their tech explaining that they absolutely MUST leave the ethernet connection online because we rely for our jobs on a good connection that doesn't cut out multiple times a day and offer a trickle of download speed under load. They didn't even come into our apartment (failed to show up during 3+ hours including the 2 hour window they themselves had provided) and have still managed to go to all the work of disconnecting my ethernet line. This is a shockingly impressive level of incompetence. Unless someone's errant hand "snipped" the connection, an intentional decision was made after seeing the ethernet port that had been hooked up and choosing to disable it.I now have to go through the arduous process of hounding my landlord and Optix's customer service again just to be able to get one ethernet port working with all our income on the line as we deal with the access points they must have dug out of a pile at DI (to their credit it only took 5 phone calls and 3 work days). When they set up my ethernet port originally, they said they'd be back in two weeks to install new access points. It took over 6 months.Landlords of Rexburg: WE DO NOT WANT TO LIVE ANYWHERE WITH OPTIX. "High-speed internet service included" has become associated with a scam in my mind when I see it listed as a perk on an apartment's website. Optix provides unfathomably terrible service and does not care about their customers. If I had known that I was being forced into an internet monopoly with abysmal internet service, I would not have chosen to live where I do despite all the other perks of my apartment complex, which has been great otherwise. Our livelihood and yours (and your ability to do homework) depends on having a good internet connection and it is not worth living somewhere where Optix is the ISP. The fact that they have a 1.4 star rating is a testament to their inability to provide anything resembling a quality product. I intend to tell everyone I know to avoid living anywhere that "includes" Optix internet service, and I encourage everyone else frustrated with Optix to do the same and hound their landlords about it. This is the only way things will change, because r

Wish I could rate 0/5 honestly. Terrible WIFI, I have to use my hotspot to complete assignments even after multiple calls about the terrible WIFI. Never use this company they should go out of business.

The most unreliable internet around town. They have had to come to our complex to “look at equipment” more than 3 times in the last 4 months. At this point update the equipment!

Internet is very inconsistent and cuts in and out all the time. Great speeds when connected, but it will just randomly turn off for 2 minutes and then turn back on

By far the worst internet I’ve ever had. They have sent multiple technicians out and still haven’t fixed the problem. It doesn’t seem like they’ll ever fix what’s wrong and I know they are throttling the speed of the internet too. I wouldn’t recommend this internet provider to anyone.

I run a hotel and whenever we have an outage (very rarely) we are always back up within the hour!Fast internet and fantastic customer service! 100% the best internet provider in Southeast Idaho.

I suppose my experience is a massive outlier, but I was just so impressed. I have had Optix three or four times, usually in single student housing, and had periodic problems that I've had with every other internet provider, but never anything serious. We just moved in to community housing where the managers, previous tenants, and maintenance workers were unable to help me resolve my internet issues. I sent an email to Optix customer service feeling pessimistic after trying for a very grueling week to resolve my own internet issues (research, asking for outside help, purchasing various cables/routers, etc), and they gave me an immediate resolution within about 2 hours of contacting them. They were the first people to give me substantial answers and help, and so far my internet is working great.

Absolutely terrible. You would think that they would try to provide good internet especially in a college town, but it is horrendous. I can’t even log into my accounts, I can’t stream, I can’t play games. Worst internet ever

Company is dog water doo doo. Just utter trash, they are responsible for most of the internet in Rexburg and its trash everywhere. Waited 3 months to get new access points in our apartment complex that was suppose to solve a lot of the ping problems I have while gaming only to find out I cant do anything from the hours of 5pm-1am without having 300+ ping...And its super inconsistent, I'll have fine ping(70-100 typical for rexburg) during peak times while I am at Northpoint and Windsor Manor but when I get home and connect to ethernet my ping is always sitting at 300-350. Just super disappointed

Even if I wasn’t even paying a cent for this wifi, I’d still feel like I’m getting ripped off. The fact that anyone at this company thinks their service is remotely reliable is laughably pathetic

Internet constantly doesn’t work and we have to call at least once a week, but they don’t even fix it. If I could get a different internet provider I would in a heartbeat

So slow. Sometimes just doesn’t work at all. It takes twice as long to watch a movie because it stops to buffer every 20 seconds.

If I could leave a 0 star review I would. My husband and I have to call to reset the router almost every week because it’s not in out apartment. The Wi-Fi only works in 1 room in our apartment and even then it’s only 2 bars at most. The first time we called the guy knew exactly what to do. The Wi-Fi worked fine until the next week. The second who helped us seemed like he didn’t know what he was doing so we told him to just reset the router. Again the Wi-Fi worked completely fine until a couple days later. This has been an ongoing cycle.

Pretty bad customer service experience and terrible internet service providers. For weeks now I've been having intermittent internet outages and slow internet speeds often not able to load any web pages or get any work or school work done. Everytime I call they say it will be fixed and never is. They had a tech come out to my apartment and he replaced an axis point but I guess the replacement never worked so we had to wait another couple of days and a tech never showed up and the issue is still there. They always talk about disabling all the apartment complexes routers but never do which is what they put the blame on for the slow speeds but they never fix that issue or look into anything. Honestly next apartment or home I move into will be heavily influenced on if I have to deal with optix anymore they are very unprofessional and don't seem to be able to get anything done.

The reviews speak for themselves. If you live in a complex that provides optix internet, please do not be fooled by the “fiber” advertisement. You might as well get dial up if you want better performance. There is something about the system that cannot fully function properly and when you ask the csr’s, they can’t answer it—but they will tell you the service is extremely limited in the complex’s they provide for. If you are a gamer or have a family that uses multiple devices at once, I can assure you you’re experience will be terrible. Their service does not allow for anything better than a moderate nat type. Your gaming experience (even hard wired) will be atrocious. I wish I could speak better of this service but it is the worst I’ve ever seen.
