“As a thriller and romance author, I spend a lot of time researching gear and planning expeditions, and Tri-State Outfitters is one of the most unique outdoor stores in the region.

This place is a major destination because it combines a full outdoor outfitter with an Ace Hardware in the same building. It’s a rare setup that works incredibly well. I can stop in to pick up expedition supplies and then grab hardware for projects at the same time.

I’ve purchased freeze-dried food here for my expeditions, and they also carry a huge range of outdoor snacks that are perfect for hiking and climbing trips. The fishing section is excellent, and their selection of firearms and ammunition is impressive as well.

One thing that really stands out is the massive selection of hiking boots and outdoor shoes. It’s one of the best selections in the area if you spend time outdoors.

They also carry interesting regional books. I’ve picked up prospecting guides, gold panning books, and hiking books here over the years. It’s fun browsing through the shelves and finding something new.

The staff is always helpful and the store is surprisingly big once you start exploring it. Between the outdoor gear, fishing supplies, footwear, books, and the Ace Hardware side of the store, it’s really an incredible place.

If you live in the Palouse or are heading into the outdoors around Idaho and eastern Washington, this store is absolutely worth stopping into.”
