Truly unique experience. Great host. Marvelous bits of antiquity, with modern kitchens and baths. Perfect for a magical getaway!Safety: This is a real castle, with somewhat regular spiral stairs and stone floors. Not an ADA-style property.Noteworthy details: So many cool details, like the dragon that breathes steam.

Had a great time staying at the Chateau with family over the holidays. The large fireplace makes for a nice, cozy atmosphere to come back to after being out in the snow as well as the indoor hot tub. The architecture is beautiful and the collection of antiques is fun to see. Can’t wait to come back again!

I just had the pleasure of staying in the Chateau for 5 days, while skiing Schweitzer. The place is beautiful, clean and (in the best possible way) very unique. As someone who is serious about cooking, I was beyond impressed with the kitchen and its amenities. Gorgeous fireplace, comfortable beds and spectacular views. The owner/operator is Norman. He treated us like royalty throughout our stay, if you will. It was a pleasure meeting him and learning about all of his amazing antiques and artifacts.

We were a little confused when we booked, how many units there is there, but you get (not the castle on the left) but the whole chateau on the right. You get the whole thing and hot tub for yourselves. It was an unbelievable deal. We made use of the large hot tub. Only needed one of the 3 bedrooms. And we did not use the full kitchen. And small freezer was nice too. Fantastic views inside and out. It was nice being close to the ski resort, where even in summer they had bar, food, and some grocery available. It was a perfect stay to celebrate our 5th anniversary. We truly felt like a King and a Queen there.

A truly unique place -- so elegant and comfortable. We've stayed there during the skiing season, and again in warmer months; both were heavenly. The skiing on Schweitzer Mountain is deservedly renowned, and the Chateau is right there on the side of the slopes. In the warmer months the hiking is absolutely beautiful, as is the biking. The air is fresh, one is surrounded by pristine nature. And the township of Sandpoint has some lovely restaurants, as well as enjoyable places to shop and browse.Given that the owner is a serious collector of medieval antiques, the Chateau is furnished with some extraordinary historical pieces. Plus the owner will give you a tour of the dungeons in the castle right next door.A place to refresh body and soul completely. Thoroughly recommended

We will never forget this place. We were looking for a hotel room for our one summer getaway & were shocked at the prices everywhere... till I happened upon Schweitzer Caslte by complete luck. Why would we go to a hotel for slightly less if we could stay in a castle?!From the very start, I was enchanted by the small castle/chateau. I was a bit confused by the pics online; some showed the large castle (belongs to the property owner, who stays there), some the small castle/chateau, so I didn’t know quite what to expect. There was no disappointment! The light flows through the chateau like magic; at first it seemed dim, but then I started noticing the colors from the stained glass & the shadows of the beautiful iron working in the chandeliers. The light changes throughout the day & it’s amazing. We played in rainbow rays as the sun came up past the windows. The resort/village was great. Staff was very helpful & kind. Yes, there’s construction happening. No, it didn’t affect our vacation at all. Lots of shopping & dining choices, though a better selection of groceries & produce would be nice at the market. Our host at the chateau was beyond amazing. We were given as much or as little attention as we indicated we wanted on any given day; the tour of the dungeon (!) was phenomenal & being surrounded by that much history & antiques was humbling (how small are issues at work when you’re standing next to a full suit of armor with musket ball indentions?!) as well as fascinating. The views, the vibe/feeling/inspiration, the people... we’ll be back. Hopefully soon!!

Our family spent a long Presidents Day weekend skiing at Schweitzer and staying at Chateau be Melusine. Not only did we have superb skiing (great snow, varied runs and terrain, broad views over N Idaho), but we also had the delight of staying at the Chateau. One rarely has the opportunity to stay in lodgings as distinctive as this - a spiral staircase winds up to the main floor, where massive wooden beams overhang the great dinner table. Medieval armor and armaments, excellent period paintings, and time period-appropriate lighting create the feel of ancient castle life. However, in-floor heating and a well appointed kitchen bring all of the comforts one needs to fully enjoy this astonishing place. Review the photos on the website - they are an accurate representation of the place, inside and out. Phenomenal. Highly recommended by all 8 of our family members.
