Ski Magazine rates this resort as the top in the United States and I absolutely agree. This resort in the age of overcrowded, mega resorts with mega passes, has managed to retain the feel of a small town, local ski mountain. Slopes/Terrain: Sun Valley has two ski areas: Dollar and Bald Mountain (“Baldy”). Dollar is smaller and more oriented to beginners while Baldy is the big mountain. Slopes on Baldy are generally steeper than the typical resort and Sun Valley sits at a lower elevation so it can be more finicky with snow quality. However the mountain is sufficiently large enough for multiple days with plenty of variety of terrain. Runs off of Warm Springs are my personal favorite. Staff/Facilities: Incredibly friendly staff who make you feel welcome. Best lodges in America. Large and beautiful with very good food and drink options. So good you may want to end your day a bit early to enjoy the bar!

Beautiful resort with great lodges and dining. However, I wouldn't recommend this mountain for beginners, whether skiing or snowboarding. The green runs are like blue intermediate runs, and the blue runs are advanced runs. Combine that with hard-packed powder and icy conditions, and this mountain can be challenging. The runs are super long, which is terrific if you've chosen one that's matched to your skill level. Choose wrong and you may be cursing the whole way down. Many of the runs (including the beginners area on Seattle Ridge) require cat-track traverses to get to. These can be particularly tough for skiers and snowboarders, as they must keep their speed up and be comfortable on a very narrow trail. While I am happy that I was able to check this off the bucket list, it would not be my top pick for a return visit.

We enjoyed are 3 days skiing here. What you need to know is that this is NOT a mountain for beginners at all. The Green runs are super steep and would be a blue run any where else. We skied from both bases . Warm Springs is further away, but less commotion and you can store your items upstairs in a free cubby. River Run is larger with free storage in bins outside. We also enjoyed eating all the way at the top versus mid mountain. Parking is free at either place. Runs are well marked and nicely groomed.

Super 2.5 mile runs for strong intermediates—green isn’t green here! The weather was cold 9-24 our last day— it was bright & sunny though. Loved the steeps from the very top facing Pioneer Lodge. Our lunches healthy & fantastic. Sun Valley is a warm community everyone kind, helpful & go out of their way to help in any way!! My second time there & I’ll be back!

Unfortunately we had a couple of issues with our stay. Upon arrival in our room we discovered the temperature was only 64 degrees. We turned the heat up and just assumed it would be warmer in the morning. It was not so we called maintenance. A tech came and said he re-programmed the unit. When we returned after skiing the room was still cold so we called again. Another tech came and said all of the apartment units had recently received a new HVAC system and unfortunately no one had received any training on it. Finally a 3rd person came and told us a fuse had blown out in the unit. Our heat was finally working after 2 full days of it not working and it was very cold outside (in the single digits). Subsequently no one ever bothered to call to follow up to see if the heat was working again. We would have expected some type of follow up from a resort of this caliber. The next unfortunate incident happened at the hot tub. After a hard day of skiing we went to the hot tub and brought a a couple of beers along. Shortly after we arrived an employee came by and snatched the beers away from us and told us no outside alcohol was permitted. We then found out the same thing happened to our friends the day before. Had we known this was the policy we would not have brought them. Since we had to check in and receive wristbands when we entered the pool area this would have been a great time to inform guests about this policy. Also there were no signs posted at hot tub that indicated no outside alcohol was allowed. Would suggest providing better communication of this policy in order to avoid embarrassment to your guests. Finally I paid $18.70 for 90 minutes of ice skating at the resort's ice rink despite the fact that I brought my own ice skates. However the entire time we were there the entire middle of the rink was being taken up by a group of 4 ladies practicing for some type of show. At one point one of them almost hit us. Then at one point a woman set up orange cones at the end of the rink and appeared to be coaching a boy on skating/hockey techniques. At one point she told us we were skating on the wrong side of the cones. Would suggest if you are going to charge guest for "open skate time" it should be truly open to recreational skaters and not be shared as a practice rink for coaches and skaters. On a final note we learned that housekeeping service was provided upon request. It would have been nice if they could have told us this upon check in. Otherwise this seems like a nice resort but not being able to properly provide heat to a room is definitely missing the basics.

This is regarding the hair salon. The spa makes a a big deal about punctuality, and has a 24 hours cancellation/change policy, but does not hold itself to the same standard. When we showed up 15 mins before the appointment, we were informed that the stylist was running late and asked to wait for 3.5(!) hours Given how that didn't seem like a reasonable ask(it's sort of strange that they thought it would be), we asked to reschedule, and were given a next slot 5 days later. This doesn't seem appropriate or respectful behavior, particularly in the face of the 24hr cancellation policy the spa holds their customers to.

The place is beautiful and serene and I expected a GREAT massage. The waiting area and locker room are also nice. However, the massage was unspeakably worse than ones at the Massage Envy. The masseuse rubbed the skin for an hour in a beautiful room and called it a massage. I basically paid $300 for the building, not the best experience. Very disappointed.

Most of the time I come here the stylist are always changing and or call in sick . And they don't contact you to tell you this . It takes a simple text or phone call . So disappointing . Not sure what the issue is Possible not proper training. always changing the staff It happens so often according to the people in town . Would never recommend this place to anyone. They are so many other nice spa in town .

I got my hair dyed today by Ronnie in the Spa and literally best experience I have ever had. I have had a lot of experience with hairdressers and coloring and out of all of them my experience with Ronnie was by far the best. She was very accommodating to my requests and was super sweet. The effort that she put in was very much appreciated and she did absolutely perfect, definitely will be coming back!

This one would get a negative star. My best friend and I scheduled facials and we were the last appointments of the day. After the facial the women that worked there rushed us out of the locker room area to the point where we couldn't even finish getting dressed. (Literally wanted us to leave so not relaxing at all.) We walked out with wet hair and Wet skin on my clean clothes. Mortified. I could not believe the way they treated us after we had spent a hefty amount for our services. SV spa is not worth it. ? so unfortunate.I recommend hiring private estheticians for in home services.

5 stars for the actual massage. They were amazing. We did a couples massage and I had Ben. He worked on things others haven't! He was so good! The husband had a great experience with his as well! The front desk does need a little work. When I booked the appointment it was like booking a massage at the scary place hidden behind mall. No confirmation or reminder or emails or anything. Upon arriving the gal was helpful. We get walked to our looker rooms and there is a robe and shoes waiting for you. Then to the waiting room and then to massage room. It was warm but very inviting. The checkout process was also a little weird but we made it through!

Excellent resort with great customer service, amazing facilities. We loved the spa and the pool with drinks, easy to charge everything to the room. Convenient to rent bikes.
