The store was very clean and packed with goodies! We brought all of our daughter's young children's books and got almost $20 back. My wife was able to get a couple of new books for herself and with the trade out, we only paid .49¢ for both of them. There are also a ton of video games for PlayStation and Xbox, so if you ever need an extra few dollars, bring your books, CD's, video games or DVD's and they will take care of you. Friendly staff too!

This is a great place to come get cheap books and sell your books too. We have come here several times throughout life but our most recent visit was on Sunday, September 21, 2025. I was looking for a very specific book and I was assisted in finding it when I couldn’t it (my bad, I was looking in the wrong section). Definitely recommend this place in the Algonquin Commons. A good selection of books and misc things throughout the store, all organized. To the back are their clearance options (which are super low priced) and a children’s section. They’ve got thriller/horror sections, CD/music sections, fiction section, YA/Fantasy sections, and more throughout the store.
Staff are friendly and seem open to any questions you may have. Prices overall are as the brand says..prices are very good especially compared to Barnes & Nobles.

Extremely dissapointed bad Low ballers and high prices, i called first to make sure they were open because it was half hour drive there, I took 150+ movies half blueray half DVD all good movies, 3 books one is 97 years old, and an original large star wars imperial shuttle in near mint condition that sell over $300 on ebay. I waited with3 kids for hour and a half while they looked through it all, They offered me $26 for everything. I said what why so low, the woman said they have multiple copies. I said no thanks that is low balling I looked up some of the movies I had and they were selling 5 to 20 dollars at there own store, not including seasons some of my seasons were selling for $40. What a ripoff they lost a customer. Shame. They have highest prices I've seen anywhere for used movies, I don't know who is leaving good reviews saying they are cheap but they are not. I did the math and they offer about 2% buy to sell ratio. I wouldve rather donated them than waste my time.

Go here all the time and I had a price difference from the item to my receipt. I walked out looking at my receipt thinking that can’t be the right price. As soon as I got to the car I dropped off my 17 items and went to go back and the door was looked. I looked at 2 different employees looking at me with a receipt in hand and they just walked away and the other ignored me. I run my own store and if I saw someone with a receipt standing outside after I just closed, I would immediately ask them if everything was okay not just walk away or ignore.

I’m a vinyl collector, and Half Price Books is one of the few places where I actually find reasonably priced gems. Not junk from your uncle’s garage sale—actual, playable records worth taking home.
The staff? Friendly, helpful, and best of all, not breathing down your neck while you flip through the records.
And the one-star reviews? Please. They all read like people who thought they’d retire early selling a box of dusty Danielle Steele novels. Spoiler alert: you’re not.
Five stars. Always worth a look.

This location and the Bloomingdale store are my go-to spots for books!! The Schaumburg store is a very convenient location because it's on my way home from work. Very organized, all shelves were labeled and legible, staff was friendly and approachable when I needed help finding an author, lots of variety to appeal to any reader and the restrooms were clean and well-kept which I appreciate very much. Purchased several books like always and I highly recommend stopping in, especially for their Funko Pop section near the front! They always catch me with something that I'm eyeing so, my next trip here will be for some Funkos to add to my collection!

I went there last friday and saturday. I bought books on both days. They are somewhat fairly priced for buying. On the 2nd day, I brought them 5 boxes of books. All new, read once, no markings, a variety of topics and newer titles, very popular titles, very popular kids books, similar to the ones that we bought. After making me wait 49 minutes, with kids and tow, they offered a whopping. $34. I wasn't expecting full price or even half price or even a quarter of the price. $6.80 per box ??? NEVER AGAIN- I'd rather throw away (I'd donate) Giving them a free $250-$500 (that's $1-$2 per book, ain't nothing in their store that cheap) We buy a LOT of books (obviously) but NEVER AGAINfrom this chain. I'd rather pay full price than buy from them.

I first came to Half Price Books in 2019 and I’ve never gone to another bookstore. Honestly my favorite place to find hidden gems and you can’t beat the prices. The store is organized by genre and it couldn’t be a smoother shopping experience. I could spend hours in here and I’m pretty sure every time that I go, I do. 12/10!!!

All of the staff interactions I’ve had at this store have been nothing short of a positive experience. The stock itself is well kept and relatively extensive. I’ve found some really great items ranging from books to dvds to cds to even comic books.
I’ve sold items to this store on two separate occasions. I felt like I got a fair amount from them and in a reasonable amount of time to price everything.
