After reading others’ reviews, I was cautious to shop this store. However I noticed most of the negative reviews came from people who were attempting to sell clothes. I was shopping not selling and I hoped I would have a different experience.
When I walked in, I asked where to find what I needed. The employee not only told me and pointed the section out, she also walked me over and showed me the exact sizes that I was looking for. She then explained the return policy and asked if I had other questions. I shopped, went to the register, and a different employee immediately stopped her task and rang up my purchases. The cashier explained the loyalty program and chatted while she worked. As I walked out a third employee wished me a good day.
Other reviews also commented on the age of the employees. Everyone I saw today was younger (late teens early twenties) and they provided excellent service. I had a great experience and would recommend this location.

I don’t understand how they pass up all of my name brand items but when I went through some of there racks they have target and Walmart brands hanging up. Makes no sense

Each time I’ve visited this location it’s been a let down. Where I understand it’s a risk to drive all the way there and not have any of your items chosen for purchase i think it’s important to provide legitimate reasons for not accepting certain items. I’ve brought in numerous unused items from boutiques, Nordstrom, Nike, Target, etc. and been told “we couldn’t accept these items due to wear and tear”. Back in the day I personally shopped there to obtain brands I otherwise couldn’t afford. I thought I was finally able to give back in some way but every time I drop off items nothing is accepted. As a professional business I would also recommend the girls not gossip so loudly while customers shop. It’s just not polite and sometimes inappropriate.

Store is a waste of time. Spoke to the store manager today the bald guy and he told me that this locations goes based off opinion of whoever looks at the items your selling. Even if the items are on brand or trend. I had two pairs of UGG boots and coach shoes that got quoted a price. I denied and came back a couple days later and they said due to style they were not interested. If they accepted them once not sure why they would get denied the second time. Also these items were purchased in my 20s and not “mature” styles. The male store manager also said they are a “teenage” store, which is odd because they have a sign posted inside their store that says they are looking for items in style for people in their 20s. Teenager does not equal 20 year olds. This store is raggedy period. Would not come back to sell or buy.

DO NOT GO HERE. How do i give 0 stars. This is the worst place ever. You guys don’t even do your jobs. how do you look through 2 giant bags of new clothes in 5 minutes….. Always so disappointed when i try to sell here. I see the owner always responds and backs up her teen employees on these reviews. Well i suggest you hire a secret shopper if you really want to know how your employees work. Just a terrible experience in general every time. People go out of their way to do this and you can’t even look at my clothes. No help in store either had to ask if i had to do anything else while coworkers were telling a story… Please close this location it gives Algonquin a bad name. Schaumburg location is a million times better. Every other Plato’s location always at least takes one or two things. This one never does.

Horribly rude staff, judgemental and discriminatory.

This store is a joke lol. I brought stuff in that are pretty popular designers like odd future, juicy contour and playboy for example. I also brought stuff in I decided I didn’t want or didn’t fit me that was FROM THE STORE is “out of style” when I bought the stuff in the past month 😂😂 this place needs some employees that aren’t little highschool girls lol

Great selection of clothes

Employees seem like they would rather slack off than do their job. No help, and no efforts made.

My girlfriend went to sell some clothes and jewelry, and we were told it would take an hour to process everything. When we returned and gathered our items they didn't want we found out her jewelry was stolen. There needs to be more oversight for employees.

Tried selling clothes to Plato’s Closet one last time, and unfortunately, it confirmed my previous frustration. Even though they claim to accept athletic wear and trendy, name-brand items, they seem to only take clothes that fit a very specific teen style. I brought in several high-quality pieces, some with tags still on, and none were accepted—with no real explanation.
It’s confusing and disappointing, especially when the items align with what they advertise they're looking for. I’m not sure what their selection criteria actually are, but it feels inconsistent and frankly, like a waste of time.
From now on, I’d rather donate my items—especially the ones with tags—so someone who really needs them can benefit. At least then I know they’re going to good use.
Final Thought:
If you're an adult with great clothes to sell, skip Plato’s Closet. Save yourself the time and donate instead.

What everyone is saying about this location being terrible is true. When this location first opened I’d make $30 sometimes $40. Today I walked in with 3 bags of clothes. First of all their texting system doesn’t work so after an hour I went in to ask if my things were looked through. The high school girl behind the counter goes oh yea! Our system doesn’t work a lot and giggles. Then proceeds to tell me we passed on everything due to mature styles. What actually happened is she saw I was in my 30’s but what’s funny about that is a lot of the things I brought in were my college age nieces. Nice name brand things Victoria secret, lulu lemon, nike. Also the things that were mine were not in any way mature styles. Leggings again from Victoria secret with tags. I’m not sure they even looked through my items, just decided I was over 20 so they must not want it. Furthermore while waiting I took a look around it’s all crap! Every shirt had spots and sweat stains. Not sure what’s going on at this location and everyone on here bringing new nice things and not taking any and having a store full of dirty crap but I’d never go back or give them any business. And if it’s the teenagers you have running the store maybe the owner should pop in once in a while to see what’s going on.

Barely bothered to look through clothes I brought in- the ones they did they shoved back into the bags I brought them in. I brought clothes (most still had tags on them and were barely worn) from brands like lulus John gault and American Eagle. Really a big let down. While shopping I’ve only been able to find clothes with stains on them (especially the ones they mark up for being from stores like brandy) and pet hair… to make matters worse the staff lately have been consistently rude and talk down to their customers…

I don’t sell my clothes at platos anymore but love coming by to shop/browse. Usually, most of everything is clean and in good condition. This past week when I stopped by, I found a lot dirty clothes on the racks. There was a specific mini black skirt in the medium section that was completely full of pet hair which grossed me out. A lot of the tanks had sweat and makeup stains, and in general, most of them were in terrible condition.
I’ve never seem to run into this issue in the past at this location, but I am a bit disappointed. I’m pretty sure the employees are supposed to buy clean clothing from sellers. The choice in poor quality clothing is also concerning. I’m hoping it’s just a one time thing.

Quite honestly very disappointed. Very recently I went to this location trying to sell my items ( 2 large boxes of clothes and shoes). Approximately 5 minutes after I checked in, I got a message that they are done sorting my items and I can come pick them up. I was waiting in the parking lot and when I came in, all my items were folded and the way I had them originally. It didn’t even seem like they went through my stuff. I even had items that were in great condition, that they were looking for, and had written on their white board that they are buying White Fox and other various items like such. They ended up not taking anything which like I said it didn’t even look like they went through my items. When I commented that how fast they took from my check in ( less than 5 minutes) I got a dirty look and just rude attitude. I am not planning to return to this location, I am disappointed on how downhill they went.
