We have been so fortunate to work closely with Ellyn Anderson over the past year as we built our first home and invested in furniture for the long-term. She has not only become a friend, but a trusted advisor with an incredible design eye and vision.Ellyn has helped us make selections for investment pieces, like an oversized sectional sofa and a family kitchen table, that become the cornerstone design features of our home. She went above and beyond with her time and council, working many weekends to accommodate our schedules and coach us through strange pandemic delivery schedules/delays so we could keep our move-in timing in mind. She also was VERY generous and helped weigh-in on selections not directly in her oversight, such as flooring and cabinet color and lighting heights etc. All of this made her a VIP for us during what is a stressful time in building and moving.My favorite memory is on our delivery day. Ellyn was there onsite to oversee a smooth delivery of our pieces and celebrate with us. This is the defining difference. She cares immensely. Talent is one thing, but care is what sets Walter E. Smithe, and Ellyn, apart.We look forward to working with Ellyn as we complete more areas of our home, and am so grateful to her. Thank you for everything and you have a customer in us always.

Unfortunately, I had the absolute worse experience with Walter E Smite. We placed an order for a new table and 6 chairs back in Oct 2020. The table was originally delivered damaged, the wrong table was delivered 2 more times! We waited three years for them to resolve the issue. We suggested early on to either cancel or provide a discount to cover the damages. They refused to cancel the order (Said it was in production) Discounts on the table would be for store credit. WES idea of a part time solution was to give us an old out-dated pine table that didn't match anything in our home. It wasn't until they finally admitted they could not remedy the order. At that point, we canceled. I now have 6 chairs ($1,000 a piece) for a table that I can't replicate nor match to. My final invoice to manage the balance was still wrong, even in the end (they didn't credit the correct amount and said we were delinquent - can you imagine!). It was insulting, embarrassing, disappointing and greedy on the part of WES. They did not care at all about their client's best interest or the reputation. I would not recommend them to anyone interested in a reputable service.PS: I put this on their website. If it's still not there - that should tell you something!

I waited a full year for my couch and when it finally arrived it was damaged. They sent out highly unqualified people to repair it and two years later (waited this long for a call back), it is still not fixed! They keep offering a small in store credit but I will not shop there again!

Extremely disappointed with Walter E Smith. We purchased two leather couches. When the back of one of them started to sag they wouldn't repair it for us. We were told there is nothing we can do. The couches were supposed to have been built very sturdy however the frame broke on one of them after only two years. Again we were told there is nothing we can do. I will not shop at this store ever again. They do not stand by there furniture!

I dropped by the warehouse location to pick up a coffee table and I received lots of help from Dave while I was there. He was very nice and professional and helped me load it in my car. Fantastic service!

This happened several years ago, my wife never left feedback but I want to warn others about this store.My wife purchased a very expensive solid wood dining room table from Walter E. Smithe in Arlington Heights. After delivery we noticed that when we sit at the table the finish is sticky across the entire surface of the table.My wife called to complain and they sent someone out who tried a couple different solvents to see if they could correct it. Nothing he tried worked. He told us that the table would need to be refinished. He said this would be expensive and that it would not be covered under any type of warranty, we would have to pay. I was furious when she told me but she wound-up putting a tablecloth over it because we had already spent so much on the table we couldn't justify the additional expense of having our NEW table refinished! I like the wood grain finish of the table but now it is always hidden under the cover.So the takeaway here is that when the Walter E. Smithe factory screws-up the finish, it's the customer's fault. You have no recourse. I do not shop here anymore and I warn everyone I know about our bad experience.

Store is premium, prices are super premium, ....i like quality and don't mind to pay for it but asking $1200 for a basic kitchen chair seem excessive

If I could give this place a 0 rating I would . I purchased a dinning room set October 2021 didn’t had a fallowed up from them at all to say it was backed order until I had to contact them . I was told o would be getting it November before thanksgiving never did again I had to fallow up with them . Finally got it in March 2022 and 2 month later chair are falling apart . Mail a claim and been dealing with Mr . Wiles and the claim department seen April for a new set or refund and nothing has happen jet . I just want my money back to get my dinning set elsewhere . Will never shop here again . There a BIG JOKE

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. This place only cares about your money. There was zero follow up on my order that was placed in November of last year and was told by Wiles I would get my pieces the end of February, fine no problem we would wait. Then I called March 1st because no one had followed up they said my pieces were on “back order” for another month. I called again April because no one would tell me what was going on with my order only to find out this week they no longer make my pieces! Why promise me my order and sell me something they don’t have. This is disgusting service I wouldn’t shop here or recommend it. It took them 5 months to tell me they no longer have the items. To make matters worse I was the one who had to consistently follow up on my own order. Again this place only cares about your money do not shop here the service is horrible.

It happened to be New Years Eve 2021 and we were just looking to get ideas for a home that we are building in Florida. We happen to call to find out Walter E Smithe will ship to florida. So we ended up going and meeting the most amazing design specialist Jill and she had not only spent hours with us she got our taste and helped us design a whole house. 3 bedrooms, den, dining, living to the amazing outside patio furniture for the lani and pool area.I will say this has been the best experience that we have had and will never shop anywhere else. To the Smithe family and our amazing designer we thank you for all that you have done to making this experience truly amazing.Jan and Barry

Not the Walter E Smithe we remembered! Waited ten months and paid a pretty penny for a "custom" couch and chair. We figured it would be worth it as we had such a good experience with them over a decade ago. When it finally did come in, however, couch looked like anything you could get for $1500 -$2,000. Is not very comfortable. And came with these "custom" pillows. What the heck is this? Looks like something people do when the dog chews off a corner. And leather chair had a scratch and this indentation. Original contact/designer simply referred us to customer service. So disappointing. No longer a fan.

10/1/21 Came in to wander a bit. I am looking for a couch and one on the WES site struck my fancy. I'd never been in a Walter E. Smithe before, and the woman who helped explained their setup. They have green stickers on some items, and those items are part of their stock program. Those items are quickly manufactured with little to no customization (they might offer it in a couple different colors from which you can choose). The other items, which I believe have a red sticker, are items that you can put your own spin on. They had some great items from both the stock and custom group; far too many things caught my eye! They're requiring masks of everyone, of course, since we're still deep in the midst of a pandemic. Although the woman who helped me couldn't seem to pinch her mask to her nose to keep it in place; it constantly was falling below her nose. They do have hand sanitizer right at the entrance, and they had masks laid out for customers to use if they came in without them. I'll be back to eventually place an order, and hopefully will remember to post an update!
