On my first visit with Dr. Hellfrich I was completely blown away by the amount of time she took with me and how well she explained everything to me. I have vision issues and walked away with a greater understanding of my issues. She sent me to see a specialist is STL and after that visit I called her to discuss it and see what my next steps were. This is where it all falls apart. I was told by the receptionist that she would call me that week. I got no call. I called again a week later and was told that either the receptionist or the doctor would call me that day. No call. I waited for two weeks for the return call. So today I walked in to the office and nicely explained my disappointment with the lack of call backs to the receptionist. At this point an “I am so sorry” would have been nice. But I got nothing. She told me the doctor was not with anyone and she would see if I could see her. When she returned she told me that the doctor would call me but couldn’t do so until early next week. Today is Tuesday. I don't plan on going back and if you expect great customer service, I would try someplace else. Makes me sad, because I really liked the doctor.Edit: Today is Thursday and still no call from the doctor or any of the staff. I just don’t understand how you can run a business this way.

I fell as though I was robbed there . I made my Aug 3 appointment in advance with all my insurance info given to them at that time . A week prior to appointment they followed up with a detailed health history and tell me to bring old glasses etc .upon arrival of appointment I give rx list and double check if they need copy of my insurance card . No they are all good. Doctor visit precedes all well , and not until after doctor visit I’m handed off to the eye glass person to get glasses ,who now tells me they don’t see my insurance info. At all …, what ,? that’s the first mention of a problem.. she then sends me back to other side ( doctors side ) for check out and this person instead of charging my $10.00 charges me for over $100.00 and gives me a list of insurance that they don’t accept . Which as turns out is what I have., at best they deceived me into thinking I was covered at worse they knew the whole time and didn’t say anything until services were rendered.. upon calling and speaking to a employee Nelly who wouldn’t let me get a word in edge wise seams to be well rehearsed in her arguments that don’t make sense . Says I would purposely give her my insurance info knowing that I wasn’t covered at all . How does that make sense .

We love Dr. Helfrich and her staff! Our entire family goes here and they are great with the kiddos! We always refer anyone looking to this office. Chevon and Nellie are fantastic as well!

So I stopped at their office in mid December to make an appointment & had already checked that I was in network and gave them my insurance card. My appointment was scheduled for mid February. My appointment had been cancelled twice and rescheduled. After the 2nd cancellation I was put on list and called the next day for upcoming appointment. They would be checking if extra eye tests would be covered. Today received a call & was told that I was out of network with Blue Cross/Blue Shield which I have never had. I cancelled my appointment, can't believe this.

I've been going to Helfrich Eye Care for over 6 years and the care has always been top-notch. What initially attracted me to Dr. Helfrich was that she does not require eye dilation for in depth examinations due to her state-of-the-art equipment. The staff is super friendly and thorough. If you purchase glasses, you not only receive a great warranty but first-class service before and after purchase from Shavonne.

I am a long time customer/patient and have had nothing but courteous and professional service. The staff has always been able and willing to accommodate schedule adjustments when needed. The doctor is always thorough and engaging when explaining conditions and necessary treatment. The facility is modern, clean and well maintained. Without hesitation, I would recommend this business to family and friends.

Patient care at it's worst...rude, unprofessional staff...main reason for visit was to perform glaucoma test but their equipment failed and provided no valid results...yet a staff member later blamed the patient for the failed test...leaving patient confused and lacking the necessary analysis...with no option to repeat the test or explanation why it couldn't be rescheduled that day due to its importance to the patient's eye health. Prepare for combat if you do question your treatment or the bill. Plenty of better options for eye care in the area. One Star is generous...

I am very dissatisfied with this business. An employee there made me feel as if I was wasting her time and there was nothing wrong with the glasses. I expressed my frustration with not being able to see clearly and my discomfort with the one employee to the Dr in an email. I was told the doctor would get back to me when the office reopened after COVID. I waited approximately 5 months and never heard back. So I sent and email again. When they finally got me in, it was an awful experience. There was no acknowledgment of the unanswered email. Instead, the doctor stated she wanted me to see the person I had previously expressed patronized me. When I reminded her of my discomfort, her demeanor changed. She stated she would just refund my money. I asked why my vision was still blurry. She became very defensive and told me she has done this job for over 20 years and I was the worst customer she ever had. As I was walking down the hallway to leave, she again yelled that comment and added, "You need to leave and don't ever come back here!" I was embarrassed, insulted and humiliated in front of her staff and any other customers who were in rooms and/or the waiting area. I did return the glasses. My credit card was refunded in couple of days, but it took 5 phone calls within 6 days to my insurance company to finally get her office to void the sale so my benefits could be restored. My family have been patients of Dr. Helfrich at Family Eye care for years. One of the reasons is that we deeply appreciate the personalized service by Shabonne. She manages the eyewear department. She takes her time to make sure that your glasses fit correctly as well as she also spends time to explain your options when purchasing new glasses and lenses. She has a fabulous fashion sense so if you are a "fashionista", she has the latest frames-many frames are unique to the Family Eye Care selection. Coach, Tiffany, unique designers not offered anywhere else, as well as Michael Kors for women. She offers a very personalized service. I appreciate this very much. I highly recommend the very comprehensive eye exam and Shabonne's personal attention.
