Love this place! They offer great organic lemonade offered a refundable container. Produce, pasta, grains, beans, greens, dairy and of course ice cream are all amazing. Step aside ALDI you’re not the only one in town with free boxes.

Worst most woke creepy people ever. Ridiculous prices went to buy lemonade and was informed I would have to have a two dollar charge for a bottle.. I'm not paying seven dollars for lemonade. I can get at jewel for four. this place is ridiculous!. can't imagine why I place like this would even stay in business. Tried to even look at their deli selection and seven dollars for half a serving of pasta. You can buy a whole box for that much.
This place is a joke.

Full disclosure: I am a part-owner and I am hella biased toward the concept of co-ops as a whole, so this glowing review is definitely supported by both of those facts.
Green Top has consistently fresh, local produce, dairy, and baked goods, some really wonderful dairy-free options you can't find other places around town, unique offerings like Sasse's Apiary honey candies and Funks Grove maple ramp seasoning (PLEASE try both, they are bonkers delicious), and a staff that works very, very hard but always has a kind word upon entry or excited comment on your purchase at check-out. The beer, wine, and liquor selection is exceptionally well-curated and a definite well-kept secret for excellent last-minute adult beverage gifts, should you need one. All of the food prepared in-store is delicious, well-marked for folks with food sensitivities or dietary restrictions, and there are often clearance specials on unusual fun treats that I end up adding to my regular rotation of purchases--like seaweed snacks or bespoke hotsauce. Definitely don't sleep on the small-but-savvy assortment of pre-made packaged Indian, Mexican, and other world food items that are toward the middle of the store next to the insanely tasty baked items, too...all shelf-stable and very reasonably priced for a quick, convenient meal when you only have access to a microwave. EBT is accepted and encouraged, along with produce-matching benefits (I think currently up to $10 a day), which makes it a little easier for folks to get more healthy, fresh foods for each dollar spent, as well.
Come visit and check this place out, even if you're outside of the neighbourhood. You don't have to be an owner to shop here, and you'll definitely find something worth coming back for. :)
P.S. Absolutely try the Green Top House-Made Kaleslaw, Power Greens, Sunflower Seed Salad, Cucumber Medley, and Sesame-Kale Salad when they're available. These folks know how to make delicious sides and small meals that are surprisingly filling and--as stated before--sensitive to many major allergen and dietary restrictions, while being chock full of fibre, flavour, and freshness. :)

I became a co-owner back in 2020 after seeing how the store was working so hard to keep our local growers in business, though I've shopped here before then. As others have stated, it's not necessary to purchase an ownership to shop the store, though there are owner-exclusive perks and discounts. For example, owners earn Local Loyalty Points for buying stuff that comes from within 100 or so miles; I love my glass water bottle I earned with those points! It's great having fresh produce year 'round just as fresh as what you can find during the weekly farmers' market (and less often in the cold months), but without having to remember to get cash first. Their deli has a lot of great vegan options made daily, too - I'm a particular fan of the Mexican chocolate cake, and the blackened tofu makes a quick lunch option if I'm in a hurry.

Such a nice place to shop. It is a little pricy but since it is a small coop it makes sense. The upstairs area is great to go and have a bite with kids

Love bulk herbs and spices, finding items hard to find at other stores. Deli is convenient for a quick dinner.

Green Top is affordable, local, fresh, organic, donates to local charities, *and* you don't have to be a member to shop there. There's nothing not to love. They always have fresh produce, meat, bread, and cheese from local farmers and bakeries. Their deli counter is always well-stocked with grab-and-go items if you're looking for a quick meal, and there's space in the store to eat if you have the time. They have a taco bar on Tuesdays and a vegetarian and non-vegetarian soup of the day. Some of their more affordable items include bulk goods (flour, oats, nuts, coffee beans, etc.) and canned goods. For example, a loaf of fresh bread from Central Illinois Bakehouse is around $4.50, comparable for what you'd pay for a loaf of ultra-processed sourdough from Jewel or Kroger. There's a good selection of wellness items, and always fun seasonal items. I do Christmas shopping there every year and stock up on fancy chocolates, Funks Grove items, and other edible gifts. You also don't have to do all your shopping at Green Top to support them and save money. For myself, I do about 25% of my shopping at Green Top and feel that it's good value for the money. I highly, highly recommend them!

super overpriced produce but I respect the idea and atmosphere of the store. If aldi was opened I would've gone there but Green Top Grocery took care of me. Staff was friendly as well. Thank you for supporting local farmers
