I usually don’t leave reviews but I’ve sat on it for a while and feel like I would want the feedback as a business.
I got a haircut here in March. To preface, I booked an appointment the morning of and was fine with any stylist and time. I just wanted a haircut that day because I had been thinking about it for a while and needed some self-care at the time. I don’t want to say their name but the stylist initials were M.S.
I wanted collar-bone length with long layers blended in and that is what I expressed to M. Initially, everything was going well but M. was a bit quiet. I am too so this wasn’t an issue at all. After she put on my cape and we had a brief consultation, I was expecting her to take me to the shampoo bowls but she didn’t. She started to spray my hair with a water bottle and brushed it out. I didn’t know if this was normal so I didn’t say anything. But in hindsight, the two other stylist working washed their clients hair and they were doing men’s cuts.
The cut was going fine but then M. started conversations which quickly turned unprofessional (in my opinion). She mentioned going out the night before and being hungover that morning. I would be more comfortable with this if I had been a current client but this was my first time at this salon and with M. She continued to talk about her night out, how she went to a strip club, and shared her opinions on the women she saw. I replied kindly and tried to laugh it off because she was cutting my hair and holding shears near my head but I was uncomfortable.
The cut was shorter than I expected and ended above my shoulders. She offered to style my hair which I accepted, especially since she didn’t wash my hair, I wanted the salon experience. I have naturally wavy hair and prefer it curled when I style it but M. never asked how I like it. (A minor infraction) She straightened my hair and it looked nice. Again, just shorter than I was expecting. Some layers looked kinda short but I figured it was just cause it was straighter underneath from the styling that I wasn’t used to. I paid M.S. and gave a tip, I only know her name because she gave me her card.
My only issue with my cut at first was the length but after a few washes, multiple attempts at different styles, and reflecting on my appointment with M.S., it became evident that I was unhappy with my overall experience. I am sorta picky when it comes to layers which is why I say long layers during consults and try to explain what I like about my current hair and how I want it to change. My layers were extremely short and not aligned with my part. I do part my hair on the side but even when I part my hair in the center, they are not the same length.
I’ve made do over the last few months with the hope that with growth, it will look better. Unfortunately, it does not. The length has helped the tiniest bit but the layers are still uneven and look choppy.
I would rate my overall experience with M.S. with 1 star but as I briefly mentioned earlier, the other stylist seemed to provide better service. I only overheard portions on their conversations with their clients and they definitely didn’t involve strippers and being hungover. They also washed their clients hair which, in my opinion, is the best part of the service. For that I am giving 2 stars because I am hoping M.S. is just an outlier at the salon.

Had a great experience with my stylist Rosie. I felt really comfortable and not rushed as I explained exactly how I wanted my hair, and what I wanted it to grow into. She looked at the pics I showed her, gave her expert opinion on how to accomplish the look. I felt like I was in good hands. She took her time and was really detail oriented, making sure everything was perfect and fixed right before sending me on my way. Very friendly too. Thanks Rosie.

If you are new to the Bloomington-Normal area, or looking for a new stylist, please try this salon. My first visit was yesterday, and Jennifer was my stylist. Jennifer was very friendly, detailed, and wanted to make sure she understood the type of haircut I was requesting. During the haircut, Jennifer offered suggestions on taking care of my hair. The salon was very clean, and the staff seemed to work well together, and the haircut price was amazing. I have become a loyal customer and will share my experiences with family and friends.
