About Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center
Rainbow Cafe LGBTQ Center is a nonprofit community center that provides a safe, welcoming environment for the Southern Illinois LGBTQIA+ community. Rainbow Cafe offers a variety of programs, including peer support groups, social groups, youth programs, and more. Rainbow Cafe connects LGBTQIA+ Southern Illinoisans to community and health services to improve health outcomes, quality of life, and sense of belonging. Other community groups also use Rainbow Cafe to meet and host unique events and workshops. Rainbow Cafe was founded in 2000 and moved into the Illinois Street location in 2023. It is not a "cafe" in the usual sense—but there is usually coffee or tea to be found during office hours and public programming!

Rainbow Cafe does a lot of good in the Southern Illinois community, offering relational services and genuine connection points for people who have been made vulnerable by the current political environment. I'm grateful for their presence, their work, and their mission.
