As a city planner, I am used to interpreting technical drawings and this was a bear to assemble because the directions are hard to follow. My advice is go slow and have a helper. Our secret to success was devoting at last an hour to assembly. You need both the directions and the actual parts to make sense of assembly, not one or the other. Look at the directions, then look at the part, and put the two together, then re-check the directions so it's less unclear. What's frustrating is that the parts in the directions are not depicted as they exist in reality. The real parts have more holes and are scaled differently than they are shown. The diagrams are small and difficult to match to the actual parts. Still, if you have a helper to hold the lid in place while you screw the brackets to the base, it goes easier. The 134 gallons of space goes provides enough room to store a small grill, 3 bags of charcoal, lighter fluid, and outdoor seat cushions. Best of all, the deck box solves the problem of having to make multiple trips to the garage to get all the grilling stuff and frees us space in the garage. The screws are self-taping, meaning you need to apply force to get the tip screw to penetrate the plastic. Be patient and remember to check what you're doing with the directions as you assemble. There are plastic spacers you install behind the joints to give the box extra stability and wind resistance. Lastly, the product has a 10 year limited warranty from Suncast so I recommend registering your product. Ace Hardware honored my $15 off the purchase of a >$75 item coupon and the gentlemen helped me load it into my SUV. Home Despot would not have been that helpful.

I am here solely to speak about the out-of-this-world service I received from REBECCA, the checkout clerk. She has seen me come and go a million times and each time she is attentive, understanding and helpful with returns and suggestions when it calls for. She has also pointed me towards different deals which in turn led to me purchasing 3x of what I would have originally, this is all a good thing and was super helpful toward my project. Rebecca knows what she is doing and is not overbearing with the customers, she is lighthearted and does her work efficiently. She deserves a raise/promotion. Thank you again Rebecca for all the help with my patio furniture project.

In the era of Amazon and big box stores this Ace Hardware is a refreshing throwback to a time of customer service and helpfulness. I’ve shopped here three or four times and they’ve always been very helpful and with excellent prices. Save yourself the frustration and just go there for home and yard projects that are on the smaller side.

Worst customer service ever! I walked through the door, it was filthy. Instead greeting my husband and I, the female at register immediately called for assistance… Older guy walks up to me and “WHAT CHEW LOOKIN FIR” … I immediately asked him who are you talking to; my husband was on a business call. I walked in my husband direction and told him how I was approached. He ended his call and walked over to the guy and asked him if there was a problem. The guy said no. My husband explained to him that his approach to me was offensive. My husband asked him is that how he greets everyone. The guy’s response was “YAHHH, I ASK EVERYBODY, WHAT CHEW LOOKIN FIR”.
I was undone, I had to exit the store. We were in the Ace Hardware store in Crystal Lake yesterday and the customer service was a 1000% top notch. The store was clean and the employees were friendly, polite and professional!!! Unlike the horrible customer service in Cary IL.
I normally don’t write negative reviews, only positive ones. I just had to warn others like myself not to even waste your time, energy and money.
My husband still ended up buying a $700 lawnmower due to Crystal Lake not having it in stock. That was our first time and last time shopping at Ace Hardware in Cary, IL.

Ron was a very helpful gentleman. He went above and beyond to help me find a mirror replacement even calling other companies. He’s a great worker and we need more people like him!

Accidentally returned the wrong Christmas lights. Called within an hour of discovering, explained my mistake and asked the employee to please look. She couldn't because everything had been restocked and apparently there had been a great many to return to shelves. It was 6:48 when we called. Closes at 7. Plenty of time to check. I explained if someone comes in and buys the package, they will have the wrong lights and then THEY will have to come back. Didn't seem to matter. Next morning, called the manager to explain the situation. He wasn't particularly interested. Went in and they couldn't find the bulbs. When I explained again the situation and the mistake made and how another customer will be inconvenienced, the counter clerk very rudely told me "We can handle it" and walked off. I responded that isn't the point! Around this time the manager walks in. When I explain what just happened and the backstory, his first response was, "You didn't provide enough information for them to find it." Completely ignored the fact the staff refused to even go look! The girl even said she distinctly remembered us coming in (within the last hour!). Didn't matter what I explained, his next response was "Well, you have to take accountability." What??!! That is exactly what we did by calling, telling them the mistake we made, coming back up to the store. Unbelievable. I am shocked and disappointed at the way Ray the Manager spoke to me. Very poor customer service. Just lost a loyal customer. In the future, I will give my business to FRG Ace. The only redeeming aspect of this entire experience was Ryan. Very nice and helpful.
