I decided I wanted to get platinum/white highlights for my grey hair which was thin and lifeless. I thought the highlights would give my hair more body. I searched and read a number of reviews for different salons. i came across WG Salon and I'm so happy I did! It's a cute unpretentious shop with so much charm. Karen was my hairdresser, and she did a beautiful job highlighting my hair. Since my first visit I have had 2 more visits. I can't say enough about Karen. She is so sweet and thoughtful but more importantly I have never had anyone cut my hair with such meticulous care. I'm 72 and have had a lifetime of haircuts. She doesn't just grab the hair and chop it off. I have very thin hair and she carefully spends time layering it and it makes such a difference. I highly recommend her!

I am so pleased with my experience here! Right from the beginning of making an appointment, they got me in within 15 minutes of calling. Sarah did an amazing job cutting my hair. It looks amazing and full. I went about 6 years without a cut and I finally feel comfortable going back on a regular basis. 10/10 would recommend!

My best friend is Mr. Wilkin’s nephew, and he recommended that I go to WG Salon since no other place could give me a proper haircut. Happy to say that I’ll be coming back again when I need a haircut done right.

I'd been looking for a place literally for years who can actually cut a man's hair to wear with a "messy" look. The only place that came close was a "swanky" (think Italian name that starts with a "T") salon in Crystal Lake for $70 plus tip for a men's cut, and then another $200 for a (one color) color. Ninety bucks a month for an OK men's cut, plus $300 for a cut and color every third month??? I'm afraid I'm not quite THAT vain! Went there for two months (one cut and then a cut and color) while I searched for another place in the meantime because of the sticker shock. While the two gals who did my hair (granted, the color job WAS exceptionally well done), were both very pleasant, this particular salon has different people who cut your hair and then a different one to color your hair (I'd never heard of that before). Thus it is hard to schedule both services together without having to sit around and do nothing for an hour waiting for the colorist to start your hair after the stylist finishes cutting it. Based on the online reviews, I decided to try out WG Salon, a small salon in the little strip mall right by Lou Malnati's that you'd miss if you blinked - my advice: don't blink! Boy, am I glad I found this little gem and gave it a shot! From the front desk staff who is fun, friendly, and accommodating, to the stylist (Wilkin, in my case), it was an all-around welcomed excellent experience...for about a THIRD of the price of the swanky salon mentioned above. It is clear that Wilkin is very experienced and knowledgeable as a men's hair stylist. Not only did he do an excellent job on my hair, he actually took his time, explaining what he was doing, explaining the technique to style my hair at home to get the look he created for me, and he also...wait for it...LISTENED to me! Just a nice and cool guy, too. I don't think I've ever said this before, but I'm actually already looking FORWARD to going back for my next haircut and my hair color the month after next, right before a long trip. I'm sure Wilkin will do an outstanding job with the color and leave me looking great to run with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain in July! Just one more reason to make it back in one piece: so Wilkin can do my hair in August! :) Highly recommend WG Salon.

I came here based on a recommendation from a friend and now my whole family comes here! Wilken is great! He spends time listening to what you want and offers ideas too. The salon is busy so make sure to call and make an appointment. There are other stylists there and I'm sure they're great or others wouldn't be talking about them here. Bonus, the place is open and there's free conversation going on which adds to the friendly atmosphere. Btw, if you meed to buy product, there's a great selection!!

I tried this salon for the first time yesterday and I was very happy I did. I was immediately greeted by Susie very professional. Inquired about my thoughts, what I was looking to do. She shared her thoughts with me and I liked that she took time to really look at my hair see how healthy it was. She picked the right color for my roots, shaped my hair and even thanked me for giving them an opportunity to serve me. I will definitely return. Thank you for an awesome experience.
