Always top notch personal service! Highly recommend banking here and putting your money to work locally instead of at one of the many giant faceless corporations.

I've been a Byline customer for many years. The service was always acceptable. I have been using this branch (Belmont & Southport) since my return to Lakeview (2018). For the most part, the tellers have been very friendly and professional.. with the occasional crabby one. I've only dealt with the branch manager once. My worst experience was last year. My landlord had inadvertently taken out my rent TWICE in one month (via auto payment. which I have since disable) sending my account into over draft status. and I have NEVER been over drawn before NEVER. I called Byline's main number and got the surliest person imaginable. She treated me like a criminal. Basically communicating that she would not do anything (i.e. stop over draft charges while I got the situation resolved; refund OD charges, etc). Her message was clear: tough luck. In the meantime, they will keep charging over draft fees until I get it resolved. I went to the Belmont branch with borrowed money to cover the OD and fees. I explained the situation to that bank manager who was much nicer (at that moment) .. dismissed the OD fees etc. When I deposited the check from my landlord (to repay the money they had taken that caused the problem to begin with).. it bounced.. and I was back in the same situation. Again.. NOT MY FAULT. This time that bank manager had turned into another person.. it was my problem.. tough luck.. you had better get this taken care of.. in the meantime.. daily OD fees would be charged. Since I was dealing with TWO bureaucracies.. two inflexible institutions.. I had to to a lot of foot work to get the issue resolved. But the damage had been done. I now have TWO OD incidents on my record. Hundreds of dollars in OD fees.. FREE MONEY for Byline.. money they did not have to work for.. arbitrary fees that help their bottom line at my expense. This incident left a very bad "taste in my mouth." BUT... I prefer a local bank over a great big giant of a bank. But have been pondering a move to another bank or credit union since. Today, I was served by a surly teller. Just indifferent and bothered that she had to serve a customer. Or maybe she just didn't like the way I looked. I want people to know that this is more the nature of Byline than not. Grudging, mildly nice service sometimes.. Vicious, mean indifference others. PS: I have heard of people suing banks to get back OD fees.. looking into that

How lovely was it to walk in today and have employee Cynthia L. greet my husband and I warmly: "nice to see you! It's been a while!" It only gets better: she remembered the model of car that we were purchasing when we got a cashier's check from her A YEAR AGO! She remembered that she had the same birthday as my husband. Wow. When you live in a big city, sometimes you feel so anonymous as you go through your day. I can say that that wasn't the case today at Byline. Thanks so much, Cynthia!

This bank reminds me a dealing with a large cable company. If you enjoy dealing with that kind of situation that is a great place for you.

Based an past reviews went out of my way to Byline Belmont branch to open a new account--new Chicago resident. Ed Jaeky was the most helpful banker I have ever encountered and so friendly. Offered local information to help me get settled, helped me set up online profile, and told me he would follow-up which I have ever confidence he will. Right decision to rely on Google reviews and to go to Byline Belmont.
