Ordering family style was brilliant. The soup was hearty, and I tried several of the appetizers and entree offerings, all flavorful and fresh. The dessert sampler and espresso capped off a terrific evening. Highly recommended.

We went to cafe Habibi thinking that we will get fresh homemade iraquí food. The server was wonderfully attentive, and this the only reason why I am giving it two stars. She was the server, the cook, manager and everything. We were tempted to leave, the place was completely empty! However, we decided that it would be a "different" experience to eat alone, the only couple. At the end....don't we look for different experiences when we go out to dine? Well, this was one of a kind. The server/Chef/hostess/manager made our dinner a little more enjoyable. The appetizers were really fresh. The main entrees were not so fresh and lack the tasting of other similar places. The coffee was prepared fresh and the best desserts were the dates with cream. I have to be honest with the review. I don't see how this place is going to continue to be open. Don't waste time and money....unless You want to dine in a empty restaurant or if you want to have the whole place for yourself.

This recently opened Middle Eastern restaurant is a find. Located on Diversey there is actually on-street parking. Chef Isabella has 20 years of experience preparing middle eastern food, and she presents it with flair. Four of us visited the restaurant and enjoyed family-style service whereby we could sample everything. It all began with a turnip and spinach soup with a distinct lime flavor. Then Isabella presented us with a large platter of appetizers including the freshest tabouli I have had, and I make my own! Then came the entrees: a large plate of lamb and ground beef and a second plate with amazing seafood, the most delicate sea scallops, salmon, shrimp, and so on. Vegetables were the king of both plates, with fresh red peppers, onions and cucumbers, among others. All of this was accompanied by a tray of sauces, each with a special paring in mind. I am not a dessert person, but the delicate chocolate mousse surrounded by oodles of the freshest fruit was fabulous. I ate every bite. I look forward to returning to Café Habibi. You shouldn't miss it.

Wow! Truly a diamond in the rough. In an area ruled by taquerias, this place is great out the ordinary option. Upon entering I was immediately greeted by the hostess and owner (Jamal). I was blown away by the ambiance; knowing what this place looked liked before the restaurant renovation, the transformation was simply amazing. Now, as far as the cuisines go, the food can be described as fresh, plentiful, reasonably priced and flavorful. My good friend Alan and I enjoyed freshly made hummus with wholesome pita wedges. I had the lamb and eggplant stew which was a revaluation. this was the first time ever having lamb and I am pleased to say "will" be indulging in lamb again. On a side note, they offer lamb burgers and will be ordering that next time. We also order the lemony yet scrumptious turnip and spinach soup that has a meat filled dumpling surprise in the center. The beef kufta kabobs was point, grilled to perfection with it's succulent melody of flavors and complementary mango and pickled salad. But the one thing that made our meal unforgettable was the warm welcome we received by owner Jamal who was genuinely a gentle soul, and chef Pete came out to check on us also. What a first experience; mind blown. Ohh yea the baklava and coffee was an out of this world night cap. " I will be returning to Cafe Habibi soon hungry for more" in my Anton ego voice lol

The lamb was very delicious. The salmon was great as well. I had several of the dishes and I liked all of them. Service was good too, very attentive. This place is good for home cooked Iraqi food. The place is newly opened in the neighborhood and I hope them well. I'll be coming back again soon. Oh!! The squash and lentil soup was great as well, I highly recommend it.
