The Chicago History Museum is a well done and terrific museum loaded with Chicago history. It is home to millions of artifacts and great artifacts, including very cool dioramas and cool exhibits like the first L train and a wood-powered train. The exhibits are well curated and surprisingly engaging, doing a great job of telling Chicago’s story in a way that feels alive and meaningful. The spaces are laid out thoughtfully with a good mix of artifacts, interactive elements, and narrative displays. It provides a great learning experience to understand Chicago's history and great events, enriching the understanding of the city for locals and visitors. The museum is not huge but substantial, and visitors should plan on at least two to three hours to absorb everything. It is a very worthwhile stop and a great way to spend a couple of hours. Parking is available in their lot for a reduced rate with validation. The museum staff is very kind.
Good getaway with people who make the experience better

Certainly a lot to see and read, lots of interesting history I wasn't aware of. Relatively timeless exhibits. I spent 3 hours on the second floor but need to go back because I didn't even get through it all and didn't have time for the first floor at all.

This is a really well done museum. Whenever I am in a new place I try to visit a history museum or historical society to learn a bit about the place; some are better than others. I took bus 36, which dropped me right off in front.
