Placing a loved one in memory care is one of the most heart-wrenching decisions a family can face. When we made the decision for our mother, we were filled with uncertainty, guilt, and fear. She had become increasingly agitated, weak, and confused in the months leading up to her move, and we were heartbroken watching her slip away in front of us. We didn’t know what to expect — we only knew she needed more help than we could give.
From the very first moment we walked through the doors of Hartwell Place, those fears began to soften. The staff welcomed us not just as new residents, but as family. Their warmth, kindness, and patience were exactly what we needed at a time when our hearts were so heavy. They listened. They reassured. And most importantly, they treated our mom with dignity, tenderness, and deep compassion — the way we would if we could still do it all ourselves.
The transformation in our mother has been nothing short of extraordinary. She is calmer now, more grounded, and surrounded by people who truly see her — not just as a patient, but as a person. Every day, the staff at Hartwell provides not just care, but loving care. They take the time to engage with her, learn her preferences, speak gently, and meet her where she is emotionally and mentally.
The facility itself is immaculate, peaceful, and beautifully maintained. It is clear that the team here takes pride in every detail — from cleanliness and safety to communication and programming. The atmosphere is calm, welcoming, and above all, filled with heart. We never have to wonder if she's okay — because we know she’s in a place that treats every resident as someone’s beloved parent, not just another room number.
Hartwell Place has given our mother back her sense of peace — and given us, as a family, the gift of knowing she is safe, respected, and loved. We will never be able to thank them enough for the difference they’ve made in her life and in ours.
With deep gratitude,
Julie

We moved mom into Hartwell place this past summer. It’s a lovely, well run, clean, friendly memory care
home for my mother who has Alzheimer’s. They are very kind and responsive. It is a smaller, more intimate setting than many of the other homes we visited. Mom is in a much better space since moving here!

Hartwell is full of dedicated individuals whose only mission is to care wholeheartedly for their residents. Very rarely does one find a jewel like this during their search for assisted living facilities!

My sister and I were looking for a place near one of us for my mother with dementia several years ago. We found Hartwell and they cared for her nearly to the end of her life. We can't say enough good things about Hartwell. The small size and outstanding staff gave her continuity of care, individual attention, participation in activities and new people to be with. Her needs were met with precision. Staff are always responsive to family and work with residents and families in full partnership. There are two unique things about Hartwell. It is a dedicated memory-care facility where staff are trained specifically to work with people at this stage of life. Everyone and everything is devoted to helping individuals like Mom with their different needs. And it is affordable because it is, as one director told us, "a true non-profit," whose sole objective is the well-being of the residents. When Mom required skilled care late in life, Hartwell helped with a seamless transition to Wesley Place which made things easier for her and us. Thank you always, Chicago Methodist Senior Services!

My mother lived at Hartwell for over two years and the level of care was wonderful. Not only did they tend to her mental and physical health, they also cared for her spiritually and emotionally. Their music and arts programs are engaging and so important for dementia residents. The one on one approach and loving care was so appreciated. We felt like family.

A superb provider of affordable senior services in Chicago, with excellent training and professional advancement programs for their staff. Memory Care and rehabilitative services are two of their specialties--both with top-notch caregivers. In-home services are reliable and person-centered.

They’re customer service is poor. Rude would best describe over the phone interaction and the people here express no positive culture.
