It's not often you find a restaurant in Chicago with as high as 4.8 stars. But now I understand. Ignotz is a very special place run by owners who put their full hearts in their business. I had the pleasure of setting up a catering order for a group at Cinespace. And I say pleasure because Roger (owner) was so friendly, warm and accommodating. My budget was relatively small so I was very moved that he was willing to open shop a couple hours early to take care of our lunch catering order. We ordered a bunch of pizzas and salad. I was SO EXCITED when we opened the boxes and discovered it was the classic Chicago square cut, thin crust style. Every single pizza was so delicious. Loved all the specials! My only regret is not ordering more of their "Italian Beef" pizza. That one was devoured in mere minutes, haha. Next time, I hope to go to Ignotz in person because I've heard such great things about the cozy atmosphere and great food. Thanks again Roger & Joan!!

Go and sit at the bar with Sasha, you will not be disappointed! He is awesome and we try to frequent on weekends when we know he’ll be there! My friend and I have sat with him twice and both times the service was on point. I prefer the interaction at the bar and the service is top notch with Sasha.

Best baked clams in Chicago. Ravioli, Lasagna, meatballs, everything I've had has been excellent! When I have to have Italian, this is the spot.

Chicken vesuvio the way it should be. In reality only in this small neighborhood called heart of Chicago. Can you get chicken? Vesuvio that's really done right.

My first experience walking down the "alley" to Ignotz was over 15 years ago. I am from out-of-town, so anytime I am in the city, I try to make it to Ignotz. When I bring friends or family to Chicago for the first time, Ignotz is my go-to place to take them. Why?1) It is great local fare. The customers are locals. The servers treat you like family. I enjoy hearing a good Chicago accent still heard by customers.2) The food is fantastic. The food is so fresh. It starts with warm bread accompanied by butter and roasted garlic with olive oil. My go-to is always the Vodka Rigatoni. It's hard to define the nuanced deliciousness that comes together for a taste sensation. I ordered it with a simple salad (crisp ice-berg lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, pepperoncini, olives, and a great house salad dressing--italian (of course). My son came with me on my last journey. He ordered the Alfredo Fettuccini with chicken. He loved it. I finish every meal there with Tiramisu. The Tiramisu is the best I have had--it has officially ruined this dessert for me, it is that good.3) Service is great. Sometimes they are cheeky, for example, I was unable to finish my rigatoni (soo much), but I still had room in my dessert stomach. The server said, "no tiramisu if you don't finish your meal." All of it in good fun. Drinks were always topped off. Check-ins were efficient but not obsequious. If you are looking for local fare with superb food , quaint setting, and in the winter a fire in the fireplace, this is the place for you. Make sure you get reservations for dinner.

Very family friendly, prices are reasonable. Me and my friends love to come here. We enjoy their fried calamari and bruschetta appetizer, along with their vodka rigatoni pasta for dinner.

Best 'boutique' Italian Ristorante we have EVER been to. Owners are long-time family friends, and the chef & waitstaff outdo themselves each and every time! The cuisine is absolutely delicious, and if you make the trek to the 'Heart of Chicago'/Lower West Side neighborhood, it will be well worth your while. Tell them Patti Zubek Zeleznak & Randy Zeleznak recommended it on Google, and that's how YOU found out about it. They've even closed off that section of the street & set up outdoor dining along with a few other Italian restaurants on the same street/block out on S. Oakley Ave. It's as nice as can be at this time of the year.
