My elderly client couldn't get an appointment by phone service is automated.... couldn't do online either...we went in person Wednesday 230 S Dearborn ( not busy) to the office to be told come back on Saturday 03-11-23...too many people in line outside ..one man in the line passed out called ambulance...mom's with kids crying outside in the cold waiting... I held my client place in the line 4 hours in the cold in 35 degrees temp...so she could stay warm by Dunkin Donuts across the street... finally let everyone in last 15 min before closing then kicked everyone back outside to be seen one by one with staff in the main lobby ..only seen 5 IRS agents ... promise my client a callback...2nd trip to IRS...very unprofessional....I took videos can't upload hereIf your Muslim woman wearing full hijab covering from head to toe be prepared to be frisked by security guards...they will ask female guard to look under your dress... happened today took long time for her to go upstairs with her husband to IRS office...very embarrassing to watch from outside to see her being examined under her dress

My online filing for Federal Tax return has been approved, but my online filing state Tax return rejected due to my spouse's ID/PIN issue. Where do I send a copy of my state tax returns?

This is the worst, worst, worst IRS in the USA. From absolutely rude staff treating people worth great disrespect to lack of employee planning, making people wait unreasonable length of time and absolute harassment of the US people. So embarrassed of this office.

Was on the phone for 30+ min on hold for this man to pick up and say they don’t help you out with revisions you may need that all they do is mail it for you as you could do yourself and I’m like oh okay then but before I finished my sentence he hangs up on me. So rude!!

Don’t try and resolve your tax issues here, the location is CLOSED for at least another 2 weeks. Wish I didn’t lose $15 on the Lyft it took to get there only to spend more to get back, but their hours are not updated. The security guard there was extremely friendly.

I went to the IRS today October 17th at 9 a.m to drop off my taxes for year 2017. I had to correct error that I made with my last name. Didn't change it on my SS after I got married.I needed the lady to stemp my taxes so I can get my home loan approved. The two African American ladies were super nice and helpful.Big thank you to them that made my day so much easier !

You'll be pleased with your visit If you make an appointment. Mr Burrow was professional and nice. Things were taken care efficiently, and I was done before my actual appt time.

When I visited the office, a lady was almost dominating everything in the reception desk. She never listened to me and just gave me a piece of paper which shows several phone numbers of IRS (they're so hard to reach; it takes forever!) with an arrogant attitude. I am a taxpayer. Why do I have to be treated like that?!

LeslieI have never had the displeasures like I've read in the reviews to visit the IRS Chicago office. However, I have had bad experiences talking to IRS staff by phone, etc.. To write them is like communicating with non human computerized letters with no sign a living person wrote it. None of the letters I received bared a wet ink signature, just a computer printed name. Unfortunately, for me, last week while searching property in my name at Cook County Recorder, to my surprise I read that a federal lien was filed against me only. My spouse and I filed our taxes jointly and got refunds. They just filed the bogus Civil Penality lien of about $80,000++ under my social security number only. I know for a fact that I am in a certain targeted group by the IRS in Chicago. The lien is bogus and not based on any tax forms using my SSN, that was signed and filed by me with the IRS. Whats really sad is that it doesn't even bare a printed name and signature to identify the Chicago IRS agent who prepared and/or filed it. In dealing with them, by correspondence, I have learned that it's hard to put up a fight with ghost writters. Ghost writers can't be held accountable for letters they send out, because they can defend that they didn't sign it. I see it as a way to sometimes shield against liability. They never filed a tax law suit in fefersl tax court against me, yet can file a bogus, frivolous ghost federal lien. I hear on goggle search that some people are pushing to pass a bill to "Abolish the IRS"!!! They certainly got my support.

This is the most unprofessional place I have ever been in.The lady stands in the front of the place yells at you asking what are you there for all out load in front of everyone letting everyone know ur business! I turn around and goes to the Orland Park office the lady sits behind a desk and talk to you not everyone else in a professional tone and as a adult!

Terrible service!!! Waited over an hour on the phone to have my transcript faxed and I gave up after getting dropped. After waiting for the first 30+mins I spoke to a person who said the system was down so I would have to start from the beginning and call again. The second time waiting another over 30+mins the person couldnt hear me for some reason and hanged up on me when I said wait while I tried to remove my headsets and speak directly to the phone. I'm not calling again! Been trying to get my transcript for school's financial aid for over 2months and I feel cursed!! I tried getting it mailed through phone 2 different times and it never arrived. I tried online and it asks information about owning a house or car for verification but I have none of those so we can't do it online unless you owe what's asked for. Unbelievable!

I have been to the office on Dearborn 3 times in the past 2 years. I have been greeted professionally, and have never waited more than 30 minutes. I give 2 thumbs up to this office.
