A lot of really interesting stories to be found here, and delightful things to see. Some of the standouts for me are the xray section and seeing a kidney stone the size of an orange.I think some of the displays could use a little help in making sure items have a number on them or near them so it's easier to immediately identify them. While not necessary, I think having some visual aids of how some of the old tools would be used would be fascinating and take the museum to the next level.

My friend (a nurse) came from out-of-state to visit this museum. We planned a whole day around it, even arranging childcare so that we could go. We drove in Chicago traffic over an hour to get there, and then drove around the neighborhood to find a parking spot. This is not a convenient place to get to, even in the best of times. When we arrived at 1:30pm, we were told they closed at 12:00pm that day for an event. This was mentioned no where on their website, socials, anywhere. Their posted hours on every single platform said they were open until 5:30pm that day. It’s hard to believe a world-class museum would forgot to inform the public that they’re closing 5 hours early, especially with the considerable effort most visitors would need to take to get there.

It’s worth a visit for anyone interested in medicine. However, I found the exhibition to be very poorly curated and the overall preparation was not very successful. There would be a lot more in it. The shop is also not recommended, and there is no catalog or anything similar that you can usually buy in museums.Bus stops almost in front of the door.

This was an interesting museum. The admission is $25 and the place is kind of small. However, you can look at some antiquated surgical tools and artwork. Healthcare workers will probably find this much more intriguing than the general public, general public will most likely spend an hour or less here. Very informative on the history.

I visited shortly after becoming a surgical technologist, so learning more about the history of surgery was specially fascinating. It was a nice museum overall, 10/10 I would go again :-)

The museum was set up for an event and subsequently covered a lot of the displays and moved the information cards. It was impossible to know what we were looking at. It was a very disappointing experience after looking forward to it. If you go, make sure they don't have other things going on. They will charge you full price for you to not be able to read half the information.

Very small museum but it had a really nice theme for Halloween. Buy tickets in advance to save money.

I've been here three previous visits when was very happy with bringing someone who had been there before. Their website is very clear that there have been closing for setup for a party for Halloween. What it doesn't disclose is that several rooms are typically were available with displays now we're closed because of the party other rooms that were open add less exhibits. One room had a cough and haphazardly shoved in so you basically couldn't walk into the room another room that look like it was an old drugstore I think that stuff placed in the front of it so you couldn't walk in at all. I did call up the museum after the fact and expressed my opinion that I paid a hundred percent admission fee and received about 50 to 75% and what typically is available that wasn't correct. The person I spoke to agree with pass it up the chain. That really helps me a lot I said and ended. So I would make a phone call before you go make sure that you're going to get 100% of what you're paying for and not less.

Great trip in history. Top floor even pays homage to nurses and assistants. Definitely worth a trip. History of house is also fun.

Awesome museum to check out! There are four floors to wander about and each room is more interesting than the last! There is an elevator in the building, but it is an antique and can only be run by staff members. They do a good job of cooling the building in the summer despite them only having fans and window units. Great gift shop!

My visit to Chicago, this most recent go around, was to truly dive into the cultural and architectural experiences the city is pregnant with! The International Museum of Surgical Science was one of many stops in our (my best friend and myself) museum tour of the city. And what can I say! What a great experience! The museum staff were just so completely nice. The beautiful architecture of the museum itself was just magnificent. The history within the museum was fascinating. It was truly interesting see how far medicine and surgical science has evolved over the decades throughout all of history in the world. Though we didn't do a guided tour - which is an option - we did take our time to go through the varying exhibits. The gift shop was also great and if you're big into unique gifts, it's definitely worth paying a visit. Overall, a great experience. As an architectural designer (by profession), I definitely indulged in the overall aesthetic and looks of the museum itself. Also, as a designer of primary healthcare architecture, it was super cool to see equipment I've specified in projects today in their earliest states / design. It's always cool seeing how design in healthcare has evolved. Anyways, definitely pay this museum a visit! It's jam-packed with gems!
