The lobby is basically a closet - whole first floor is under construction.

I wouldn’t recommend staying at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Chicago at this time. The hotel is under renovation which translated into an overall poor experience. My room smelled of paint, and most of the amenities within the facilities weren’t available including the main restaurant, gym, etc. The staff gave me a daily pass for a nearby gym which wasn’t ideal, as the gym wasn’t open 24hs and closed at 9 pm

We had stayed here shortly after Kempton came to town and a couple of times since. Those times, it was a grand combo of elegance and fun. Even a gold fish to share your room if u wanted. That was then. This is now....The ground floor and restaurant are non functional for all practical purposes due to construction/renovation. There is a checking desk but it is surrounded by constriction plastic curtains screaning everything offvbutvthe pathvtovthe elevators. There is miniscule temp signage in front. The large lettering saying Monaco is torn down with holes, etc, in the wall. Unless u know the place, u wouldn't find it. Frankly, I wonder if they are becoming a different brand/name.The rooms look like a Spring Hills Suites but less fresh in design. I like that brand, but not for what this brand has been or price. It has a very weird vibe; a carpet in a print that looks like a dark black brick road with grey morter, no coffee maker, a hidden fidge u can't open, shower head mounted so high even a 7 ft. Tall person would have a stretch (no, not ceiling mounted). The only real positive was a comfortable bed. There was also quite a bit of noise inside and out.The one outstanding individual/experience was Antonio, the doorman. He absolutely should be a concierge. Kind, knowledgeable on restaurants, concerned about our visit. He is a true gem.Nearby activities: Convenient to the river, a block off Michigan Ave. Close to the mellinium park, symphony hall, art institute, and theater district. Nearly all the l likes are within 5 minutes walk.Safety: Pretty safe. Chicago has made great efforts to protect city areas where visitors are frequenting. While there has been publicity, it has frankly been overblown. Crime is down here.Walkability: Very walkable to major sites, including culture, arts, business, or shopping

The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Chicago is an amazing hotel! Its prime location between the Bean and Magnificent Mile puts you right in the center of the action. The rooms are incredibly spacious with breathtaking views of the city skyline, ours had an amazing window sill that overlooked the river. Cleanliness is top-notch, and the staff is exceptionally kind, making check-in and check-out a breeze. For a memorable stay in Chicago, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco is the perfect choice! If I come back to Chicago this is exactly where I will be staying. The lobby was closed at the time that I stayed because it was under construction, but honestly it truly didn't make a difference in the stay and everything was still very easy to access. Great location, staff, services, and more. I highly recommend!!!

Caroline was phenomenal! She was super patient, accommodating, and thoughtful throughout my entire trip. The room was also nicely designed and comfortable.

I booked a room at the Hotel Monaco months ago. I chose Monaco over Hotel Gray because I had stayed at Gray previously and thought I wanted to try something new. I booked a Kimpton because usually they're beautifully appointed and a bit luxurious. I also chose it because it has a restaurant onsite and I was arriving after ten plus hours of flying. There was no notification that the hotel is under renovation when I booked, nor did I receive an email indicating it was under renovation. When I checked in, the front desk staff assured me that room service was available. Because of the construction, only one of two elevators was functional. I waited seven minutes to go to my floor from the lobby. The room was large, but a little low rent for a Kimpton. The seating area consisted of a desk chair, with an overloaded power strip directly behind it. I showered, changed into pajamas and the always-perfect Kimpton robe, and picked up the phone for room service only to find the kitchen was down due to the construction. I got dressed again and schlepped out to a local restaurant. Upon returning, the bed was of great comfort. All of the pillows were perfect and I had great sleep. Before checking out, I went down to the "breakfast buffet". It was similar to what you can expect at a Holiday Inn Express, except most of the serving stations were empty. The host said more food was on its way down. I waited 15 minutes and nothing more arrived. The sausage, undercooked potatoes, and a glass of orange juice cost $23.72. The two stars are for the Atelier Bloom bathroom products, the bathrobe, and the bed. I won't be booking the Monaco again.

We had stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and we were pleased we arrived 2 days ago to find under construction. The lobby was closed which was one of the best parts of the hotel. When we got to the room we thought it was a mistake since it basically had no furniture beside the bed. No couch no chairs just a bizarre coffee table and a backless low stool. God forbid both of us wanted to sit down at the same time. When I asked for another room I was told all the rooms were the same as part of their redesign so no lobby and no seating. We cancelled and moved to the virgin down the street.Rooms: As previously stated inadvertently furnished

We had a lovely stay in December! Please Ignore any reviews complaining about construction in the lobby area! It didn’t take away from our stay in any manner. The hotel staff were amazing and the rooms were lovely and walking distance from everywhere! Antonio Santizo welcomed us like old friends and enjoyed his hospitality so much we were so sad to say goodbye! Definitely recommended staying here!

Under construction but the website/reviews mentioned it. However it was not an issue. For me, a one day hotel stay comes down to 2 things. Ease of check in and quality of room. Check in was easy. Staff were quick and efficient. Plus very friendly. Room was sized as advertised. Bathroom was a bonus. Large space. Of course it was clean and tidy as well. Recommend.Walkability: Great location.

All in all we had a five-star six-night stay in the Hotel Monaco - a Kimpton hotel in the loop, Chicago. The location is excellent - right next to the river and great for walking to all kinds of attractions and for using public transport. All of the staff we met were lovely and helpful. We stayed at the end of December and so the hotel lobby was unavailable as it was undergoing renovations - which was a bit of a disappointment - but there was tasty coffee, water and seating avaliable on the third floor in a space that was ok. The gym was reasonably well equipped and quiet every morning. The room we started our stay in (a 2-bed Queen with a river view) was cosy but unfortunately it had an adjoining door to the neighbour who was wildly loud. Thankfully the front desk staff were kind enough to move us to a suite that didn’t have such a great view but was large, comfortable and blissfully quiet. In both rooms the beds were nice, there was plenty of wardrobe/drawer space for our clothes and the bathrooms were great. I would certainly stay in this hotel again - providing I had the right room - as it’s a great base to explore amazing Chicago!Rooms: Comfy rooms but those with adjoining rooms may be noisy.Nearby activities: The Riverwalk, the Art Institute and the American Writers Museum are all short walks away and great.Safety: I always felt safe at this hotel.Walkability: A great spot to walk along the river, to lots of attractions, bars and restaurants and to the L.

The lobby works are a bit of a pain, Kimpton lobbies are often nice! Aside from that our experience was good. Our initial room had a connecting door and a nightmare neighbour, eventually we had to request to move, and we were kindly moved to a suite which was perfectly quiet. The staff couldn't have been more helpful throughout. Great experience.

I was inspired to leave a review because I’m convinced they bought their shower heads on Aliexpress. It looks like a rain shower head, but it’s about 2.5”x2.5” so you’re getting hit with a tiny stream of water while 95% of your body freezes. This is what happens when management doesn’t have to take a shower in their own hotel. The place was fine otherwise.
