Has to be the most WORST location. I live in the neighborhood, unfortunately, it's the closest thing if I have an emergency. I'm always reluctant to swing in because it's always the same. Let's start: I don't know if they're pumping something into the air system, because every employee moves slower than molasses. The store looks completely disorganized and messy. There's constantly loud music and people are spontaneously dancing within the isles. Now I understand why my neighbor refers to this location as "THE WIZ". it's a catastrophe, entertaining, and funny! I haven't even mentioned how painful it is to check out. Every time I've shopped there... There are so many people in line, waiting to check out! And when I say this, if you have ever been in this location, you can agree...there are always so many people waiting in the lines... LONG lines! The staff are NOT motivated and the location had a limited number of cashiers. Also no more than (6) self-checkout lanes are active. Seems like plenty... but it's not because they don't limit how many items you can have in the self-checkout. Normally it's 15 or less... Oh, no! Not at this place! Expect to wait...standing... in a long line. They allow people to use self checkout with their carts filled with over 50+ items, it's absolutely ludicrous. It also explains why the self-checkout line goes all the way to the back of the store. It was nice to have Mariano's added to the neighborhood. It was a welcoming addition to Bronzeville! However, this location is abysmal. it needs a major overhaul: managerial, staffing, and a customary code of polite behavior. FAIL!

My last visit in November 2023 was very disappointing And disturbing. I had not been to this location on 39 and King Dr in over a year due to a previous incident of poor customer service. The checkout person had no training or did not care if they provided the proper service. I asked to speak to the manager, who immediately accused me of being mean to the service person. So now I know why the service is poor, the management needs training too. I'm done with this location, it is convenient but not worth it.

Just moved to the community from the north side and what a difference a few miles make. Customer service is horrible and the store is dirty. I guess I will be driving north for my groceries. What a shame! Do better people, please!

Each time I shop in this store, at least one of twenty items is wrongly priced when you come to the cashier. Today, grapes were $1.49 but rang up at a completely different price. When I asked the cashier, she corrected the price without much ado and the price fell around $4. The three large avocados were announced at $5 but rang up at 5.99 - or was I wrong? Much confusion is going on and each time I leave items at the cash register because the price seemed different from what I remembered. It has never been transparent to me as customer what the prices are and I meanwhile memorize them, so I can check at the register. Sometimes they do not indicate prices at all. Today, for example, string beans had no price tags. When asking customer service about what seemed to be systemic mis-pricing or constant confusion referring to the grape price, I was three times told that they 'can fix this for me' - even though I explained three times that the cashier had already been taking care of this one specific case today and that I wanted to let them know that this was more of a systemic issue that completely confuses customers. I feel sorry for the workers in the store. I hope customers will stand up against systemic confusion and misinformation in this store.

RATS! I shop here when I need something quick but every time I try to come it's never quick. So last night I went just to pick up a case of water and I ended up going to chip aisle and seen a HUGE RAT! It ran across the aisle. They always only have 1 side of their self check outs open so the lines are terribly long! They need to hire a sanitation crew and pest control! Just because it's in a black neighborhood doesn't mean we shouldn't get the same quality others get!!!

Mariano's in Bronzeville should be ashamed to sell its bone in chicken breaststroke! As soon as I got home, I began to prepare the chicken for storage yesterday. I opened it and it smelled quite questionable the next day I threw the chicken away. I lost a little over $8. I've noticed in the past when ordering cold cuts that the person cutting the meat had to place the first slice in a bag hanging from the counter where the meat was cut. Why? So, I asked. The person said the manager asked me to do this. (This incident happened last year). My obtaining a ServeSafe certification taught me much. Marianos do you behave like this (giving bad meat) in all neighborhoods?

The manager for customer service was very rude, dismissive and unprofessional. Terrible location to shop. I believe his name was Reggie.

I want Mariano's to survive because our community NEEDS grocery stores. But good lord, this location is just terrible. The customer services is abhorrent.Tonight, I saw a GIANT RAT--yes, a GIANT RAT run across the baking aisle. I thought I was seeing something, until I heard a woman in the next aisle screaming they she, too, saw the rat. I understand that pests need to be controlled and that we live in a city. But when rats are bold enough to run out in the open when people are walking the aisles?! That's a TERRIBLE sign of a full blown infestation. I just don't think I can shop at this location any more.

Mariano's is a subsidiary of Kroger . I wonder would if I could have used my Kroger card. I probably could have saved some money. Anyway this store had what I need which was bottle water. FYI:The City of Chicago charges a Bottled Water Tax. It applies to the retail sale of bottled water in the City at a rate of $0.05 per bottle of water.

This store has taken a turn for the worse. The bakery is poorly represented with items that are in other stores but not this one. The fried chicken 2/12 is salty, fried extremely hard to the point that it was dry. Dirty products on shelves.

I like the grocery store for the most part but everytime I buy chicken I have to throw it out because of the color.

I called the bakery on this Friday morning to inquire about placing a order for a cake. Conversing with the young woman went great. She explained everything and was very helpful. However when I arrived to the bakery this afternoon, it was anything but that! The woman first mishears when I want to pick up the cake and begins going on a tangent, saying things like, "why y'all always wait until the last minute" blah blah. When I corrected her and inquired about flowers, she begin telling me all the things they couldn't do and saying I would have to bring in decorations. Said they can only make roses when the freezer, currently includes cakes with different kind of piped roses on different cakes. Her entire demeanor didn't want to take my order from the start! Annoying!!

The new owners have ruined this store. There used to so much life and quality now it's gone. Old food and poorly stocked shelves have become the new normal. A terribly managed store. Sad!

My favorite grocery store. Good selection of items. Wide aisles. Great meat department.
