I’ve just decided I’m going to post the out of date and rotten items I find on every single trip to this poor excuse of a store. It’s 10/31/22. This mayo expired 9/26/21… which was 13 months ago. That tells you every single thing you need to know about this store. Sadly I forgot to take a pic of the rotisserie chicken that was 6 days past its sell by. They were nice enough to put it on sale though which seems fair for the salmonella. The skirt steak which was 2 days out and a lovely shade of gray. The cottage cheese last week that was 2 weeks out of date. That review is below. Spend the extra money and go to Whole Foods across the street. The extra money you spend on food will still be cheaper than the hospital bill you’ll eventually get shopping from here.

Watch out for expired food, overcharging for shopping bags, and your receipt for incorrect prices on sales items. Also, it is short staffed and the escalators are permanently out of service.

Was followed around by their security ridiculously today, for no reason. Very little attempt to be discreet about it.

Update: we went back Mariano’s to get lunch, the security guard on duty was so nice. I asked him where I could get a fork, he said you and your daughter sit down I’ll bring you one, so he brought us both forks and paper towel, such a gentleman. My daughter and I visited the store today after having a Stan’s donuts, and had a beautiful encounter with Joanne, she is a very special lady, and she made our day! She is a keeper and deserves all the recognition!

I shop at this location almost daily. That all changed this week (03/07/24) when I was walking down the aisle near the flower section and a MASSIVE RAT ran across the aisle and under one of the shelves. I told the customer service desk but doubt they’ll do anything. PROCEED WITH CAUTION when buying their freshly made food.

Too expensive

I've been coming to this store since it opened. It used to be really great, but it's getting really bad. Just a few examples: Every time I come in there are zero carts or baskets available so I have to go on a hunt to find one. A large percentages of items ring up at higher prices than the shelf tag shows. And we've had several issues of produce quality being very poor but only discovering it once we get home. Seems like they've stopped trying, which is odd given the competition of multiple other grocery stores within a few blocks.

A little Expensive

Very conveniently located in the West loop. However, would recommend getting any meat and produce from Whole Foods down the street. One big issue is that it is a pain to get a cart! In addition, they have many more large carts than smaller or medium carts. This makes it particularly frustrating when navigating through the aisles where they have stacked some product or put a display on the floor within the aisle, making it impossible for two carts to pass. Why would they do that? Finally, one small gripe. They seemed to have disabled the handicap door due to the cold. They have a sign saying, "please use revolving door". This is super frustrating for anyone with a disability or all the locals who bring a city cart and can't go through the revolving doors.

Ever wonder what it's like to go to the depths of Hell? Look no further and make a visit to this Mariano's. This location has progressively gone more and more downhill over the past couple of years that I've lived and shopped here. Specific issues below:1) Want a cart? Expect to spend 10-15 minutes of each visit searching for one. Usually you'll find yourself taking the elevator up to the rooftop to find them all scattered about the parking lot. Sometimes you will give up and decide to carry your entire shopping list in your arms instead.2) I know Mariano's doesn't turn customers away, nor should they, but this location seems to attract the worst behaved customers. Expect nobody to say "excuse me," - rather, people will run you over with carts as they barrel through the isles. There is rude and negative energy lurking around every corner.3) Want seafood? HIGHLY recommend going anywhere else - even the dumpster out back. Passing by the seafood section, your nostrils will be offended over the smell of rot. I have no idea how this place gets away with selling fish/crabs/shrimp that smell this bad.4) You absolutely must check the expiration dates on anything you buy. Frequently, expired food will be on the shelves.5) Produce is almost never fresh- usually nearing expiration. Basic things like garlic are always out of stock. Salad is usually wilting and brown. Recommend buying no produce here.Today I finally met my wit's end- I've experienced this nightmare of a place enough that I'm refusing to go back. I do not care how many coupons Mariano's sends me to entice me to return. If you ever find me in this Mariano's again, it' because I've been dragged in there against my will. Take it from me- go to Whole Foods (a block away), spend the extra buck, and save yourself the headache and possible food poisoning. Your mental and physical health will thank you.

This location (west loop on Halsted) is gross and filthy.Last week a rat ran in front of my shopping cart in the cracker aisle. There are never any shopping carts at the entrance. So the first step in shopping there is hunting down a cart from either the parking lot or somewhere in the store.Always check the expiration dates on every single product you buy because they are often expired. The escalators and elevators are always broken. This store needs an intervention from the Health Department and Marianos Corporate..

The staff at this store is amazing, and everything was easy to get too and the store was very clean. I also meet the store Manger and she was very friendly and helpful.

I called to confirm hours on Christmas Eve. I had to quickly grab something from the deli. I got there over one hour before they closed and the girl was already closing up. I asked if they were closed and without even looking at me, she mumbled something under her breath. I told her I didn’t understand what she said and she mumbled a yah, again under her breath. They should have that in the message when giving out hours and at the very least, she could look up at me to respond. I appreciate that you want to get home, but it takes zero time to be kind. So annoying!!!

Younger staff doesn’t have any leadership and it shows. It’s like the Wild West. Bad attitudes from everyone and such a lack of basic customer service. The west loop is my neighborhood and this grocer is absolutely terrible for it. I have bagged so many of my own groceries there that I’m hoping they put me on the clock soon. Today was the last day I ever go there.
