Sold me bad salmon. Layout is terrible as others have said, checkout took forever, and for whatever reason the same meal was about $15 more expensive versus other locations.

This is the worst location I've been in. I went there to grab a quick snack and intended to eat it in the dining area. There was no food at the hot buffet, the salad bar was very limited. I wanted to buy myself a soft drink, but there was nobody at the bar area. I bought a broccoli and cheddar soup and some sushi (nothing else was available) and headed to the cashier station. A young woman(the cashier) grunted something to me and pointed out to the self checkouts. I asked her where I could validate my parking ticket, she just pointed to the machine- no hi, no bye. She acted like she was mad at the whole world and her own existence. The floor in the dining area and for that matter in the entire store was filthy like it wasn't swepped and cleaned for days. I realize that this is a high traffic store, but this was 10 am! No napkins in the dispensers, no salt, no pepper, the bathroom on the second floor was nasty. I'm so glad I don't live around here... the Mariano's in my neighborhood is far superior and is a pleasure to shop there

I was in the store on Saturday 9.23 around 9pm. Security guard stopped me at the door asking for my receipt. I gave him the receipt. At no point did he verify items in my bag. There was a white man walking with no bag with things in his arms in front of me. Not that it matters the nasty security guard and I are both black. I believe he wanted to show he’s in control and ignorant. I am far from intimidating I will NEVER Ever go back to that Mariano’s again. I was offended. And feel singled out. I think security guard was posturing and showing off to his boss. Particularly since I was black too. Wish I could give zero stars.

Racist and prejudice people work there; the store’s “loss prevention” workers often follow/stalk black customers around the store while shopping. On the same note, the store can’t properly hire workers to keep the shelves stocked. Shop elsewhere if you’re a person of color.

Feng shue is awful and the vibe is sub par. They do have most of the things and have good operating hours. Convenient location. And parking. But how these guys manage to make a clean, well stocked modern supermarket feel like a post-apocalyptic wasteland...its a talent.

SAVE YOURSELF! AVOID! There are so many other options nearby! I have been to several Mariano’s locations in the city and none are as uniquely bad and sad as this one. My four year old son suggested we shop here after seeing it from the street. When we entered, the first thing we saw was a big screen above the sushi bar playing a WWII movie with extreme blood and gore, and usually I am not a censor but this was just bad taste- there were other children there too- it wasn’t even “funny-bad” … but we had gone to this floor because my son was very hungry and he just needed “something” after an active day. The single overworked and irritated chef there made us some fried egg rolls and we were headed to eat them in front of the jazz band playing around a wall from the cooking station (way too loud, but it’s only on Friday nights- their families were there to support them and they were done a great disservice by slapdash setup), but the staff immediately began to hassle us about when we’re we going to pay for a five dollar item(the egg rolls), leading me to the checkout station and making sure I paid. I tried to mention the movie where a man cries for his mother with his guts torn open but she couldn’t care less. The leering intrusive surveillance began from there.I feel wary about readers writing me off if I bring in the racial element, so take it or leave it, but I think it’s there. If you are a Chicagoan look at the location and read my mind. In any case by that time we lost interest in sitting down and sharing the snack before shopping because of how we were treated. So, we proceeded up the elevator with our cart (me,my wife, our infant son in a stroller and my 4 year old son in their taxi car shopping cart which was the only good thing about the place). Up on the grocery floor, the lights were dim, older couples were struggling to get the attention of the person at the bakery section; the whole thing felt dreary, disorganized and badly composed. I am not snooty about retail design, but I have been going to groceries stores since I was a fetus! This place was such a BUMMER.MY WIFE AND I WERE FOLLOWED AND LEERED AT by a team of employees with walkie talkies with nothing better to do. The only station with a staff member at it was the woman promoting vodka, bourbon and aperol. I walked to get our parking validated and the look that this one guy with a walkie talkie was giving my family was the last straw. We left with the egg rolls which we threw out when they cooled and some two-bite brownies that are great at other sites but were not good at this site. There are so many great grocery alternatives nearby from Trader Joe’s to Aldi to- well, look it up but please avoid if possible. If anyone has had similar experiences or has to deal with this place as a local let me know, or if this was just a bad timing fluke let me know, but it seemed to two Chicago-born and raised adults that something was amiss and did not merit our staying there. We were shocked when we drove out of the attached garage and were in such a pleasant place at sundown - we escaped!

The darn deli. Every time I want something from behind the deli counter. The Hispanic clerk redirect me to the things that are prepackaged. I don't want that I want what I a0sked for. She basically still refused to service me. Thank goodness it was another clerk on duty as well. Next time I will avoid this clerk all together and to a different store. She can't tell me how to spend my money

The store has a wide selection of products (wine, cooked food, and produce) but it is not cheap. The store layout is also very confusing. It feels like they initially had the second floor and everything on the first floor is an afterthought. There are never any baskets and all but one of the counters are often closed. I guess they don't need those counters open as there normally aren't any people shopping here.If you are looking for a more affordable grocery store with a more convenient layout, you may want to consider another chain.

It's in a convenient location, but I will say the lanes are always under staffed. Recently they stopped letting people do self checkout on a register with an actual belt, which makes checking out if you have more than a handful of items very difficult.I feel for the store as they have a shoplifting problem given the proximity to Noble Academy next door, and having to police dozens of kids at a time. But still it makes shopping very inconvenient.Cleanliness varies, often times things are under stocked especially near afternoon. If you're buying meat try to do it in the AM or they will be out. Often times the hot bar area can have an unusual smell. Finally a lot of the staff show contempt and disgust towards customers. When I purchase alcoholHere and self checkout, and then require someone to check my ID, consistently you can expect whoever is baby sitting the self checkout to look at me with a death glare for the inconvenience of having them get off their phone.

The worst Mariano’s location I have ever been to. I went there to buy a birthday cake. I asked for Chocolate Explosion but they gave me the wrong cake called Death by White Chocolate. Interesting choice of cake for a person’s birthday. I retuned to the store to ask why they sold me the wrong cake. The store associate started giving me attitude and was upset that I am asking for explanation. She told me that they don’t have the cake I want right now. Ok, and that means that you have to trick me into buying the wrong cake by lying to me that this is the cake I want? I requested to exchange the cake and this woman kept giving me attitude like I am wasting her time. The cake I got had one missing pice of chocolate from the decoration but I didn’t want to deal with these rude employees so I still bought the cake. Geez! Biggest mistake in my life! This was the most disgusting cake I have ever tried in my life. It was dry, old and disgusting. I ate few bites and felt nauseous so I ended up throwing away a $15 birthday cake. This location has a long history of selling bad food and I had to return grilled chicken from the hot bar numerous times through the years but this was by far my worst experience. This location has always been horrible and I don’t know why the store manager has not been fired yet. Thanks for ruining my 40th birthday! I will never buy birthday supplies from this dumpster again!

Definitely enjoy visiting this location; I frequent this one the most and have no issues navigating the isles. They always have the freshest produce, and meats and the prettiest floral selections. I also love when I am on time for the free samples, you never know when they will be out, but I love when I catch them.

Woof. I am done here. I have be going here three years because it is the closest place to my house. It is so stressful every time I go. I go midday to avoid crowds and they never have enough registers open and there are still long lines. And a few time have only had self check out open. The baggers use a bag for single items and waste so much, even when I bring my own bags they fill them a third full and move on. The people behind the meat deli completely ignore me, even after I request help. There prices are ok and their selection inconsistent. The mislabel sale items that don't ring up as on sale at the register. Also, all those cheese and hummus is on the first floor and it is a pain to get down their with a cart. I leave this place every week frustrated. I am going to start driving farther to go elsewhere.

It's such a shame. When Marino's first opened it immediately became one of my favorite grocery stores, but times have changed. This has always been an odd store as its two floors, but no easy way to get a cart between floors. They have a couple slow elevators, so I never went their for anything I could not carry in a basket. You need to park in a paid garage, and always were able to validate at store, but this time with validation i still had to pay $8. Or maybe the validation didn't work. Not sure and I'll never be back again to find out. And my carton of eggs would not scan in self-serve check out aisle. Hardly anyone shopping there and I can see why. Fortunately plenty of other options around so no need to go back.
