I had heard nothing but great things about this place when it comes to surrendering your dog and finding it a good home. So far I have been emailing them back and forth for over a month with no results. They have sent me the same questions four times. I don't know how many times I can tell them the same thing over and over again. The last time they wanted to know where I was located and what my ZIP code was. Is it because I live on the South Side of Chicago I can get no response or help from them? The neighbor who gave me the dog or should I say basically gave me no choice or she was just going to leave it when she moved may have been a bad owner because I swear my dog has PTSD.. Also has severe anxiety when I leave the house and will then chew things and go poo in the house even though she is potty trained. She will not do that when I'm home.. She will also wake you up at night if she has to go.. Usually about 4:00 a.m. Which is fine because I'm an early riser. I cannot continue to deal with her tearing my house up and using the washroom when I leave for work. I have to work or we'll both be out on the street..I let them know that so they can possibly find a foster parent who is equipped to deal with her. Because I feel if she gets adopted without her anxiety separation addressed with the proper training someone's just going to throw her out which would be a shame because other than the anxiety separation she is a sweetheart and very loving.. She is also in heat and not spaded nor does she have any shots. I asked if they could help me with that because I am low income and I don't want her to get pregnant.. She is part Husky and part I don't know what else. She is so sweet and lovable, I hate the thought of putting her in a shelter when I feel like she was already abused before I got her. Without the proper care I feel like that may happen again if somebody doesn't know how to deal with her. This place was my last resort before a shelter and I am heartbroken that I have to do that. If they couldn't help I wish they would have just been forthright instead of sending me the same thing over and over again and then asking me where I live and what my ZIP code was and giving me a shred of Hope.. What a horrible thing to do to a person and a pet.. Highly disappointed in this place..

I won't be working with One Tail at Time again after having a terrible experience. This organization does not disclose medical documents until you fully adopt the animal, which is unethical. They also tried saying that I only had 7 days to foster (when looking at the possibility of adopting the animal) and then I HAD to decide if I would adopt the animal at the end of that 7 days. If I didn't want to adopt the animal, I would have to go back to the previous foster, which makes no sense to me. Conveniently, the last foster could not take the pet back so I ended up being able to keep her for three weeks after they were hassling me about their one week rule. I decided not to adopt based on the unprofessionalism and lack of humility demonstrated by OTAT. I won't be fostering or adopting with them again in the future and recommend you go to one of the many other organization's that respect the foster homes/adoptees.

My sister rescued 6 puppies from Puerto Rico and after contacting well over a dozen shelters one tail at a time came through with care, compassion and guidance. Foster families you are amazing- thank you cannot begin to express our gratitude. I am committed to becoming a life long donator!

It was SO nice to walk into a home and meet the dogs in a living room instead of seeing them in a cage. The woman we first met made sure she understood exactly what we were looking for in a dog by talking to us first. Then we were able to meet a few, one at a time in the yard. We went home to consider and read about several more on their site. We returned a week later to decide on one of 3 dogs and went home that day with Duke. We were not rushed or talked into making a decision. The director spent all the time we needed with her to help us. We are very happy with our little guy!

As a cat foster, OTAT was one of my favorite organizations to work with due to their empathetic approach and timely assistance. Their transportation assistance and 24-hour emergency line are truly admirable and transformative, something very few organizations provide. However, I have decided to pause my fostering with OTAT due to a recent incident where Autumn insisted on splitting a pair of kittens for adoption, which goes against what I feel is best as a foster.
I took in 2 kittens when their previous foster needed to move. The previous foster referred to them as "nearly bonded," later explaining that she felt awkward marking all her kittens as bonded. From my observations while caring for them, I firmly believe these 2 kittens are bonded. When I learned that OTAT planned to separate them for adoption, I quickly posted on my social media to find someone willing to adopt them as a pair. Fortunately, 3 potential adopters expressed interest. Despite this, Autumn insisted on splitting the pair, stating that one adopter had been interested in one of the kittens for a while. This decision contradicts OTAT's policy of not placing holds on kittens. Also, I felt very disregarde, as Autumn only considered what the previous foster said and completely overlooked my observations even though I also took care of the pair. I have fostered more than 20 kittens, and this is the first pair I ever marked bonded.
With that being said, OTAT is still genuinely one of the best organizations due to their exceptional resource allocation abilities. I can totally see OTAT leading the transformation of animal welfare in numerous ways. I also want to extend special thanks to Ian, Gianna, and Stacy, who made me feel valued and very supported during my previous fostering experiences.

We had an amazing experience adopting from OTAT. They really took their time to make sure we were a good fit and were very knowledgeable. Thank you for helping us complete our little family!

I had a wonderful and seamless experience with One Tail at a Time! Jennifer, the adoption manager was so awesome working within my needs and was responsive!!! I'm sure I'm not alone in experiencing various shelters failing to return calls and emails! My expectations have been far exceeded as I was matched with an awesome dog who's just my speed! They also foster many of their pets, and Butters' foster parent was just as helpful in answering several questions and also quickly responded! Definitely check out One Tail! Their doggies are in real good hands!

Its officially been a week with my new cat and I've had some frustrations about how the adoption process went. I found my cat from their website. They explained how the adoption process is, how most pets are in fosters and if I wanted to meet and do same day adoption I could at their cafe place 2xs week but with their fosters you can't meet the pet before you adopt them. I was told I get a 7 day "trial period" and if it doesn't work out I could return them. Didn't find out till after I signed the paperwork and brought the cat home that the 100$ fee was nonrefundable so I had to pay money for a cat I couldn't meet. Then the cat I got seems to need more sapce/time to adjustment then what I was told. It's been a very slow process of her getting use to both me and my other cat. I was told by the foster that "she didn't have any response to other cats and would probably do fine but she couldn't keep her because HER cats didn't like her." It's been 8 days since I've had her and she's still hissing and swinging on my cat so I don't know if I was lied to about her behavior or what... Her needing to adjust isn't the issue but I definitely should have known this going in. I'm hoping she's still a good fit for me and my other cat as we're being patient with her but some days are a bit disheartening as she's not what either of us were looking for (at least currently).
