This place is so clean and the lady working here is so kind. She even helped me find a kimono that works for me and even showed me one that came with an obi. Very well kept and the shop was just the right temperature. The clothes are so nice too!

Maybe they were rude to me because I wasn’t a tourist. But this was by far the rudest encounter I’ve ever had in Chinatown. And I was born and raised in Chinatown. The owner was extremely hostile towards me from the moment that I walked in. I didn’t do anything wrong. She was very demanding, answering all of our questions so rudely. The owner even said right before I left the door in Cantonese : “she doesn’t even know what she’s looking for, why would she come here”. She didn’t bother waiting until I physically left the store to say this, she literally said this as I was leaving lol. I was looking for a dress, is it a crime to look around? Anyways, If you’re a tourist, she will probs be nice to you since she wants tourist money. But there are plenty of other gift shops in Chinatown where people do business much better. This lady clearly had no idea who she was talking to, and not to be cynical but karma is definitely real.

She is on the phone. "Hi, may I take a quick picture?" I asked politely. The lady responded, "no photo, goodbye." While this short poem pretty much sums up my 30-second visit at Oriental Boutique, it is also an acrostic that describes the lady's attitude and the service. I was looking for a traditional Chinese dress (i.e. Qi Pao) for my girlfriend, whom I am going to marry. However, most of the designs cater to kids or tourists (that might explain why most positive reviews were written by non-Asian customers... just saying!) and very few of them are for adults. As someone who grew up in an ethnically Chinese background, I had seen and worn more culturally authentic and better designed traditional gowns and dresses. Many designs displayed in the store seem "oriental" in a western sense or as in what westerners think "oriental" should look like, but this is just my subjective observation and honest opinion. The lady was on the phone all the time, and when I asked her question, she literally answered, "no photo, goodbye." Okay. BYE. NEVER AGAIN! Wish I could have given a zero or a negative number.
