Place sells food. Not good food. Bought vegetables and they wilted after like a day. How am I supposed to stay regular from all the cheeseburgers and beer I eat and drink?! GO BUCKEYES!!!

I'm done with this store. I went to shop for Fathers Day barbecue. Steals were advertised for T-bone and bone in Rib Eye. They had the steaks in a display cooler and they were all priced at regular retail. I asked the meat clerk who was on the sales floor about this, and he told me I needed to buy from full serve counter. He stated the person had not set it up yet and it would be awhile. I questioned the accuracy of his statement and he was very annoyed. I had already put produce and deli items in my cart and I left the cart there and walked out of the store. This is the second time I have had an issue with the meat department. The clerks are really bad at their jobs. They lost a customer and I will not be back. I did go to the Jewel on Broadway and guess what? Plenty of steaks in counter and marked correctly. Plus they got about $100 in liquor purchases from me as well. Southport deserves better, their used to be a manager named Steve who ran a tight ship at the Southport store. Not so much anymore!!

They didn't have baking soda. What kind of a grocery store doesn't have baking soda?

I had no choice today but to go to Jewel - Osco. I seldom go in here seriously because of the experiences I have heard from other people, but today I had no choice because I needed a quick grocery and this store is the nearest and just a walking distance away from my place. The store is clean but the moment I went inside I clearly saw that most of the products are not organized and some are not in stock. First I went to the produce section and some fruits and vegetables there were not fresh. I proceeded to the dry goods but I found an expired milk, like seriously? Does this store not know how to check their products? I was in a hurry and the good thing is the store is pretty big and spacious so I don't have a problem with that matter. I just found a few items based on what I needed and I headed to the checkout which had a long line and I waited about 15 minutes in the line. My overall experience was not really great, hoping for a good one next time.

The selection is pretty good and the store is clean and well-stocked. My issue with this store is the staff and the store's reluctance to follow the Covid mask requirements. This store is close to me so I go often and nearly every time there are multiple employees not wearing masks or wearing them incorrectly. Nearly every time there is an employee in the produce section as well as the deli without proper masking. they don't enforce the mask wearing for customers either when customers walk around without a mask. Despite living a block or so away I now go elsewhere for groceries when I can since this store isn't following Covid guidelines especially employees who are handling food. I brought up the mask issue once with customer service and one of the employees said I should "bring it up with Biden" not professional and not the practice of a business serving fresh food to people.

I think this Jewel needs a little more love on Yelp and I'm here to give to them! Sure, there are lots of great grocery stores in Chicago that are better than Jewel in many ways, but if you live in the area, its winter, and you don't have a car...you're going to Jewel. Produce at this location is DEFINITELY hit or miss. sometimes common produce items are not in stock and it can be super frustrating. The plus side is that they often have sales on various produce items. The charcuterie style cheeses are always STOCKED, so there's a plus! They typically have plenty in stock when it comes to pantry staples and prepackaged meats like chicken breasts, ground turkey, and sausage. The entire top floor is dedicated to alcohol and they actually have a really great selection! Local craft beers, more affordable wines and even pricer bottles like Opus One, and all the seltzers one could need. The biggest improvement as of late though is the self checkout that was added during the thick of COVID. This was a game changer, especially for this location. Previously, I would walk over to Jewel after work and wait in the check out line for half an hour, and sometimes even longer. Now I would say I never wait for more than 5-10 minutes. It has made shopping here so much more convenient! If you do drive, there is a large underground parking garage for you so you won't have to drive up and down Southport looking for a spot.

I've never been to a Jewel I've liked, and this one is no better. Their selection is incredibly poor (lots of common produce you'd find in other stores isn't available; Asian/Indian food sections take up a couple of shelves at most), their produce is in rough shape, their checkout is always very slow, and the store in general feels cramped and dirty. Avoid if you can.

This store is usually stocked well each time I come in to shop here. I often shop in the morning here and have not had a real problem like so many others have. I have gotten good deals from here and find that they keep it pretty clean here overall

Avoid this Jewel, one of their employees CHAD BILLINGS is a total racist. I went into this Jewel this Friday afternoon to do some grocery shopping. I entered from the parking garage underneath the store; and the carts are kept near the front entrance on Southport. I went into the store to look for an item, and then doubled back to the front entrance to get a cart. As I was walking to get my cart , this man Chad tells me to "drop it" and accuses me of stealing from the store. The basis of his accusation was that I had gone to a "high theft" area of the store, and I was now trying to leave (rather than get a cart). I was confused an bewildered. I showed him that the reusable bags I had brought where empty and even showed him that my pockets were empty except for my keys and wallet. He then proceeds to tell that someone "fitting [my] description" has been stealing from the store (I'm Indian). Even though it was fairly clear that I didn't try to steal anything, Chad proceeds to ask me to leave. I have encountered my share of blatant racism in my life but this experience was pretty ridiculous. I complained to the store's manager, Maggie, who was at least sympathetic and told me that I am not the first person to complain about Chad (and yet he continues to be employed by Jewel). Suffice it to say I am never going to this store again. This Jewel is by my house and it's fine, it's Jewel -- the packaged stuff is standard fare, the produce is subpar and the meat is sketchy. There are a million places I can go instead that don't treat their customers like this. Edit: Hello Dawn , thank you for your reply. I have submitted my experience on the contact Us page. If I receive a reply, I will post it here. I do hope that this feedback encourages Jewel to provide better training to your employees.

ANOTHER horrible experience here-The workers here don't seem to understand there is a pandemic and people are only going out every few weeks or month at most for groceries. The check-out experience was again a nightmare today, i had 1/3 my stuff on the belt while the guy before me was checking out and once he left and i was almost done the cashier looked up at me and literally said "do u want me to start now"? Sorry i assumed she was doing her JOB; I was trying to be helpful and put my stuff in order but the bagger was totally overwhelmed because of her delay, until he told me he was deaf and it took him 5 minutes to find bags with handles (which i didn't ask for) i didn't understand why he was spending 10 minutes trying to double-bag my stuff when i told him it wasn't necessary. Their "clearance" rack is now between the 2 bathrooms which is an adventure in itself in terms of social distancing but when i called tonight to inform the manager i did not get the clearance price on the 3 units of tomato juice i bought Dawn said she was the manager and they were all "authorized" and would only say i had to bring them in tomorrow. I could write a(nother) book here but in the end i rightly called her a bitch because she had gotten personal saying "i know who you are" and she wasn't going to have anyone go check the shelf price until i came in. she refused to understand clearance items come and go in hours and i only come in every 10 days at most. However, that tag might be there in 10 days with the tomato juice all gone, because the last pack of lamb i found on the shelf had expired january 24th (it's february 5th). I waited around awhile for the butcher to ask if they had more but finally threw it in with some smelly expired seafood. If you are a stupid shopper and don't mind moving unattended carts, boxes and pallets around to reach your items be my guest. I think the fact this site is unclaimed speaks volumes-corporate will hear from me soon along with all the local news outlets that can't seem to get a story that isn't within a 2-mile radius

Gotta hand it to you Jewel. Having a beeping snow plow work from 5-7 am three days after the snow storm hit to remove a pile of snow that same snow plow created. That's the type of considerate neighbor we need.

Friendly, clean, decently stocked. I'm doing my best to not stray from home much and a trip to Southport Jewel-Osco has been one of my only regular outings. They care and are doing fantastic in this challenging environment.

Look at this beautiful floral arrangement by Jenny from the Floral Dept at Jewel Osco on Southport. I was so pleased with Jenny's personality and creation, that I had to tell the store manager. Thanks again Jenny you did a great job.

I've got to give this Jewel credit where credit is due. They've significantly upped their game since my previous post as they've added six or so self-serve kiosks that really help the check-out process. There are also a couple of team members I see regularly in the daytime hours that show a good amount of hustle. It is appreciated.

Brian, a supply person, hovered around us as we shopped with no mask on. Eating produce and removing his mask multiple times. Not a single jewel employee said anything to him, even after asking them to. Finally the person at customer service asked another employee to do so, but by this time Brian has already left. Felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe.
